If you or someone you know is an SDA member or thinking about leaving the SDA, feel free to send them a link to this post.
With SDA continuing to side with bosses and the disappointing result of the last enterprise bargaining agreement negotiations, there may be renewed interest in leaving the SDA, but many may be unsure of how to do it. If they've asked an SDA rep, that rep may make it sound more complicated than it really is. Never fear, leaving the SDA, and stopping those fees from coming out of your pay, is as easy as sending an email.
To leave the SDA, copy and paste the following text into an email (filling in the relevant details):
This email has been sent to both the SDA and Coles payroll.
I, \[FIRSTNAME LASTNAME\], hereby rescind any and all authority for SDA membership fees to be deducted from my pay. This serves as advice under s.324 (2) (b) of the Fair Work Act.
Additionally, I hereby resign from SDA. Do not contact me further about any matter. By resigning I rescind all authority of SDA to arrange deduction of any amount from my wages. I require SDA immediately take all necessary steps to cease any deduction from my wages of any amount to be paid to SDA.
Any unsolicited phone calls I receive on the matter of SDA membership will constitute harassment.
FULL NAME: \[FIRSTNAME LASTNAME\]
EMPLOYEE ID: \[EMPLOYEE ID HERE\]
STORE LOCATION: \[STORE LOCATION HERE\]
STORE NUMBER: \[STORE NUMBER HERE\]
Yours sincerely,
[FIRSTNAME LASTNAME\]
Now send the email to both the SDA and Coles payroll:
Coles store workers can send to their OIC at coles.xxxx.office @ coles.com.au where xxxx is the 4 digit code for your store. Coles Services workers can email their dedicated colesservicespayrollsupport @ coles.com.au
(Remove spaces)
Ensure that both addresses are included in the CC field, so both recipients know that the other has also received it.
If you like, you can print off a copy yourself and drop it to your in-store cash office.
You're done! It's that easy!

hi! I just got hired at Coles as a casual worker and would like to know typically how many hours can I expect? I know it varies from store to store because my friends who work as casuals at other stores get 10-30 hours total each week.
my main concern is that I study full time at uni and I already have a part time job which gives me 12 hours and it’s spread across 2 days. Is there a minimum number of hours per week that I can expect? I just want to plan ahead a little to figure out what my finances will look like if I keep both jobs or quit the part time one.
TIA!

Unsure if it’s just my store but it feels like what is expected of me in my role is impossible. Just last night my coworker and I were alone for a couple hours with rapids, shopping and clicks all happening. It felt like there were too many clicks for one person and the shopping wasn’t being touched as my coworker was picking the rapids.
All this while I was meant to finish within the hour, still had truck checks to do as well outdated layouts. Throughout the day had been so hectic that even my dm left as he’d “had enough”.

Service Manager has been with us for over 12 months now. She told me 12 months ago that she’d increase my hours in march. March came, she didn’t make any changes. Told me to wait for October.
I messaged her start of September asking about an increase and she said she’d let me know.
No contracts arrived until the day before reset happened. We are all doing our new contracts without signing anything. Two who’d been casual are now listed as part time without agreeing. It’s a big mess! My average hours per week for the last 12 months is 32. I don’t think asking for 25 is a big leap.
I’m ready to walk over this 😒
Tell me how this reads. I don’t want it to come across too emotional.

Coles workers need to relax!!! They came over THREE TIMES while I was scanning my 24-pack of water, even after I said I could do it myself. I literally had to prove I’d scanned it. WHY is it called SELF-checkout if you won’t let me do it myself? 💀 Last week I saw two men stealing meat with a FULL duffle bag, but my $9 water gets a full security investigation? (Btw I had a full trolley of groceries and didn’t think it was mandatory to scan my water first? SUE ME

I’ve recently became contracted to at least 13 hours a week. Which I’ve been easily getting working 30 plus hours a week, however actually working my set contracted shifts have been inconsistent with working the same days but different time-slots. Or in different departments does this happen with other people and is it fine that this happens? I’m more than happy with the hours just thought that more so signing the contract meant that I would be working the same shifts at the same times and same departments as per my contract.

$220 minimum spend. Click and collect order. If I add alcohol to this does it count towards the spend limit? Terms mention no tobacco but nothing about alcohol.

I usually buy the "Australian Butter" but just noticed that the Coles Simply version says "Product of Australia" and has no information (online at least) about the origin if it's imported and just packaged here. I remember there used to be one that clearly said it was from India but now it doesn't state anything.

What a fun week it has been.
Multiple outrages have occurred this week. The “new” Chief Technology Officer, disguised as a COO, took over in March, after sacking the previous CTO, who unlike the current leadership team, was customer focussed, and the place is a mess with the offshoring. Systems are collapsing. Hopefully, the CTO and the leadership team will lose their bonus over this
Week’s disasters. He is being paid extra as he took on the CTO role. Surely, and this proves it, he can’t do two roles and he should have a salary drop for the COO role.
Anyway, as customers we are suffering. Competitors are making money out of this. The debacles and incompetence of the leadership team has cost millions in lost revenue just this week alone. The solution is obvious to anyone - stop making changes - what a great way to grow a business. What a brilliant solution. I would like to get paid millions to come up with this solution. We don’t now have to fix the problem is how this is interpreted.
It’s time for the leadership team to be replaced with a competent, customer focussed team, instead of being focussed purely on financials.

How many of these did they buy to have to dump stock? The asian grocery section does seem to wildly fluctuate.

What are they like to cook and eat compared to the standard Kent and Butternut?

Quit yesterday, holy crap. I genuinely haven’t felt this much relief of my shoulders before. I worked in online and was constantly pushed beyond my limits. I have gotten a new casual job at another company and it is right up my alley. Chill and enough work not to be bored. My last day is in 2 weeks and I’m anticipating the day. For anyone who may be thinking about leaving it may have been the best thing I’ve ever done. I just started my senior year and it was taking to much of a toll on my health. Mentally and physically.
Anyway I’m so so glad.

Occasionally it pays to head up there at 6pm.

How can Coles justify a 20% increase in paper bags. Is what they are doing even legal, I thought they were only passing the cost of bags onto the customer, they shouldn't be making a profit out of the bags like they are now.
The way things are going it's tempting to get 100% off those bags.
You brought the smoke, the sauce, and the swagger but now the bottle’s empty.
Gone from the shelf, never from the soul…
What is happening at Coles in Donvale after the recent refurbishment. Looks like big job cuts eg Only 1 employee "serving"(more like suffering) at Deli now with long waits! Fresh Produce Section is a mess?

I work at Coles and someone else I know whom works here called in sick to their shift half an hour beforehand, unknown reason, and the person in charge of the payslips just decided to not pay her. How can they do that? What makes them think that’s the right thing to do?
Edit: I understand that she would need a med cert or use her leave, but it’s the fact that the payroll officer just went straight to “I’m not gonna pay her,” instead of discussing the two options first.

Anyone in QLD has the restructure conversation this afternoon ?
Very sad to see that it seems like F. Whitlock & Sons beans are pulled from Coles (Northside Brisbane).
They were the highlight of my weekends 😪

Hey guys, I recently got a job as a Personal Shopper at Coles and need to choose my work polo. Has anyone worked at Coles and tried the different polo options? Which one would you recommend, and how does the sizing run? Should I stick to my usual size (M) or size up?
Cheers!
