I Worked at Ross For Four Years AMA

I worked at a fairly busy Ross for four years. I mostly kept to the fitting room, stock room, and floor with only sometimes being on the register. You can ask me anything about working there and I’ll answer to the best of my abilities!

What's the most common item return scam?

I’ll be honest I don’t know. I don’t spend a lot of time on the register and when I do it’s a last resort. However on the floor I’m specifically told to watch the purses and luggage.

I've shopped at Ross. What's your best fitting room horror story?

I was about 16 at the time and it was my first prom season working there. We had a line of mostly women running all the way to the front of the store. We are always understaff so I had no backup. I told this one girl she needed to hang up her clothes and could only bring in eight at a time but could switch them out. A group of guys started yelling to just let her in which caused the entire line to go into an uproar (probably because they’d been waiting for hours.) I’m surprised I didn’t burst into tears on the spot and stood my ground.

How do you handle working there so long? I did 3 months and had to get the hell outta there

It was my first ever long term job so that helps. I also had a really good management team and some nice coworkers so that really helped. I left about a year ago (so did a large chunk of people) because of new management.

Are Ross employees in general aware of the work of Delta Work?

No I’ve never heard of her before I looked her up just now. If any of my coworkers did know about her they never brought it up.

What surprises you about your work?

When I first started it was how an area could get it in so little time. Sometimes id had to go walk a manager to the money room 10-15 minutes  and by the time i’d go back my section was a mess.

Of the premium brands whose excess supply made it into Ross, which ones did you think had the best quality? Were there any notable deals or disappointments you saw?
