Like a lot of Brits in the US, I regularly get cravings for the chocolate I grew up with such as Double Decker, Wispa, and Twirls (my favorite). Buying them online always felt harder than it should be, between high free-shipping minimums and sites that made it hard to see what I was actually getting.
I have basically zero retail experience, but I work in tech, so two months ago I set myself a challenge: build an online store from scratch. That meant sorting out importing and logistics, building the website, and designing and producing the packaging, all in eight weeks.
It’s live now at farthingandco.com. Full disclosure: it’s mine, so take my enthusiasm with a pinch of salt. The range is small for now and I’m adding more over the next few months.
I’d really appreciate feedback on the site, pricing and shipping costs. I’m also happy to answer questions about what it’s actually like to set up a small import business.
And which British bars do you miss most, or wish you could find here? That’ll shape what I stock next.
