Local Advice needed Independent Pubs of Brighton (and surrounds) MEGA THREAD

After the announcement of surge pricing in Laine pubs and finding out who actually owns them and just how many of our establishments they own I thought it'd be a nice idea to have a list of pubs in Brighton that are independent. Ones that are free of the B.S. of several layers of 'financial arrrangements' obscuring where our beer tokens are going. Maybe one day we can have a little map in our pockets to refer to when our guard may be down because it's cold and windy outside or we have had a few, we can take a quick look and find an establishment near by that we want to support to prevent them turning into another chain pub without anyone really noticing.

NSFL: Argus Level incident

Looks like the dad of the girl who he says looks like a boy commented on the post and they blackout all the time but wants info about what happened as she doesn't wake up with black eyes or naked.

Is there any truth behind this? I would have thought this would be in the news! Posted yesterday.

And nothing to do with the argus but only flair that fitted.

Hiya! I was feeling very autumnal and craved some roasted pumpkin and sweet potato soup, so I made some at home just now… but then I made too much for 4 people! 🫣

If you know anyone who may need a hot bowl of soup tonight, or you just wanna try my cooking, please let me know. I’m happy to share it! I plan to freeze some of it for another cold night, but also thought some people can point me towards others who may need or want it xx

Soup has pumpkin, sweet potato, onion, garlic, and chicken stock, along with mixed herbs. I also made garlic bread but unlike the soup, the quantity is very limited 😅

I am around Shoreham area but can drive a bit to surrounding places if needed. Thanks xx

Just a few fellers that were around Queens Park one Sunday afternoon. We saw many more but some of them came out too blurry. My lens is very good but it doesn't have a stabiliser.

Local Advice needed Anyone else in the Montpelier / Seven Dials area finding meat left out overnight?

Bit of an unsettling one, but has anyone else around Montpelier or Seven Dials noticed cooked meat (possibly chicken) being left out in front gardens overnight or in the early hours?

This has been happening repeatedly where we are. The meat gets cleared away during the day, but then more appears again overnight. We have no idea who is leaving it or why.

We’ve also noticed that foxes and cats we used to see around the area don’t seem to be about anymore. Obviously, we don’t know if there’s any connection, but the repeated nature of this is starting to worry us.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar or noticed anything unusual? Just trying to work out whether this is happening elsewhere in the neighbourhood too.

Meet Up Finding creatives

Is there anyone in and around Brighton, who’s interested in videography/filmmaking?

Also who would be up for creating small projects. This isn’t anything paid as this is a passion project I’ve just started. Just looking for people who have the same passion, want to share ideas and try and learn off of each other and who are up for just recording to see what we come up with. Proper casual no expectations or crazy experience.

Let me know.

Housing 🏘️ 🏡 Canadian band looking for accommodation in Brighton for our UK tour

Hi everyone! My name is Paris Pick, and I’m a Canadian indie-pop artist coming to the UK this February with my band, Paris Pick & The Pricks for our first-ever UK tour!

We’re looking for anyone who might be able to offer us a place to stay for a night while we’re in Brighton. There are four of us in total, but two of us are a couple and can share a bed, so we’d only need three sleeping spots. Be it a spare room, couch, or foamies on the floor we are easy going.

We’re a respectful, quiet bunch and would be incredibly grateful for any help from the local community. As a thank-you, anyone who hosts us would get a free ticket to our show!

I’m also a graphic designer, so if you’re a local artist or musician, I’d be happy to offer a gig poster design in exchange. I’m also happy to help connect local bands with gig opportunities in Canada where I can. I totally understand that hosting a touring band is a big ask, but if anyone has a spare room, a sofa, or knows someone who might be able to help, please feel free to message me.

Thanks so much Brighton,

We’re really looking forward to visiting your city and meeting some of the local music community!

Trivia/misc Brighton Street Art Map

Post image
43 Upvotes

I've created a map of street art in Brighton. It's still a work in progress, there are a few notable works that are missing (eg, Rick and Morty on Upper Lewes Road etc), and maybe something better already exists, but I thought some of you might appreciate it.

All photos are my own, but please let me know:

  • If you know the artists' names for any so I can credit them
  • If any pieces have been removed/replaced (I'll keep on the map, but change the icon colour)
  • If there are any areas I've not covered yet that have decent street art
  • If any locations are wrong (used a mix of meta data and my memory)

I'll be making a few improvements (eg, using better icons etc - at the moment the houses show buildings (more likely to last) and running icons when the art is on a hoarding (more likely to vanish)), colour coding bits etc.

But anyway, I just thought I'd share anyway so hope you enjoy/find useful.

View the map here

I walk past this at least once a week, and whatever it is, it seems to be growing. No shade at all, this isn't nimby-ism, I'm just curious and tbh, kind of impressed.

Announcement 😯Kambis sold up and opened a new place in town called Zatar. It's banging. Same homemade hummus (best in Brighton)

I don't want to detract from the other person's Bratwurst truck post cus that truck is also banging but this is big news.

Its opposite Belgian Chips next to Jempsons down the Churchill square steps.

I went in tantalised by homemade zatar and chatted about their new shop. I asked about where they get houmous from and the guy said they make it themselves. I said oh good cus till now the only real houmous is far away at Kambis.

Then the dude who was chilling at the end was like "that's me! I just sold it and moved here a month ago".

The fresh falafel wrap for £5.95 is fine business and their oven pastries are gonna slap.

Local Advice needed ‘Cheap’ Dentist Recommendations

Hello everyone,

As the title suggests I am in need of ‘cheap’ but good quality dentist recommendations in and around Brighton. The quotations marks are around the word cheap as I know all dental work is expensive but look for somewhere that will do good quality work at an affordable price if possible. I’ve already come to terms that I will most likely have to go private, I think I need about 4 ish fillings so would be great to get some recommendations!

Thanks in advance :)

Meet Up 28M trying to meet new people in a new city

Hello! I've recently moved to Hove from Oxford, and I don't know anyone here.

I work remotely in the field of robotics, and in my free time I'm looking to meet people through areas of common interests!

I love anything outdoorsy, looking for football groups, racquet sports, run clubs, hiking, travel, etc. I'm also very interested in reading, writing, philosophy, geography and history, chess and board games.

Are there any groups and events that already exist I can join? I don't know how to go about this.

PS. I'm not really an extroverted person, so that makes this so much harder :(
