It's little but I love it, especially since each shelf fits two layers of books so it fits all my books

My "Hidden Door" bookshelf.

Wanted to share my sliding bookshelf that conceals the entrance to my storage room. Still need to paint the bottom box to match the trim, but I'm happy with this so far.

Purchased a bookshelf on Facebook that was wide enough for this super wide door to my storage room. Built a box to conceal the wheels. There's a thin sheet of plywood on the back to prevent swaying or twisting, worked like a charm and it's super stable.

Wheels are 3 inch fixed casters with load limit of 640 lbs per 4 wheels, I have 8 to be totally safe. Not pictured is a bracing bar behind the shelf that holds it against the door frame so it can't tip over. The bar slides along the length of the doorframe when opening so it's constantly in contact with the frame to keep it snug. In the open and closed position, I have a hook that slides into an eyelet on the wall to keep the left side secured as a double precaution.

I'd love to eventually have some form of pulley or actuator system or something that will let me push a button so it opens and closes on its own. Haven't quite wrapped my head around that part yet, maybe a winter project. Would love to somehow incorporate a book that you pull to prompt it to open, but that's a little above my level of know how.

Anyways, still needs a bit of organizing but wanted to share. I don't have many readers in my life and thought this community might appreciate it.

My Boleyn and Tudor Library

This is my little home office nook where I study my historical hobbies.

Most, though not all, of the books are related to the Boleyns, Tudors, or medieval times.

I still have lots of books to buy and add!

It's not much but it keeps me going. And I need the rest of the shelf space for other storage.

Today, I filled my first shelf.

In the beginning of January 2025 I was on a mission. I had questions I needed answered and people I needed to understand to put it as vaguely as possible.

Plus, I was getting bored. I wanted to get a better education on the subjects I found fascinating. I wanted to go to school again, but quickly realized that was out of the question. If I was going to pay for anyone’s education it would be my childrens’.

Instead, I thought, “START READING.” Not JUST reading either, find books on the subjects I love, create a journey of reading material with the help of the internet and AI, actually study the books I’m reading, watch the authors interviews on YouTube and drink it all up as much as I can.

So I did.

Today, I filled my first shelf with the books I’ve read since 2025. 😅

The things I’ve learned along the way has been an absolute blast of a journey though.

Now, in the best way possible, my imagination runs wild with theories and virtues that I could only dream of having 2 years ago.

Filling up this shelf was a huge milestone I’ve been looking forward to so today is a pretty big deal to me. I just wanted to share it with you all. Here’s to another shelf full of books and empty yellow highlighters in 2027.

I took some pictures of my bookshelf to share with you all. Never done that before. I even organized them a little.

I used to dream of my own big library, but this will have to do for now.

Sorry for the messy shelves

We did some work a few years back, and my wife let me hire some guys to make my office.

Anyway, they're a bit messy, and the small books are two deep in some spots, but such as they are.

EDIT 10/13 0712: technically, my home office is messy so it made me feel like the shelves were. The clutter is mostly not shown, other than the D&D minis on the shelves (which do not belong there), and the cardboard box, and some items not properly put away, and the stacks on the table for the current D&D games I am running.

Billy bookshelf

Just moved (moved the shelf from one room to another) and re-organized my bookshelf! Books both mine and husband's, but mostly mine. In addition to books, a number of textbooks, notebooks, and journals as well as outdoor guidebooks and maps. First post after being a long-time lurker and admirer on r/bookshelf

Shelf is a Billy bookcase with glass doors. Originally I used the index cards labels just to help me group books and genres together, but may re-do them nicely and keep them on the shelf.

Does displaying manga like this damage it ?

Trying to conserve shelf space for some series themed decorations and the last volume and was curious if this kind of display would damage the manga.

Dear all,

I wanted to get all my books together along a single wall. I have been trying different manufacturers, (since no bookshelf was "perfect", and I have a wide variety of book formats)

The main next step would be to fill the gaps. I am afraid I will have to build myself something custom, hopefully with real, solid wood. Specially regarding the "bridge" I am planning over the door, joining the bookshelfs at each side.

Another improvement might be unifying the look of the bookshelfs, specially the lighter-colored one at the background. What would you do? Keep it natural, unpainted? Paint with some dark oil for wood to match the others? Other options?

What do you think about the bookshelfs overall?
