I bought this fox skull from a vendor at the renaissance faire last weekend and I’m just really suspicious of its cleanliness.
I’m just not sure what the white stuff on it is, it keeps falling/flaking off the skull. It also…smells stale? Idk how else to describe it. I don’t know much but I know at the very least clean bones shouldn’t have a smell. Any suggestions on what to do?

Visiting Canada from somewhere where shipping antlers to typically costs 5-10x more than the antlers price itself. Any shop recommendations appreciated

Was very excited to find this hare skeleton in the woods at work today! It's pretty much complete, just missing an arm.
I've macerated/degreased (sheep) skulls but never been lucky enough to find a whole specimen before. Is there a way I can prep this without it coming into a hundred tiny pieces, or am I going to have to prepare for my first articulation? It doesn't have any soft bits left, just a little skin and hairy feet.

Just curious as to what animal this came from.

Purchased from a local vendor who had a collection of animal bones. I'd like to whiten them if possible, but I'm a newb. Does this need further degreasing before whitening?

I've been working on degreasing a few skulls and two of the deer caps ended up with staining on the antlers.
Is there something I can do to clean them without wrecking things?
Would soaking them in ammonia water instead of dish soap water clear it up?

I didn’t want to touch it because I saw a TikTok that said marine bones are more likely to carry disease that can spread to humans 😭

Found. You’re welcome to come pick it up.
It’s located in the Bronx
Pick up needs to happen within the next three days

Hey, first post here.
So basically I'm working on a project using goat spine columns for art.
(ethically sourced and all that.)
I accidentally left the container out when a lawn service came. I was away for a while so the chlorophyll in the grass bleed into the water I had holding it. I usually keep the containers closed but didn't have a spare as I had other stuff macerating.
They've already taken a pretty decent scrubbing and I had them in peroxide for a fair period of time.
I know you can leave em for a long time but I'm less concerned about the overall whiteness and more of if you guys know any way I can get this out quicker. My mistake.
I wager more peroxide could do the trick but I try to ration it seeing as it's expensive.
Any thoughts?

I have been compiling research off and on, for a few years. Intermittently, sporadically, when the opportunity arises. Most especially this year. I have been preparing for this project to come my way for a long while. I've done plenty of burials, I've above ground decomp-ed, I've been lucky enough to stumble upon bones and tidy them up.
I took on my first water maceration three days ago. You guys, of all people, know just how much conflicting information there is on the do's and dont's.
I sealed the lid. I regret sealing the lid. I fear opening it. I fear it exploding whether I do or don't.
Where does one acquire a hazmat suit and herbs strong enough to plug my nose? (I am not joking, I am so scared of the biohazard bomb I may have created, so much scarier than a biohazard in a bucket)
I got greedy, I got lazy, I spent 6, yes, 6, hours skinning, and de-fleshing the pelt and getting the tail ready for an above ground decomp and the feet ready to be stored in alcohol to preserve later. I got lazy. I didn't want to deflesh the carcass. I didn't want the guilt of discarding parts I hadn't figured out how to use. I told myself that whatever macerated would be useful to the dirt I dump it to. There is an entire rat carcass in a sealed mason jar and I am so scared.
Guys, I did not want to be that newb here on this subreddit. I spent so much time preparing and gathering information and comparing sources, I took notes. I drew diagrams. I have been waiting for this day for YEARS. And yet, I stuck an entire carcass in a sealed mason jar because some people some times say it's ok to seal the lid and because it was easier. And now, I am here, begging for your mercy.
edit: I haven’t been entirely truthful with everybody. The jar has undergone several, several temperature changes in the last three days. I’m almost certain my fate is “sealed“

Listen I know it might sound crazy but I love my baby girl with all my heart. Shes a senior now (13 in human, 68 in cat) and has multiple health conditions. Shes happy and healthy but I know there will come a time she has to go. I always wanted to keep her teeth. Which i was going to ask when she was cremated. But now im wondering can I keep her bones too? Is there someone or somewhere specific to call or go? Has anyone ever done this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
Not sure if im allowed to post her so ill add her to the comments for those wanting to see her 💕

Hello! I would love to get this tattoo, but the description is not pleasant, so please don’t read if you’re soft-hearted or have a weak stomach.
A couple years ago I saw on an instagram gore page an image of a raccoon with a couple of its legs rotted to the bone, and its face half melted off. Where its legs were melted it was walking on the bones. Its body was perpendicular to the camera, but his head was turned facing. There was a white, feral glint in his eyes, as if instinct alone is what kept it alive. Truly an image I’ll never forget.
Thanks for any insights you may have!

hello! i’ve had a deer skull i got from an antique skull for a couple years now. my parents house had a pretty bad house spider infestation and i ended up soaking it in water before i bring it down to my new apartment. there wascobwebs and spider skins in it. it didn’t smell before but after soaking it in water for about a week it smells like death. its gotten a bit better since its dried up but definitely needs something done to fix the smell. should i degrease it with dish soap? if so, for how long? thank you!! 🖤
