Hey everyone!
I’m hoping to find someone with a background in biology, ecology, evolutionary science, or a related field who enjoys speculative evolution and might be interested in helping me with a personal creative project.
For some context, I’m building a science-fiction universe called Project: Damocles, which I’m currently working on turning into a comic series.
Something I’ve always wanted to achieve with this universe is a certain level of scientific credibility. I don’t expect everything to be possible according to our current understanding of science, especially considering the setting takes place far in the future and involves extraterrestrial life. However, I do want the things I create to follow understandable principles instead of relying entirely on artistic freedom.
That brings me to the reason I’m posting here.
I’ve been developing various alien species, creatures, and environments, and while researching their biology myself has been incredibly interesting, I’ve also realized just how much there is that I simply don’t know.
I’d love to exchange ideas with someone who understands how living organisms function and evolve, particularly when it comes to things like anatomy, biomechanics, environmental adaptations, food chains, and the relationships between organisms.
I’m especially interested in exploring how life might develop under conditions different from those on Earth. Different gravity, atmospheric composition, climate, and evolutionary pressures could potentially produce some fascinating organisms. Finding out which ideas are plausible, which need adjustments, and which would be outright impossible is exactly the kind of feedback I’m hoping for.
I already have several designs and concepts that could serve as starting points, so this wouldn’t involve creating an entire biological world from scratch.
What I’m looking for isn’t someone to do the work for me. I’d mainly appreciate having someone to discuss ideas with, challenge my assumptions, point out mistakes, and occasionally help me find more scientifically reasonable solutions.
A little transparency regarding the project: this is an independent passion project without a budget for consultants, so unfortunately I can’t offer financial compensation. I’m aware that scientific expertise is valuable, and I completely understand if that makes the opportunity unappealing.
There also wouldn’t be any deadlines, assigned tasks, or obligation to participate regularly. I’m simply hoping to connect with someone who enjoys this kind of subject and wouldn’t mind the occasional discussion.
Naturally, I’d be happy to acknowledge any meaningful contributions in the comic’s credits and other relevant material as a scientific or biological advisor, if that’s something you’d like.
If this sounds interesting, you’re welcome to leave a comment or send me a message. I’d gladly share some existing creature designs, information about their environments, and a little more about the universe itself.
And even if you aren’t personally interested in getting involved, recommendations for useful resources or communities focused on speculative evolution would be very welcome!
Thanks for reading, and I hope this is an appropriate place to ask. :)
