Scenes from the Bay no kings day is a good reminder that change takes more than holding a sign. come volunteer with us this saturday and help tackle illegal dumping! ✊ last week, we cleared 8,000 lbs while this man living in the encampment shared a burrito with his big dog. ❤️

at urban compassion project, we’re working to address illegal dumping, environmental neglect, and the needs of our homeless neighbors holistically, because all of these things are connected. people deserve clean, safe neighborhoods, access to basic necessities, and a community that actually shows up for them.
since january 2025, alongside 5,000 volunteers, we’ve cleared more than 1.7 million pounds of illegal dumping across oakland, berkeley, and the surrounding bay area. we bring volunteers together to tackle areas that have been neglected for years, from waterways and public spaces to encampments where people are constantly being dumped on and then blamed for the conditions around them. we work with the people living there, building relationships and making sure our cleanups support the community.
we also do weekly distributions of food, water, clothing, hygiene supplies, pet food, and other essentials to people living in encampments. we’ve supported thousands of people this year through those distributions. showing up consistently helps us understand what people need and build the trust that makes longer-term support possible.
that same approach led us to open compassion threads with our partners, a free clothing store and community space in downtown oakland. we’re getting clothing into the hands of people who need it, keeping usable items out of landfills, and bringing life into an otherwise underused storefront. nothing is for sale, ever.
between august 8 and september 16, compassion threads welcomed 365 guests, distributed 2,012 clothing items, and diverted 1,563 pounds from landfills. among the people we surveyed, 69% reported food insecurity, 65% reported housing insecurity, and 56% weren’t living in a home they owned or rented. among those who reported their income, half earned less than $15,000 a year and 90% earned less than $50,000. these numbers show how much need exists, including among people whose struggles aren’t always visible.
alongside this immediate work, we’re pushing for systemic change: better access to waste disposal, greater public works capacity, accountability for illegal dumping, and investment in neighborhoods that have been repeatedly overlooked. we’re also working toward more beautification and urban farming projects to help keep cleared spaces cared for and discourage dumping from returning.
we do this with a small team, volunteers, community partners, and grassroots donations, without city funding. our goal is to connect immediate relief with long-term prevention, so the work we do each week helps build healthier neighborhoods and a community with the capacity to keep showing up for one another.

Pets & Animal Services Please help Feta 🐶❤️

I already made a post about this but decided to make a video to somewhat show his personality. Feta is an incredible dog and I love him very much.
Feta is a loving, cuddly, goofy, curious, and happy ~15-month, pitbull mix weighing 60 pounds. He greets you in the morning with full body wiggles that are impossible to not be delighted by.
He’s potty-trained, walks well on leash (checks in often), has good recall off leash, and knows basic commands (sit, stay, paw, leave it). Very food motivated, eager to learn new training.
He’s happiest being with his people, playing with another dog, or quietly resting and chewing on a sturdy toy. Feta has done well in our home matching the play style of our older, dominant female pity and also did well in his foster home with another older, dominant female pitbull.
We’re heartbroken to have to re-home him but our older dog is too dominant to have another dog in our home.
- Can be cautious of strangers. He needs a little time to warm up to new people. Has prey drive with cats. Hasn’t been around young children. Absolutely loves to cuddle.
- Comes with a bed, leash, collar, pinch collar, electric collar for training, toys.
If you or anybody you know wants to find out more about him, take a look at our AdoptAPet page or reach out to me through direct messages :)

Work & Housing California test scores reveal modest growth; education experts say it’s not enough
In the Bay Area, schools saw a smaller improvement, but higher scores than the state’s average. San Jose Unified saw slight gains in English, with a 0.72 percentage point increase to 50.5% of students meeting or exceeding grade-level expectations and a 0.3 percentage point jump in math to 42.2% of students meeting or exceeding grade-level expectations.

Events, Activities & Sports With Eli’s, bottom of the hill, & thee park side closing where are you all going for shows?
Feeling sad to lose these places and wondering if maybe I don’t have my finger on the pulse anymore? I used to go to Oakland secret as well and looks like they are on hiatus too. What venues are good for shows like this now?

Events, Activities & Sports R&B and Ribs - Set times for T-Pain and Ari Lennox?
Does anyone know what time T-Pain and Ari Lennox perform this Sat 10/17 at R&B and Ribs at GG Park?
If not, does anyone know when the event is expected to end? Maybe I can work backwards from there lol.
I know it starts at 1 PM and there are at least 3 openers, but not sure how long each set will be.
I have another important event beforehand, so I’m trying to figure out when to arrive without missing T-Pain. Catching Ari too would be a bonus!
Thank youuu!!!! 🙏🏼

Events, Activities & Sports Halloween Weekend
Hey bay area, I was wondering what recommendations for 18+ club events or anything going on? My friend and I want to go out for Halloween but they are only 20, her birthday is in a few months. We both got the night off and want to try and have some fun.
I already looked at City Nights/Club X in SF and Ace of Spades in Sac. Was there any other events happening like even a block party?

Work & Housing Nearly 92% of San Francisco homes sold above asking last month
A record-breaking 91.6% of San Francisco homes sold above their asking price last month, driven by low inventory and intense competition in the luxury market. Single-family home prices rose 17% year-over-year to a median of $2.05 million, while the condo market also showed a modest recovery and faster turnover, according to Compass chief economist Mike Simonsen.
