How has this happened twice

He carries him in his pocket for good luck, there was a segment about it before the game

Good Lord, Jackson Chourio just walked to the outfield with his pocket mantis. He said he had "made friends" with the little dude.
Too busy being cool as hell, evidently.

u/rimmyrim Atlanta Braves 39m ago
Praying mantis is beside himself. Driving around downtown LA begging (thru texts) Chourio’s family for address to Jackson’s shoulder.

I thought it was crickets for good luck. Or is that just for going to the Matchmaker.

Because mantis’ are huge fans of baseball, obviously.
22
u/sumdude51 1h ago
This is true. Before they were into baseball they were just "Mantis". After a while during stretches of tight games, the camera would cut to them "preying" that's how they got their name. Crazy

I expected to read ahain how the undertaker threw someone 30 feet through the announcers table in 1991 or something (I forgot the exact story)

They really are. I have a pregnant female Carolina Mantis on my porch on a wagon right by my window. I turned the volume up for her. And asked her if that was good, she raised her arm like Thanks!

Not only that but he signaled how many outs to the Mantis. One of my favorite baseball clips of all time.

What are the rules on this? To me it seems like the nationals got away with having an extra player on defense. Maybe bugs don't count but when I watched the AirBud movies, Buddy always counted as a player.
Man talk about one of the greatest all around athletes ever. Dominated in baseball, football, soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Bo Jackson got nothing on Buddy. Bo knows who the better athlete really is
TLDR: a bunch of nonsense but this brewers dodgers game is getting intense. Omg back to back as I'm typing this

Haha this conversation reminded me of that time a pigeon joined the Raiders in kick coverage.
Edit: Pigeon here's the video of him lining up, waiting for the kick, and flying with the coverage as they run down the field. Haha the pigeon even curls into the middle of the field as with the defense when the returner gets tackled

We got a whole species. I find em around my house all the time, they're pretty chill with being handled too.
6
u/MossyPlantyWitchy Cincinnati Reds 58m ago
Our native species is the Carolina Mantis. I have a pregnant female on my porch right now. She's from one of the Oothecas left last year 🥰 They are pretty similar species. I've had well fed females get up to 4". They are my favorite garden friends.

In many cultures, a praying mantis landing on you is considered a sign of good luck, peace, and spiritual awakening. It's often interpreted as a reminder to be patient, mindful, and receptive to positive changes ahead.

I always joke about how baseball is so mind numbingly boring the most exciting things that happen on the field are usually something that isn't baseball.
