Since the last post about this got deleted because it contained a X screenshot, hopefully this one actually stays for comment.

Sports betting and political ads mixed in make the whole non game watching experience terrible.

In our household we've taught the kids to loudly boo political and gambling ads.

Just realized how rough the Super Bowl viewer experience will likely be this season.

don’t forget the dehumanizing political ads being blasted nonstop in swing states. idk what i’d do if i had kids watching these games but the commercials are insanely inappropriate. “join ice” is a hell of a message for developing minds.

I’m not in a swing state but I’m right on the border with one so I get a lot of their commercials. I saw one the other day that literally said word for word “are you tired of illegal immigrants stealing your healthcare?”

Like what the fuck does that even mean? How could someone steal another person’s healthcare? Like picking up their prescription from the pharmacy?

u/Charming_Squirrel_13 8h ago

yup, seen that one. they hired veterans to make it look like their benefits are being given away to give to undocumented people. just laying on the hate

u/Rock_Strongo Seattle Mariners 7h ago

There's only so much healthcare to go around. Once all the illegals use it there will be none left for the rest of us :(

If only there was an influx of new people that we could support and educate to work in healthcare. Idk where we would find such a group though.

Ah ok. I had walked away right before it came on so I just heard it from the other room. I didn’t see the part with the veterans. I figured it was just them stringing together a bunch of trigger words.

It doesn’t mean anything, but the people it’s targeting are too brainwashed to realize because it includes all of the keywords that trigger their rage

Yeah in texas the ads are more inappropriate than the shit they are "protecting" kids from

20

u/Charming_Squirrel_13 10h ago

the ad attacking talarico for protecting trans kids has to be the bottom. not even addressing issues anymore, just “the dems will make your kids trans and jail you if you try to stop them”

I lose my shit with the one where the person declares, “teens are being convinced they need gender reassignment and getting sex change surgeries without their parents’ consent. I know, because I’m one of them.”

Getting the ads for Texas when I am in a completely different state is so annoying too.

u/azdb91 Arizona Diamondbacks 10h ago

The Paxton and Abbot ads here in Texas are sending us over. Completely insufferable

The Ossoff/Bottoms vs Collins/Jackson ads are crazy here in GA.

Imagine being me, an Ohioan, getting Ohio and Texas slop on every major broadcast.

don’t forget the dehumanizing political ads being blasted nonstop in swing states.

Not even a swing state and while brushing my teeth last night, I got blasted with "did you know my opponent wants to use tax payer dollars to turn us all trans?!?!"

Somehow Liberty Mutual ends up with one of the better ads in the midst of the ad chaos. Weird world we live in.

u/Charming_Squirrel_13 10h ago

hats off to liberty mutual, they have one of the better ads this postseason, somehow.

Idk, that one feels like when a popular show has a bit character in early seasons that gets popular enough to get full plot lines in later seasons.

Don’t forget all the gambling ads. They don’t care about kids anymore. They care about adults that act like kids.

Can't believe I'm saying it but I miss Francisco Lindor Discolsure Day ad compared to this

2

u/AJTP89 New York Yankees 10h ago

I really hate how it’s the same four ads every break now. I swear there used to be a lot more variety. And who the hell wants their young kids watching these things, now we have to police the damn baseball broadcast.

4

u/pepperonicatmeow San Diego Padres 10h ago

Watching these games as a woman has reminded me how these broadcasting/advertising companies still think only men watch -_-

4

u/anotherlebowski 10h ago

I saw another thread where people were complaining about this and then the clearly non-parent redditors were blaming parents like "Well why don't you control what your kids watch!?  Why do I have to change for your kids!?"

It's like uh, you want me to control what commercials air during a baseball game?

u/fly_guy1 Cincinnati Reds 10h ago

I'm just mad they did Other Mommy and not Other Mother.

Megan Fox ad talking about ED

I had to look this one up cuz I haven't seen it and there's a shot of the camera going up her ass before pivoting to her face. That's shit we wouldn't even make in the '90s.

u/Heathcliff_Slocumb Pittsburgh Pirates 7h ago

That ad is awesome. Why are people hating on it?

So many "Back in my day" guys acting like sex sells is a recently developed concept

2

u/FPG_Matthew Washington Nationals 10h ago

I’m mid 20s. Doesn’t particularly bother me one bit. But I totally understand parents’ pov too

Being a mature adult and explaining things to children is far more difficult than infantilizing them and trying to protect them from stuff they'll see without your guidance

My son is 2, so he isn’t impacted by this now, but we’re having a daughter next year and I’m just dreading the world we’ll be in ten years from now when I’m trying to share my passions with my kids and I need to navigate around bullshit like this.

I know “sex sells” has been an advertising mantra since forever, but this is getting a little out of hand. I shouldn’t have to explain that to my daughter when she’s 5. There used to be standards in what can be aired at what time of day for a reason.

Also, completely agree with people concerned about gambling ads generally as well. I’m already hearing my son’s adorable voice in my head asking “Dada what’s Polymarket?”. The whole sports media industry has taken a massive step back in quality just to cash in (unsurprisingly) and it’s gross.

Eh...postseason baseball has pretty much always been in October (it has been my entire life, anyway) meaning there have always been horror movie ads & political ads during the games. I'm not a fan of the unnecessarily sexy ads, but there have always been those as well (regular season, postseason, Super Bowl, any given Tuesday).

But I have muted pretty much every ad since the 90s. It's baffling to me that people actually waste their time fixated on them.

My teen just buries her face in her phone or book when ads come on anyway (not sure how many kids actually read books these days, but we've always pushed it), as do I if I'm being honest. Back in 2016 when the Cubs went to the WS, she & my stepkids (all in the 6-9yo range at the time) didn't really care about the ads unless they were about children's stuff (toys)...anything else, & their attention was elsewhere (each other, dinner, or whatever they were playing with). Hell, they didn't even really focus on the games unless I locked in on them.

This is really only an issue for people that parent by proxy using TVs.

ah yes, 'fuck censorship' but blame a tame horror movie ad for ruining children alongside a gambling ad and something a majority of redditors suffer from, ED.

god bless fake outrage for karma
