Since the last post about this got deleted because it contained a X screenshot, hopefully this one actually stays for comment.

It’s honestly one of the grossest gambling ads so far and I hope it’s the one that tips the scale on these endless gambling ads. These “prediction markets” are glorified online bookies and need to be shut down. Players partnering with these organizations are deplorable as well.

I'd go as far to say they're worse. The "prediction markets" are allowed to skirt gambling laws because well, "they're not gambling 😉😉". And everyone just seems to be fine with it. At least the sports books are regulated and need to abide by the gambling laws within the states they operate. The prediction markets are able to exist even in states that online sports gambling/casinos are illegal, because again.. totally not gambling. You're buying into a commodity futures market that the result of your prediction is based on the outcome of an event. It's just that simple!

As a society we've started letting too much "there's no rule saying a dog can't play basketball" happen.

Listen, there's no rule saying a dog can't bet on Sydney Sweeney nudity in prediction market ads

the Nuggets tried to do an Air Bud style halftime show once. Dog landed funny and broke it's neck, crowd traumatized, etc...

So...yeah

"everyone" isn't fine with it--our glorious politicians are fine with it because they dump insane amounts of lobbying money into congress.

There was an article in the Wall Street Journal recently about prediction markets allowing wagers on court cases and how that could influence juries and verdicts. It was something like $100,000 in wagers on the outcome of the Lindsay Clancy trial. It's disgusting how out of control it's been allowed to get.

You’re right on all points. There was a recent court ruling though that rejected their argument that it was different than sports books which means it should be able to be regulated soon. It’s wild but out here in Nevada online sports books are illegal and while some casinos have online betting, you have to physically go to the casino itself and provide identification before you’re allowed to use them. While that isn’t much, it is a small barrier to making bets that companies like Kelshi don’t have to abide by.

I'm a heavy (and profitable sports gambler). State Sportsbook regulation is a joke and usually means nothing more than they are taxed. The books will prey on people that lose and limit those who win to extremely small bets. It turns it into a glorified carnival game where your potential losses are infinite but your potential gains are heavily limited.

Betting (or "prediction") markets at least even it up. Yes it's still gambling (by a different name) but it's a fair playing field. Despite the questionable ad, Novig is probably the best one out there. They require users to be 21 (instead of 18) and as the ad says, only sports. No degenerate bets like the price of bitcoin every 15 minutes
