I said it in the game thread and I’ve seen it so much these two games, that’s new turf is like a bounce house. Saw it here with Jram and monday night with Kwan.
Lot of talk about the JRam error, justifiably, but Hedges not challenged the fully in the zone ball 3 to Caminero that would have converted an eventual walk to a strikeout and prevented that entire inning really stings too
Yeah, as a longtime Cleveland sports fan, I fully expected that to hurt us after the walk. Given our history, it was a very fitting way to lose a game (sadly).
Three unearned runs after that Jose Ramirez error in the fourth is a tough way to lose a playoff game, and Peralta made it hold up with six scoreless innings.
Jose could do that 9 million times and I would still love him. Heading back to Cleveland with Gav on the bump and home field in a best of 5. I’ll take that any day against a team as complete as Tampa
Honestly, people can mock you and your fanbase all they want, but they have to take out a second mortgage to go to a postseason game so joke is on them. (I say this as a snake fan. We rarely sell out, but tickets are cheap, parking is free, and I was able to go to the DS, CS, and WS in 2023)
Yep I said fuck it and put it all on a credit card. Was it a smart financial move? I don't care money is fake and baseball is forever. But I don't blame people smarter than me for not doing that
They'll be in there again Game 3 vs. the righty. Chandler does fine vs. lefties and that speed provides so much pressure but Vilade also absolutely smokes lefties, so I get why that decision is tough.
I get it. Simpson and DeLuca are so freaking fast and like you said just a lot of pressure on the defense. Just feel like Simpson adds another level when he's in the lineup.
Fortes over Hicks though. Seems like Ras usually has Hicks and he's been lights out, so curious what that was about.
Baker is eventually going to blow one of these games, but man for now it's kinda unbelievable to have a pitcher come in and just have total confidence in him to lock down the 9th.
Just make sure he doesn’t start participating in a gambling ring and throwing games, and then try to pretend it was actually just betting on cock fights
Sure, JRam made a bad mistake, but scoring only one run as a team is pretty bad too. Seems unfair by the media to just target the guy when it was a team loss overall. This is going to be a good series either way.
It'll go to 4, because an earth shattering cataclysmic event will rupture the earth directly underneath Tropicana on Thursday and they're going to take the survivors from both teams and make one new team, The Survivors, who will play against the NLCS champ.
Let's just combine without the apocalypse, please. Our combined payroll is way less than the Dodgers and only about $30MM more than Milwaukee, so it's only fair.
I do hate the press when it comes to bad games in any sport… straight up just asking them how it feels to lose the game for their team… like they wouldn’t ask for a fking do over 100 times out of 100.
People making fun of the attendance are losers. Such a dumbass thing to focus on. Who gives a shit if it’s not completely full?? Doesn’t make them any less of a serious team.
Also, I gotta work tomorrow and was already dragging ass today from getting home at 12:30 after last night’s game. I can’t do that shit two days in a row for an ALCS game 2.
As a Guardians fan I fully agree with you. It's like judging the quality of a film by its box office numbers. This has been a great matchup so far and to be swayed by crowd size is depriving one's self of appreciating good baseball.
Cleveland shouldn't hang their heads. Better to head home tied 1-1 than being down 0-2. Hopefully Jose learns from his error and moves on rather than hitting himself
a lot of us rays fans are lightning fans so CLE should think of stealing a game on the road as a huge win and now it's a 5 game series with CLE having home field advantage
Obviously the split is nice, but I think any guards fan will tell you we were thinking this would be the game we'd win with our ace on the mound. Game one was a shocker for us.
This one stung, losing it on an error (and a pitch Hedgie should have challenged) but so it goes. Bad bounce. Josey makes that play 99/100 times.
Nothing but respect for the Rays organization though. I think this will be a really close series. I could see it going seven, easily.
Looking back this morning, yesterday was a very frustrating loss that really can be pinpointed to a few mental mistakes by three players. Austin hedges not challenging what should have been a strike three on junior, rocchio trying to get the out at first instead of holding and applying the tag to Mesa or at least holding him at second, and the shocking error and lack of base coverage by Jose. It all started with Hedges not challenging the pitch and lead to a rough inning.
Still a lot of positive heading back to Cleveland. We are tied in the series, and are showing we can limit their bats and we can still get base runners on even on a day we aren't striking the ball as well. Rocchio needs to start stepping up. He's looked downright nervous behind the plate. Either way this is still looking like a great series with two fairly matched teams. Looking forward to some nice outdoor fall baseball, as the Lord intended
As a small market team guy it makes me sad that a great team with a great run over multiple years like the rays end up with half the stadium being away fans for an ALCS game. Hopefully the stadium move gets the rays more fan attendance.
Milwaukee might be the smallest market but I'll be damned if we aren't passionate about our brewers, even when they sucked.
You rays fans that show out to love your team have my respect. Here's to hoping for our small market WS matchup!
I really don't know how you could see the crowd tonight compared to the typical ones at the Trop when the Yankees/Sox play and think it was half Cleveland fans.
As a lifelong Tigers guy, the more I learn about both the Rays and Brewers, the more I love you both. I really want to see a Rays v Brewers WS. Wish all the best to you guys.
Ball hit the seam between the sand and the grass. That all there is to it. Happens every so often and the bounce is impossible to predict or read or react to in time. Most understandable error ever.
Absolutely should have made that play. Unfortunately, it seems he briefly forgot about the field conditions. The announcers have focused on "the rings," but the weirdest aspect of that ballpark is the way the ball interacts with the turf.
I'm biased of course, but Ramirez makes that play in any other ballpark. The Trop claimed another victim.
