These new houses give me the shits. They're ugly little prisons with no yard and absolutely no noise/weather insulation. They are depressing af to live in, don't ask me how I know. Everywhere I go all I see are skinny misery boxes going up and nice houses with trees, gardens, character being knocked down - however plenty of people seem happy to live in them? Maybe it is a me problem.. Every older person I talk to says the same though, they hate them as well. However almost all rental properties around are these dog boxes - larger houses are becoming less common. Not even going to mention buying. It seems the only options are to move 3 hours out of a city but country towns are pricing people out too??
I saw someone in one of the Australian subs talking about the bot farms being down and saying it doesn't matter because there are still plenty of real people who just want to annoy strangers online.
And I thought - if you're going to annoy someone, why not use your powers for good?
So figured I'd share one of my annoyances: Microsoft pretending that US date formats are the best format and that everyone wants them, and gaslighting anyone who points out the error for tasks.
See this:
Region settings show Australia and that September 1, 2027 should display as 1/09/2027
This is my date format, and it is correct in this display. It displays for Calendars and Email! Hurray. It doesn't display for tasks.
Screenshot of the tasks settings which shows 12/21/2026 a date that cannot exist in an Australian date format, and a May date that appears as if it was December.
So my 12th of May date now appears like it's for December, and there's a non existent 12/21/2026.
It affects Hotmail emails.
It affects 365 emails.
It affects Outlook on the web.
It affects Outlook Classic on Windows.
It affects Outlook new on Windows.
In other words, every Microsoft account I've tested in a windows environment, including tenants with paid Microsoft support.
And yet Microsoft support would prefer to gaslight you about the issue, lying to you on the phone, spending hours trying to troubleshoot, rather than actually raise a bug. They very clearly want you to go away and for them not to do their job. (Incidentally, if they said, yes seppo dates are the best and this is intentional, and we will never fix it, I would go away! Or this is a known issue, and here's the bug report: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/support/known-issues/fixes-or-workarounds-for-recent-issues-in-classic-outlook-for-windows . I would also go away.)
If you change your language from Aussie to UK English, it works perfectly fine (and note, the Brits used to complain about the task dates being broken too), but breaks when you set it back to Australian English, so Microsoft CAN fix it, already have the code to fix it, they just don't want to.
I don't know what other countries have it broken too, but clearly the seppos have it working just fine for themselves.
So if you want someone to annoy, why not go annoy Microsoft? The multi-trillion-dollar company can afford to fix it.
28 year old construction worker, 2 young kids, spouse is a SAHM, living on the outskirts of Sydney, no other family nearby. We rent a home and it feels to me like we're stuck on a hamster wheel of renting with no realistic chance of owning a home unless our situation changes. Recently been having a think about heading west (or north-west), idea of maybe getting a FIFO/DIDO style job and earning good money which might finally allow us to buy our own place
You know how in high school, especially during recess and lunch, there are usually certain areas where different friend groups hang out? The oval was one of those places where a lot of the Year 12s would gather.
I was wondering if anyone else ever avoided sitting there during Year 12.
Personally, I avoided it quite a lot. I wasn’t really part of the social crowd and some of the people who usually hung out there had bullied me or made fun of personal things about me. I would usually only go to the oval if my friends were there.
Otherwise, I was perfectly fine sitting somewhere else by myself or having some quiet time.
Eventually, some of my friends even got used to not sitting at the oval during lunch because I preferred staying elsewhere. There were also times when teachers noticed that I was usually alone and encouraged me to join everyone at the oval, but I didn’t really feel comfortable doing that.
Looking back, sometimes I felt bad about myself for being so isolated, but other times I genuinely enjoyed having some solitude.
So I’m curious, did anyone else distance themselves from the Year 12 oval or avoid those big social areas during high school? Or were you someone who actually preferred sitting somewhere quieter?
It's a small pill for liver health, made in Australia. It used to be yellow, but now it has a brown coating that goes everywhere the second it gets wet, e.g. if your dog spits it out, and you end up with this gross brown stuff on your hands, their fur, the floor etc. Just wondering if anyone else has had that happen or if its just me because I used the contact form on their website to ask about it and they've said I'm the only person to complain.
Hi all, I moved out of home when I was 15 and my mother withheld my ID documents (passport and birth certificate). I’ve been surviving with a photo of my birth certificate, but I impulsively booked a holiday to Europe in 3.5 months, and now need a physical birth certificate to get a new passport, and have two questions because I’m starting to freak out.
How long will a priority birth certificate take to be fully delivered?
How long will it take for the passport to arrive?
Thanks so much, any input/experiences are appreciated!
