From the Newcastle Herald website and not paywalled...
An open letter to fans of the Newcastle Jets, from Newcastle Herald editor Lisa Allan and managing editor of sport, Chris Dutton.
Dear Jets fans of Newcastle and the Hunter,
We are writing to let you know that the Newcastle Herald's coverage of the Jets may look a little different in the coming weeks.
We were informed on Friday that the Jets were enforcing a ban on the Herald's long-time chief soccer reporter, James Gardiner, preventing his access to club-sanctioned media briefings.
The Jets said in August they did not want Gardiner to attend Jets media opportunities, following the publication of stories by him and other Herald journalists exposing late payments to several Newcastle businesses, organisations and individuals earlier this year.
The Herald values independent journalism. We report without fear or favour. While the Jets remain a partner of our organisation, we will not allow anyone, partner or otherwise, to dictate what we cover and how we cover it.
As long-time Herald readers know, Gardiner has reported on the A-League since the inaugural season in 2005-06, and has written thousands of stories on Jets teams during his award-winning career in journalism.
We have told the Newcastle Jets that a ban on one Herald reporter is a ban on the Herald.
While the Jets' decision is disappointing, especially coming on the eve of the A-League Men's and Women's seasons, and will pose challenges for how we do our work, the Herald will continue our award-winning coverage of Newcastle's team.
Our top priority has always been, and will always be, keeping our audience and our community informed, and that will continue during this A-League season.
To our loyal readers and advertising partners, thank you for your continuing support of the Newcastle Herald's proudly local and proudly independent journalism.
Lisa Allan, editor, and Chris Dutton, managing editor of sport

Hey folks,
I’m part of a Newcastle-based charity called Reflex Response Services. We provide counselling and supports for people in the aftermath of traumatic events.
Following the Wallsend crash, we’re providing free counselling for people who have been affected. That includes people who were there who witnessed what happened, know someone involved, or who have been struggling in the aftermath of the event.
You don’t have to wait until things get really bad to reach out. Getting the right support early can make a real difference in how people deal long term.
We’ve also put together a guide for navigating the aftermath of a difficult event that includes how to look after yourself, and support others.
Information about counselling and resources can be found at http://reflex.org.au/wallsend-incident
If you know someone who would benefit from knowing about what’s available for them, please share it. Some posts that are a bit easier to digest can be found on Instagram (@reflexcharity) and facebook (@reflexcharity)
We need your help in spreading the word about the help that’s available, and finding local businesses and individuals to sponsor sessions. If you can post about it to your socials, tell your communities, forward it in your workplaces, we can make sure that everyone can get the help that they need.

Hi All,
I work in this space and wanted to share the report we finally got to drop!
This is council's engagement report for upzoning the areas around the Adamstown, Hamilton, Kotara and Interchange stations.
Newcastle received a grant for improvements related to implementing NSW's new mandated TOD rules, but requires Council to consult along the way. Here's the feedback received:
Website: Have Your Say - TOD
Detailed report: TOD Detailed Consultation Report
Summary report: TOD Engagement Summary Report
Next steps? Council will continue reviewing this feedback, develop site-specific draft plans and put these out for consultation.

Has anyone got one I can buy? From what I can understand they were only around a short period of time, but I would love to get my hands on one. I honestly feel a bit shafted that despite living here for 16 years I never had a chance to lay eyes upon such an impressive member of Newcastle history. My partner grew up around Newy, I’ve lived just south of there the entire time I’ve been here, and I’m longing to thrust this into his life

Hey all, I’ve been keeping a close eye on the Newcastle/Lake Mac market lately and I’m keen to hear what people are actually seeing on the ground, rather than just what the headlines say.
Seems like REA are trying their best to inflate a declining market and Vendors holding on to the hope someone will offer a 2025 price for their place.

You reckon this is the worst train crossing in the country?
It has to be top 5 at least, fuck me dead, sit at the red light for 5 mins before the train even arrives, then takes another 10 for that absolute bastard of a freighter to go past, then another 5 because they decide to keep it closed for the passenger train thats only just pulling into Broadmeadow, and then when it finally passes, you get stuck at a fuckin red light.
Genuinely quicker to go up and around past Westfield Kotara, Jesus.
That's all

I’m curious if any of the Asian food places in Newcastle still put their food in the take away paper fold up noodle boxes instead of the plastic tubs?
If anyone knows please let me know 🙏🏻🙏🏻

They come each spring and start calling around 3-4am. Never been able to spot them.
Sounds different to the Bush Stone Curlew.
I assume it migrates here for breeding.

Has anyone sent their kids to either Charlestown childcare and early learning centre or the hive academy? Please give your honest reviews for either if you do!
Thank you

Hey guys just a long shot but I’m wondering if any pubs in Newcastle will be opening to screen Volkanovski’s fight next Sunday.
(Yes the main card starts at 5am but if they can open up for the World Cup surely they can do the same for Volkanovski)

Hi, please help -
I don't use the buses loads but when I do i always screw up the pay by debit card bit. What you supposed to do? Put it down immediately? Sometimes I'm told to hold on. Wait until the driver looks at you like your an idiot then you put it down.
No matter what I do I seem to make this harder than it should be. I reckon 1 in 4 times I get an error in the terminal thing
Posting in /Newcastle in case our buses are weird or something!

Wanting to change industry’s just not sure what to go into next / where to start
Any recommendations for Career Advisors you’ve seen or job recruiters and your experience working with them would be appreciated
