Looking For low income apartment problems?

• Upvotes

so let's say there's a city owned low income apartment building (there's probably quite a few of them) thats been mismanaged by various contractors and is experiencing significant issues of safety and habitability, including bedbug infestations which tenants haven't been formally notified of, with seemingly no remedy possible for any of the ongoing problens, at least apparently partially due to budget constraints based on how few of the units are filled, even as we sit on this housing budget allocation that is supposed to be fixing things like this. who would you call? throw everything at me, give me your brain dumps and i will sift

Looking For Portland food recs for the weekend?

• Upvotes

hi everyone, I’ll be in Portland with my partner in December. he’s vegetarian, and we are looking for the following:

- Korean food

- dim sum or Chinese food

- high quality, authentic ramen

- a good sandwich shop (I would love for him to try a Reuben and/or a really good sub!)

in my preliminary digging I’ve found places that are exclusively vegan, especially for the deli. this isn’t a dealbreaker, but we eat eggs and dont feel the need to eat vegan ones! but if the exclusively vegan places are the ones with the most authentic food then we will take it. we don’t need places that have options for omnivores, Ive just noticed that most places are either fully vegan or have just a few options and I’m wondering which are best for the above. TIA!!!

Looking For Where to have the best Halloween?

• Upvotes

We live in Buckman, and this is our first Halloween in PDX. We used to live in a great neighborhood for trick or treating, we’d have like 500 kiddos. We’re a young couple and we don’t have our own kids so we love to spoil the locals. I’ve heard from our neighbors that we don’t get many trick or treaters on our street, so while we will try to hand out candy we’re also probably gonna be looking for other things to do where we can walk around , see lots of fun costumes and decorations, hang out with some cool folks etc. Where should we be looking for a good spooky time?

Looking For Spots we shouldn't miss over Halloween?

Me (28M) and my partner (27F) are coming out to Portland over Halloween. (Oct 27-Nov1)

We're going to a popular swingers club for a game night Wednesday night, and don't have any plans for the rest of the trip. We want to go out on Halloween, but other than that have no plans. Where should we go on Halloween? Is a nightclub the best place to party on Halloween? Is there a big house party or something we'd be better off doing that night? Any other recommendations? In the past we've enjoyed stripper karaoke at devils point, and love Portland!

Looking For Immediate trauma counselors to speak to?

I don’t know exactly how to make this post, but my 5 year old son started kindergarten this year in Bend. Only a month ago. His school is about 15 minutes from where the shooting took place today. I won’t trauma dump on Reddit, but I can recognize needing someone to speak with. I understand how lucky I am that it wasn’t his school and how lucky I am I still have my baby, and I won’t ignore that for a moment. But shaken up & terrified is an understatement. TYIA. Rest in peace to those sweet baby angels and teacher, I hope the others are able to recover fully & safely. (I am currently in Portland and looking for someone local)

Looking For Taskrabbit Delivery for Small Moves?

Hi all,

Has anyone used Taskrabbit Delivery (formerly known as Dolly) for moving? I live in a studio and really don't have much, but do need some help with a few big furniture pieces. The quote they gave me was a bit cheaper than a regular moving company, so if it's not a total scam I'd like to go with them lol. I know a lot depends on the tasker but I'm just curious if anyone has any experience using them for moving. Thanks!

Anyone do a land survey in Portland? What was your experience?

I’d like to do a land survey within a Portland suburb. I’m curious if anyone has done one before and would care to share their experience?

I’ve read the faq at https://www.portland.gov/transportation/engineering/land-survey

Specifically I’m looking for a ballpark on cost, although I realize it varies by property and other factors.

I’m also curious how invasive it is for the neighbors? Are the surveyors going to need access to adjacent properties or can it be done without the neighbors knowing?

I’m trying to preempt one particular neighbor who may be unintentionally abusing an easement and I want to keep the peace but have paperwork to backup my claim.

Looking For Landscape remodeling for a skinny house?

Do you own a skinny house, and have you hired a company to design and complete a landscape remodel? If they did a good job, who did you hire?

We’re specifically looking for a company with a good track record with small yards. Our current landscape is ugly and uses the limited space poorly.

Thanks for your leads!

Looking For Where can I get laser resurfacing on my face/neck (not OHSU)?

OHSU is no longer offering CO2 laser as a standalone service. What are some good clinics/dr's to go where they can advise on the best laser option for your needs? Not looking for a medspa, I want to decrease my risks as much as possible.

Looking For Anyone who does landscaping/truck gimme a quote?

I don’t do landscaping proper, I do a very niche type of landscaping.

Except this time, I bit off more than I could chew.

Anyone with a truck/ who does this already, have a quote on a load of yard debris to haul away, to where ever that stuff goes?

Details: north Vancouver street by the New Seasons, you’d have to back up into a driveway, load (I’ll help) and then exit into the “one way” on N Vancouver.

Not sure if I need a permit, but I’d be down to stop the flow of traffic to ease the entry and exit.

The amount seems to be ~ 2 regular truck beds worth/ if the truck bed doesn’t have sides, Or 1-tall truck beds worth, or one regular what ever sized trailer. Or, about 100 30-gallon yard bags, haha.

I don’t have a truck and I can’t place calls. That’s why I’m trying this.

Im not sure where the nearest place to take it would be, or how they charge.

Looking For Things to do near/in Pearl district ?

I just moved to Portland a few weeks ago and haven’t had a chance to do too much because I’ve been working and settling in. I live in the Pearl district, what are some places I should check out? I’m looking for good cafes, restaurants, shops, venues, etc. any social gatherings I should know about? I don’t even know where to begin to start trying to make friends lol. Thanks in advance :)

Looking For Options for driving lessons that offers more than 4 courses? Additionally, what can I do when I don’t have a car to practice?

Most options I see lists 4 courses for around 6-10 hours total. However, I feel as though I need more than I just that. I have driving anxiety bad enough that I’ll actually get recurring nightmares about it… I see that the places I’ve looked at suggest doing my own practice between the courses, but I’m wondering what I should do when I don’t have a car for personal practice.

I live east of Portland where I’m also close to Gresham too for suggestions in Gresham.

Looking For Carpet Beetle Exerminator Recs?

Hi all.

We live in a cool 20s Portland bungalow. We have cats and try to avoid synthetic material. Therefore, we have had carpet beetles since the day we moved in and after seven years, I am raising the white flag.

What we've done:

- Frequently vacuum extensively with a HEPA bag, esp during spring

- Run all animal fiber through a hot dryer for 30mins and then seal in vacuum bags.

- Regularly wash clothing and household goods and dry for 30min at hottest temp possible

- Cedar satches (I know they don't work, but I need the placebo okay)

- Lavender (see above)

I do all of the above at least 3x/year, and yesterday I found a larva mouthing hopefully at a (still sealed) vacuum bag and my soul left my body. I don't know where it came from. During this summer's purge, I fucking bleached anything that could be bleached and wiped down everything else that couldn't. Every time I see larve/casing/adults/eggs, I spend the entire day cleaning.

Folks, I am defeated.

I am a grad student with a huge thesis and holes in her favorite jacket. I. just. can't.

Does anyone have a recommendation for someone else to come in and make this problem go away? Obvs would prefer not to spend $$$ but also...if their hourly rate is cheaper than my therapist, I have a pen in my hand ready to sign a contract.

tl;dr

I need a rec for a carpet beetle exterminator, because otherwise I'm burning this place to the foundation and myself along with it.

TY!!!

EDIT: Thank you so much for all your input! I was feeling pretty defeated earlier but am thinking maybe the war isn't over. Up and over, as they say.

Still, if anyone has a rec for a professional...

Looking For Where can I find a shop that sells video game/movie collectibles, figures, or memorabilia?

Looking to get something for a friends birthday but unfortunately I started planning too late for Etsy shipping. Looking for something like a Master Chief statue, a Pip Boy, Star Wars ships, posters, or even like a Dragon or Samurai statue for their game room. Something that can be put on a shelf as decor.

Everything I find on Maps has mostly games, plush toys, and small figurines in the images and I cant spend an entire day visiting every shop.

Edit: HECK YEAH! Thank you everyone I have several great options to check out now that have exactly what I’m looking for!
