I just moved to Portland a few weeks ago and haven’t had a chance to do too much because I’ve been working and settling in. I live in the Pearl district, what are some places I should check out? I’m looking for good cafes, restaurants, shops, venues, etc. any social gatherings I should know about? I don’t even know where to begin to start trying to make friends lol. Thanks in advance :)

Me (28M) and my partner (27F) are coming out to Portland over Halloween. (Oct 27-Nov1)
We're going to a popular swingers club for a game night Wednesday night, and don't have any plans for the rest of the trip. We want to go out on Halloween, but other than that have no plans. Where should we go on Halloween? Is a nightclub the best place to party on Halloween? Is there a big house party or something we'd be better off doing that night? Any other recommendations? In the past we've enjoyed stripper karaoke at devils point, and love Portland!

hi everyone, I’ll be in Portland with my partner in December. he’s vegetarian, and we are looking for the following:
- Korean food
- dim sum or Chinese food
- high quality, authentic ramen
- a good sandwich shop (I would love for him to try a Reuben and/or a really good sub!)
in my preliminary digging I’ve found places that are exclusively vegan, especially for the deli. this isn’t a dealbreaker, but we eat eggs and dont feel the need to eat vegan ones! but if the exclusively vegan places are the ones with the most authentic food then we will take it. we don’t need places that have options for omnivores, Ive just noticed that most places are either fully vegan or have just a few options and I’m wondering which are best for the above. TIA!!!

I don’t do landscaping proper, I do a very niche type of landscaping.
Except this time, I bit off more than I could chew.
Anyone with a truck/ who does this already, have a quote on a load of yard debris to haul away, to where ever that stuff goes?
Details: north Vancouver street by the New Seasons, you’d have to back up into a driveway, load (I’ll help) and then exit into the “one way” on N Vancouver.
Not sure if I need a permit, but I’d be down to stop the flow of traffic to ease the entry and exit.
The amount seems to be ~ 2 regular truck beds worth/ if the truck bed doesn’t have sides, Or 1-tall truck beds worth, or one regular what ever sized trailer. Or, about 100 30-gallon yard bags, haha.
I don’t have a truck and I can’t place calls. That’s why I’m trying this.
Im not sure where the nearest place to take it would be, or how they charge.

Hi everyone,
I'm looking to make a move from the suburbs into downtown in the next month or so. As a reclusive person I don't have much experience downtown but I am looking to live within a 15-20 minute drive to the airport for employment reasons. I am hoping some kind people will give me advice on areas that would generally be good to avoid living in and/or property management companies to avoid renting from.
More than happy to DM if you don't feel comfortable naming a place or entity, just trying to go from one unpleasant renting experience to an enjoyable one. I'm not sure if there are more peaceful/slower areas that would be good for an introvert to hang around in and try to become comfortable. I've generally been looking at the areas north of 26 and between 205 & 5.
Thanks! :)

(27m) looking for some fun, but I don’t want to pay the expensive cover charge when I could go to a regular club, what’s the experience there for single guys of my age?

I'm looking for a couple good bars in nw area that will be good on Halloween? A bar crawl, or just a couple separate bars that aren't dead.

Hi,
I have about 100 records I don’t want from my FIL and I’m looking to sell them to one of the record shops. Does anyone know who is most receptive to 70’s and 80’s pop/rock/singer-songwriter stuff?
Thanks!

I am in desperate search for Sienna Spiro tickets for Nov. 7th at McMenamins. Do they have a box office? How does that process work? Any tips are helpful and appreciated!

I'm a first-time homebuyer. I followed my parents' advice to save 20% down. Went from $60k income earlier in my career to finally reaching $126k (just got the promotion). I scrimped, saved, basically put my life on hold for 4 years for this down payment, now have roughly a 20% down payment saved.
Now that I'm seriously looking into buying, I've come across Oregon and Portland first-time buyer programs. I was younger when I started saving and didn't even realize these programs existed. Now I'm wondering if I worked hard to save and increase my income only to price myself out of assistance I might have qualified for earlier.
Are there still programs I might qualify for? I'm confused as hell for my particular situation. Anyone's experience is welcomed, thank you.
edit: this is one of the assistance programs I saw:
"The program provides closing costs and down payment assistance to eligible first-time and first-generation homebuyers who are at or below 100% of area median income (AMI). The maximum amount of DPA funds available to each eligible homebuyer is up to $60,000 or 20% of the purchase price, whichever is less, depending on the specific program and eligibility requirements. In some instances, DPA funds are provided in the form of a grant or forgivable second lien." https://www.oregon.gov/ohcs/homeownership/homebuyers/Pages/down-payment-assistance.aspx

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a financial advisor who works for Vanguard or Fidelity in the Portland area to help me manage my Roth IRA. Does anyone have a recommendation or know someone they’ve had a good experience with? Thanks

I have found out that my hoa is not maintaining records like it is supposed to.
They are violating bylaws by granting permission to rent to their friends but when someone with hardship like myself wants to rent out their unit, they deny them the permission.
I have asked them for records that I am legally entitled to see but they have not responded, they didn’t deny because that would be illegal to do so.
There is a management company that HOA hires - bluestone.
I don’t have thousands of dollars to fight their lawyers. I spent $500 on a lawyers just to ask if I have a case. He said I do but I have to spend several thousands to fight it. I am not trying to sue anyone for money. I just want positive change.
Are there any resources available to me to fight such mafia type Hoa ?
Or is selling my townhouse and moving away the only option I have?

I'm qualified, willing to be a warm body in a room at worst- good teacher at best, how does someone become a substitute teacher in PDX? No delusions- I know with school closures this might be an insane time to ask. But I'd truly appreciate any real direction as to how to do this. 🙏
follow up: Where do I go / who do I contact to get a TSPC license?

Hey yall! I currently am living out of a 1987 HAWKINS MOTORCOACH outside of Oregon City. I am having an exhaustive search for an RV park that accept older model RV’s or really anywhere that’ll take an RV. It’s very well maintained and practically in mint condition. If yall know anywhere that accepts older models or anybody who wants to make some extra money each month let me know! Thanks 😊

Title. We tried out Laurelhurst theater, which although it had great popcorn, the food options are limited to pizza (and not great pizza at that). So which theater in town has the best food in your opinion?
Edit: Thanks for all the responses! This was incredibly helpful.

Looking to get something for a friends birthday but unfortunately I started planning too late for Etsy shipping. Looking for something like a Master Chief statue, a Pip Boy, Star Wars ships, posters, or even like a Dragon or Samurai statue for their game room. Something that can be put on a shelf as decor.
Everything I find on Maps has mostly games, plush toys, and small figurines in the images and I cant spend an entire day visiting every shop.
Edit: HECK YEAH! Thank you everyone I have several great options to check out now that have exactly what I’m looking for!

I haven't seen too much info about the Planet Fitness on MLK since it opened a few months ago. Has anyone been or have any thoughts? A corporate gym is gonna have it setbacks, crowds, etc, just thinking about going cause it's right by my house.

Hi, and help! Has anyone had luck filling any of their prescriptions lately? I was on the twice-weekly patch last summer, switched to gel (.5mg), and Fred Meyer is out of what I need. I am just so frustrated with this whole process because I truly need it. Woke up about 10 times last night due to surges/hot flashes and am not functioning well today. 😰
Edit: Thank you to everyone who responded. It gave me a bit of solace to know i’m not alone, but also made me sad and mad that women’s health is still this far behind, and so much of us are going through the same thing.

I have short, fine, dark dishwater blonde hair and have been thinking of coloring it baby pink with natural roots. My hairstyle is very simple, I usually have about 1.5 inches taken off the ends every 8 weeks, no layering or special styling.
People who have their hair professionally colored: how much does it cost in Portland to maintain per year including root touch-ups and trims?

My son has a very shaggy haircut but needs a bit of shaping. The stylist we’ve been going to for years doesn’t really do a good job on his hair anymore so looking to switch it up. Would prefer a salon over a barber. We are in SE, so that area preferred, but anything east side would work.
r/askportland • u/sinnetbs • 7h ago
I need to sing! Yes, I know about private karaoke rooms exist and they are awesome, but sometimes I just want to drop in and not plan a whole event ya know?
East side preferably.
