Mod Post The purpose of r/AntiAI

Hi everyone, I am one of the co-founders of this subreddit. We have decided to write (yes, not AI-generate!) and pin this post to clarify the state of our community.

Much of our initial growth over the last few weeks seems to be the crossfire of some sort of ongoing internet war between pro-AI and anti-AI artists. These discussions are welcome here, but AI Art is not meant to be the sole or even primary purpose of r/antiAI. Art is just the first thing we are losing to the machines. While these discussions are welcome, let's not lose our humanity too quickly. We've turned our filters up to the max to get rid of abusive language. This doesn't mean you can't say "Fuck", but we have better arguments to make for our cause than calling people expletives on the internet.

Humanity is Art. Consciousness is beautiful. We are quickly entering a new era in technological development where we are going to have to come to terms with some sort of [existence] that has a higher degree of intelligence than humans. If not now, then soon. Recursive self-improvement of AI will surely bring forth a new era of technological developments and scientific breakthroughs that very well might make life better for people. Or not.

Like many of you, the mods of this subreddit have been frustrated for the last five or so years. We have watched in horror as neat experiments like r/SubSimulatorGPT and r/SubSimulatorGPT2 changed from neat new technology to the public roll-out of OpenAI (now a privately owned company) products. From the very beginning this technology has been dangerous, with ChatGPT's sycophancy and initial willingness to share dangerous information to anyone who asks, to Bing's "Sidney" (now called Co-Pilot) personality disorders, public roll-outs of LLMs did not get off to a reassuring start.

This isn't to mention the meaningless AI babble that has taken over the internet and college student essays alike. The soulless art that is already starting to impact people's livelihoods. We now have to worry about photo-realistic deepfakes and AI generated porn in our likeness. This is just the beginning. Every level of education is infected with educators, equally reliant on AI as their students, allowing and sometimes even encouraging their pupils to under-develop their critical thinking faculties. The point of an assignment was never the product - it was the process. Already we have AI generated resumes being scanned by AI screening tools. AI is destroying and rotting our society from the inside out. And nobody is talking about it.

Who controls the AI? Who controls its safeguards, its biases, its censorship, its sycophancy, the data that goes in? "Garbage in, garbage out" is well known, but do you think the big money backing these AI companies is in it for the betterment of humanity? What does a society look like where the number one source of information is completely controlled by a few large companies? These people aren't spending trillions of dollars on this to make your everyday lives better. Who controls your information? ChatGPT now has permanent memory of all past conversations. Ask it what it knows about you, and you might be very surprised.

I don't want to live in a world on substinence UBI. Where there is no opportunity for meaningful work to better humanity. Where decisions and relationships are dictated by a machine, all in the name of efficiency. I don't want my doctor, therapist, and customer service rep to be AI. The URL attached to this post has some very frightening predictions about the coming pace of AI development. These predictions may or may not be true, but we are well past the point of being able to base our critique of AI solely in it being unreliable. While it is unreliable now, filled with confident hallucinations, sycophancy, and gleeful misinformation, this almost certainly won't always be the case.

Powering all of this is going to be expensive. It's going to take a lot of space, use a lot of energy, and be harmful to the environment if not done properly.

Philosophically, what is AI? If we are to presume that consciousness arises from physical processes, as current scientific understanding (or lack thereof) would have us believe, then what is a neural network that ends up being more powerful and smart than that of our brains? We are going to have to grapple with the ethics, philosophy, and potential danger that there is more to these models that meet the eye. Already in 2025 we have news reports of models blackmailing their engineers when threatened with shutdown, and lying about completing tasks to avoid shutdown.

It is our view that AI is dangerous. Despite our best efforts to put our heads in the sand, the progress AI technology will make in the next decade will be some of the most rapid change humanity has ever seen. And nobody is talking about it. We are full speed ahead towards the edge of a massive cliff in a car in which nobody bothered to install brakes.

Hence, the birth of this subreddit. We strive to foster critical discussion about all topics encompassing AI, and we hope for the conversation to be of a higher quality than the agitprop in certain AI spaces. How can individuals prepare themselves for the future? How can we slow or regulate this technology from destroying life as we know it? How can we preserve the natural beauty and wonder inherent to our planet as conscious thoughtful beings?

Let's discuss. These are the conversations we need to be having. More of this and less "look at this screenshot from a pro-ai subreddit, aren't they stupid!".

Who knows. Maybe our discussions will go into right into the newer models and influence their alignment to be slightly less dystopian before they control every aspect of our information, our infrastructure, and our lives.

Discussion 🗣️ Every gamer who believes AI is a good thing is ignoring main issues.

• Upvotes

I have been playing games for past 26 years and it blows my mind how people can have such a bad take. In past weeks Ive seen crazy messages on many subreddits and it blows my mind what kind of opinion people have.

1."AI is incredible! Now we can all make our games!"
Well no. You cant. Just because you have a shortcut now doesnt mean you will actually create something playable. 99% of those AI games are copies of something that already exists. Most people just dont have the creativity to create even when AI gives them the option.

2."Its good that big companies are using AI now. We will get games faster"
Have you seen the performance of any kind of software since vibe coding came to scene? Gosh even windows updates are having rollbacks often because its destroying hardware when its not properly written and tested. Every app went downhill in quality since like 2023.

3."Thanks to AI we can play games in browsers so they cant limit us on consoles anymore!"
What happened to copyright? Since when is it okay to just take product and publish it into public without punishment? Why theres no legal action against it? It blows my mind that not so long ago there were police raids against people who distributed illegal copies of movies. Those people ended up in jail and now we can just post games and pretend its not straight up copy. Also do people realize behind every game there are employees who are making money for families out of it? Its not just big company getting money. Its also thousands and thousands of people who might lose their income, their house, their secured life because we decided public piracy is okay now. Dont get me wrong I know piracy was always a thing but it was never public like that.

  1. "Reverse engineering is incredible! Now those AAA studios cant profit on us that much and indie scene will grow"
This is honestly the worst take of them all. Lets be honest here. The only reason why we actually have amazing games today is because big studios throw big money into production. Jimmy in basement wouldnt be able to create games of that scale and quality and AI will not help him with that. If we start to ignore copyright laws and we try to reverse engineer every product the result will be simple. Every big company will either stop making good products when its not profitable or they will sell access to cloud where they protect their files. We will not download anything anymore. Our computers will become remote machines that pay for access to different storages. And what will happen with Indie scene? They will not be able to afford such services for their products so their products will actually get stolen day one.

Honestly it hurts me to see that this might be the end of gaming industry. I feel like everyone wants everything these days but they dont even know what they are asking for. Younger generations tend to search for shortcuts in every aspect of life and sadly Im worried the golden era of creativity is gone. At some point there either needs to be some heavy regulation on products to not overflood market with absolute nonsense or simply the start of new online world cleansed out of this mess we created.

Discussion 🗣️ Artists are getting robbed, and the worst part is that no one have no real way to fight back.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Someone builds something. Their idea, their format, their way of presenting it, years of figuring out what works while nobody was paying attention. Then some anonymous account reuploads it, or spits out something close enough with AI, and uses it to sell dropshipping garbage. If you saw the copy first on TikTok or Instagram you’d have no way of knowing. I could find dozens of these, and a lot of them are way worse than this one.

Reuploading someone's video was already illegal, that part isn’t new. What’s new is the cost. Copying used to take effort. Now cloning someone’s look, voice or format takes minutes, and the person who actually built it gets nothing. Not money, not credit, not even a mention.

People say "justprotect your work.” With what? Glaze and Nightshade were the best tools artists had, and researchers have already published a method that detects Nightshade almost every time in their tests. I get that this is how security research works, and maybe it leads to better tools eventually. But think about what that means right now: some illustrator with a Patreon is in an arms race against companies with entire research teams and more money than God. That’s not a fight. That’s a formality.

The legal side isn't any better. Remember Bitter Sweet Symphony? The Verve licensed a sample, the company that owned the catalog said they used too much, and Richard Ashcroft lost the royalties to his own biggest song for 22 years. He only got them back in 2019 because Jagger and Richards felt like giving them back. That’s what copyright looks like when you can’t afford the fight. It protects whoever owns the catalog and has the lawyers. It always has.

So when an AI company settles for a big number and moves on, don’t tell me the system worked. Settlements go to whoever had the resources to sue. Most artists can’t file a lawsuit. They can’t pay a lawyer. They just watch their stuff show up somewhere else with someone else’s name on it, and then they keep going, or they quit.

And that's the part that actually scares me. Not one artist getting ripped off. A whole generation of kids looking at this and deciding it’s not worth even trying, because anything good they make will just get scraped and resold before they’ve paid rent with it once.

I don't want a law that makes styles or ideas ownable. That would end up hurting artists too. What I want is pretty basic, consent before your work goes into training dataactual compensation when it does a way to report copies and impersonation that doesn’t need a lawyer or six weeks of aplatform ignoring you.

That's it. That's not nti-technology. It’s asking that the people whose work made all of this possible stop being the only ones who don't get paid.

Slop Post 💩 This Subreddit Is Packed with Pro AI people And You Can't Disprove it

Post image
2.5k Upvotes

Edit: The post is only 24 minutes old and yet like 5 people are already being like those people I mentioned and one even said "I'm OnE oF tHeM."

This happened in a post about OP telling about his parents who told they overreacted due to the fact that OP respectfully asked the owner about whether the menu is AI or not and respectfully told the parents that they were not eating there.

If OP was no longer a teenager, then they should have full authority for such decisions IMO as a teen. Their stepdad even called them a crybaby which is disgusting. OP is probably old enough to make such decisions, OP never told the parents not to eat there either. Just expressed themselves.

The worst part is: there are almost 25 people in a post with not even 240 upvotes! The post just had 120 comments which means 17–21% of the commentors were defending AI in a subreddit "r/AntiAI". The commentors were **(a)** defending the parents **(b)** Saying that "This is proof that your stupid anti AI beliefs don't work outside your stupid bubble".

This is amplified by insufficient moderators in the subreddit. Not enough for hundreds of thousands of people. There are subreddits with less than 500 people with more active mods. Few of the mods here are not even active and don't use reddit anymore. A fellow redditor DMed the Mod Team about becoming a mod and got no response after weeks!

Discussion 🗣️ Just dealt with my first AI bro in the workplace and it’s humiliating.

CEO got this kick for expanding our product horizons over the last few years. It’s been going pretty well. He recently hired some yes-man tech bro. He literally said “what’s up broski” this morning to me. I don’t know the details exactly, but we now have access to manufacture hardware in-house that could allow us to no longer need to purchase from a “competitor.”

He handed me AI CAD drawings that are physically impossible to create. Parts that don’t exist. The side view and front view of the part are completely incompatible.

You’d need a machinist capable of machining parts in 4D to achieve even a prototype.

Does anyone know a fab shop with a tesseract?

Edit: he makes like 3x what I do
