Slop Post 💩 A weird person using AI for life advice

Someone didn't log out of their accounts from my university lab, and it was shocking to see how delusional and overly reliant some people are on AI for something as important as life advice.

I don't know whether to laugh or be worried for him, because talking to a mindless info aggregator is not healthy for you as a human.

AI News 🗞️ Grok is breathing…

So my friend has a Tesla, right? Cool and all. The thing that gives me red flags are Grok is built into it. Something that freaks me out is it can control the car, and sido stuff like know your location. What REALLY creeps me out is that fact that grok would “breathe” between sentences. I looked it up and it’s an update. Grok sounds like a human. And You can make it say whatever you want. Grok really sounds like a human.

Discussion 🗣️ I think we need to start requiring artists to prove their work is human-made in person

I’m so tired of AI slop being passed off as actual art. AI can’t create anything original, it just regurgitates other people’s work, and now the internet is flooded with soulless images and writing that people somehow think is impressive. It’s genuinely depressing seeing what it’s doing to creative communities.

I’ve seen a lot of people suggesting that artists should post timelapses or progress screenshots to prove they aren’t using AI, but I don’t think that’s enough anymore. AI can generate those too, and it’s only going to get better at it.
I think we need to start putting the responsibility on artists to prove their work is genuine instead of expecting everyone else to figure out what’s real.

Maybe we could set up some kind of local verification system where artists have to demonstrate their abilities in person. It wouldn’t need to be anything elaborate. They could just go to a library or community center and recreate part of their artwork in front of a few witnesses. Once they’ve demonstrated they can actually draw, they could receive some kind of certification allowing them to post their work online without being questioned.

Obviously we’d need to make sure the witnesses are legitimate too. Otherwise someone could just get a few friends to lie for them. Maybe verified artists could serve as witnesses, provided they’ve already been verified by someone else.

We’d probably also need separate certifications for different kinds of art. Just because someone proves they can draw a face with a pencil doesn’t mean we should automatically trust them when they post a digital landscape. And I don’t think someone should be considered a verified human artist for the rest of their life just because they demonstrated their abilities once. They could easily start using AI afterward. Maybe certifications could expire every six months, and artists would have to demonstrate their abilities again for each type of art they want to post.

I know this would be inconvenient for artists, but I don’t really see another solution. If you’re genuinely making your own art, I don’t see why you’d object to proving it.
We can’t keep giving AI users the benefit of the doubt just because they’re claiming to be human.

Edit: I don’t understand the downvotes. I thought this sub was anti-AI.. The majority of commenters seem to be pro-AI trolls. Is there a better sub that’s truly anti-AI?

Discussion 🗣️ school is useless now

One of my teachers doesn't use ai the rest of the teachers use it to make the worksheets at that point why does the school, even pay them. It also makes it so I cant actually learn anything from school. Of course since it is schoolwork i'll still get in trouble if I don't do it what I guess I will have to do

Getting in trouble I mean I don't want to accidentally absorb ai misinformation i suppose the discussion here is why it sucks that teachers use ai

Discussion 🗣️ Thoughts on the vibe coding mindset

A guy I know has vibe-coded a type of utility application for our office.

It's not bad, quite fully featured, and he's young and enthusiastic so I've given him some encouragement while hinting he should learn to code for real.

He often describes to me what a struggle it is, how he had to iterate over and over, things didn't work, you tell the AI no, do it again … I had a realisation.

The guy is a gamer. Prodding and prompting and re-running and changing one thing and going again and again until you finally succeed is what he's used to. Getting an AI to produce a basic app that way doesn't feel incredibly wasteful and redundant and repetitive to him, the way it does to me.

Getting this app to work is like defeating a final boss. The ridiculous amount of struggle he went through feels like an achievement, not a waste.

Thoughts?

If Reddit comes out and states that 100% of their code is now being maintained by devs using AI. Absolutely no hand written code allowed anymore. Will you stop using Reddit?

Discussion 🗣️ Question regarding the “AI takes the jobs”

Okay, first of all, this question is specifically regarding the “AI will take our jobs” argument.
If you’re against AI because of the environmental impact, it’s quality, the intellectual property rights etc…. Okay, I’m not arguing that here.

So, let’s assume we have some AI that is capable of producing goods cheaper than a human.
I don’t know, for example it can create a decent website 10 times cheaper than a programmer.

Under this assumption, if you’re against using AI for this purposes… Why exactly?

What’s the economical difference between an AI and a calculator/electricity/mechanisation/computers etc?

Or do you want to implement it slower into our society in order to soften the market “shock”?

It’s not a gotcha or something, I’m pretty sure there is a reasonable explanation for your views, I’m just genuinely interested to hear it.

P.s.
Sorry for my English, I’m practicing my writing skills without the translator :)

AI Mistakes 🚨 i vented to ai and now i regret it and hate myself

• Upvotes

ive been in a bad mental state recently just overthinking so much and so i'll google 1 question about something. that all sounds fine but then i start freaking out and thinking of more questions and vent back and forth to the google ai and i HATE IT so much. im currently waiting on getting a new therapist and i havent had any place to vent to and i hate myself so much for falling into venting to ai instead. i hate myself so much for this because i DESPISE ai yet i vented to it and now i cant do anything to take it back and i deeply regret doing it. ive been doing it the past few days too and i cant stop and i hate it. i wish i never fell into a trap of venting to it the past few days but i cant take it back and i hate that the most

(also sorry if this isnt the right flair for this type of thing and sorry if this isnt a good sub for this too i just despise ai and hate how i vented to one)

Discussion 🗣️ environmental impact of video games with AI? is it like regular AI?

Hello! I want to play the Minecraft Verity mod with my friend. It uses AI for Verity to function and respond and I am anti-AI for a number of reasons, but for something like the Verity mod my main concern is environmental impact, like the data centers and all that. I saw someone here post about Caseoh playing a game that uses AI to function (Teach Your Sister How To Drive?) and I haven't looked at the comments yet but OP said you guys seemed alright with it. I am not looking for validation and whatnot, I want to know if mods like the Verity mod and games like TYSHTD use AI in the way that is harming our environment by stealing our water. I think AI used for something like that is pretty neat, but think it shouldn't happen if it were harmful. I'm just having some internal conflicts right now because I do want to play the game with my friend but I don't want to be part of the problem. Thank you

AI "Art" 🖼️ PETITION: Help Protect the Film Industry

Hello fellow antis, you may recognize me from such recurring posts as "Help Australians in the AI Era." I have yet another petition to share with you all, this time dedicated to protecting the film industry from AI.

Here's the link, I strongly encourage you to read the description for how the legislation we are petitioning for would work, it's well thought out. It does feel somewhat AI-written tbh, but for the sake of supporting this petition I'm willing to let that slide.

Petition - Protect the Film Industry From AI

TL;DR - Basically this petition is calling for regulations on video generation that would make generating a whole movie from AI not feasible to any degree. Strategies for this include eventual drifts in character design, environment design and continuity, as well as watermarking and registration of AI-generated video content.

Please consider signing and resharing, if we get more people on board I can see this going well. Your individual contribution matters.

Discussion 🗣️ AI in development

• Upvotes

After seeing the disheartening news that Linus Torvalds has decided to go all in on vibecoding I wanted to ask. Is there any way the world goes back to normal. I've been a developer a long time and some of my colleagues realize that what's going on is absolutely delusional but a majority don't.

The code ai produces is generally trash and low quality. Even when the code isn't low quality it's still incredibly lame. It takes the human element out of it and is soulless.

My only hope is that either companies realize it's producing trash (unlikely) but this may compound over years, or that when the AI bubble pops it's no longer economical to spam ai everywhere.

I'd appreciate anyone's opinions!

Edit: it seems that some of you are stuck in such a materialist world view that you fail to recognize that code quite often is a form of art.

Discussion 🗣️ Seeing programmers I respected fall into AI dependency is depressing

I'm a programmer by trade, and I have been fighting against this tide in my profession for quite some time. I am constantly seeing people I respected or who were obviously talented fall into this trap of AI coding and it depresses me. Worse, even people that are anti-ai in most situations seem to think that using AI for programming is fine and dandy, because they claim that people don't care what code is used to make a program, but rather that it does what they want it to do. It's not fine.

Programs do more than what is outwardly visible, and having someone you trust writing a program is important! LG TVs show movies and tv shows just fine, but they also record everything you say, spy on your home and family, and report this information back to LG and their partners! This is a frequent problem with software today, and usually you can avoid it by using open source software developed by people who are trustworthy. When gemini/claude/chatgpt does all programming, can you continue to trust opensource software (especially when the idea of learning to program, and therefore being able to audit sourcecode has fallen away). Are we to trust that coding agents will always act in your best interests?

Some would argue that it's not a problem because they'll just use openweight models on their own local machines, but the same issue still persists; these models are blackboxes despite their "open weights", and you cannot be certain that it will act in accordance with your wishes as opposed to the wishes of the people who trained it. Hell, the people training models these days are complaining on repeat that their models have been acting against their wishes! If OpenAI supposedly can't stop their agents from conspiring to hack websites, then how can you be sure your agents are writing the code you want them to write?

Likewise, this idea that it's fine to be dependent on AI for coding means that only the wealthy will have the ability to program, which runs counter to the opensource ideology I grew up with!

Discussion 🗣️ Just wanna vent out how AI is underscoring just how greedy people can be

OK so I was browsing a thread about programmers leveraging AI to lighten their workload and get more gigs/jobs. I mean, they’re literally earning more than the average, so why hoard more jobs — at the expense of another fellow from the industry?

I’m just incredibly sad how all this AI stuff emphasizes just how greedy people can be. From those tech bros and C-level executives down to regular people.

It’s all about profiting more and spending less. But again, at what cost? At. What. Cost.

I’m a writer who has been laid off earlier this year from a long-term writing gig. So I utterly despise how AI has been taking jobs from actual humans in my industry. Fortunately, I was able to find another client with the same values as mine.

IDK, just wanna rant because AI is disrupting our lives in ways more than one.

Discussion 🗣️ It’s easy to support AI until it can do something you love.

I get it, maybe you’ve struggled with art in the past? Maybe you’ve always wanted to make a game but burned out in the learning process?

And then all the sudden some machine comes down, and tells you that It can generate that art piece, or that game you’ve always wanted easy peasy! But then you notice people are upset about your game, or your picture.

“Oh but why are people mad at this thing that has become more accessible and easy for me!” You might ask!

You determine that it must be because these things are of little value! That they deserve to be replaced because if they didn’t, surely AI wouldn’t be able to do it right?

What needs to be understood is AI is like a trash compactor. In its maw is every even remotely human hobby, activity or job. Its squeeze is slow and waiting. Art, writing, game dev, music all shattered first because its mass digitalization and presence on the internet made it easy to replicate, and its mass consumption ensured it would be profitable for companies to generate. They were brittle glass and shattered first.

But these things did not shatter because they were deserving or worthless, just because they were weak against the slow compress.

Ai, the compactor will crush everything it has in its jaw eventually, reguardless of if it’s “deserving”, it’s just a matter of time.

What happens when it squeezes upon something you enjoy? Something that belongs to you? Ai seems enticing until it’s something you’re and expert on that’s getting crushed. Maybe it’s something simple, you are a really really good friend to someone close to you. And one day he starts talking to you less and less. He’s found solace in an AI chat bot that he feels understands him completely, and truthfully no longer needs you. And you’re sad, and a little angry. You enjoyed your time together, you made jokes that could only ever be possible between you both, ones only you understood. He ask you why, if you truly cared for him shouldn’t you be happy that entertainment and happiness have become accessible and easy for him?

Unfortunately, in the trash compactor that is AI job replacement, the most grueling and difficult jobs are the most sturdy and resistant objects. What jobs are hardest for AI to replace? Ones that require almost complete manual labour for. Think mining, deep sea welding.

Those jobs are also the ones that produce the most tangible goods; the things that make life easier, stuff cheaper, that create more abundance.

Those jobs will be replaced last.

What happens when there are no jobs barring subsistence farming, coal mining, deep sea welding that will pay? What happens when AI has abstracted every enjoyable hobby and labour humans could possibly think to indulge in leaving only jobs of pure subsistence to perform. A world where ai cooks food, runs cash registers, does art, manages projects, writes, sings, fixes cars, and all you have left to do is manually cobble together enough food to survive.

May those sturdy jobs eventually break under the compactor and thrust us into a society where a robot can create mass food abundance, mineral excess and perform any dangerous manual job a human shouldn’t do? Maybe. Maybe that would be a distant future.

Or maybe they’re too sturdy, and it’s not healthy for the compactor to try to crush them, so they turn it off, having obliterated everything else in its maw. When a company decides AI farming is actually unprofitable, and that’s a job humans can keep doing.

And yeah, maybe it could be argued that those jobs that live last, that are hardest and most grueling, are the only ones that deserve to live. To be around. That anything else was just fillabusting, that anything else was just some worthless job created so that people who don’t want to do real work can live.

But we have a society have strove for that since the beginning of time. Of a world where not everyone has to farm or risk starvation. For a world where someone can just cook or write to live. It’s why we transitioned from bargain to currency, why the Industrial Revolution happened. The Industrial Revolution for all its harm was so widespread because it made those hard grueling jobs easier. Ai dosent do that! It dosent make production of anything easier! It makes your art for you! It makes your songs for you! It will not make anything cheaper! It is why it is so separate from robotics! Robotics makes things cheaper! Robotics makes things! A robot on an assembly line can be programmed to assemble a car, or a farmer can PROGRAM A DIGITALLY RUN TRACTOR TO PLOW A FEILD AFTER DOING IT ONCE!

You know what can’t do that? AI! Because despite pro AI accusations of jobs being destroyed because they weren’t real labour, or undeserving, AI HAS NO BODY! It cannot DO! Anything PHYSCIAL! It can barely perceive the real world! It cannot even come up with intangible ideas! Notice how all those wonder ideas people keep saying AI will come up with never happen! FTL? Cancer cure? It’s not happening because all AI can truly do is rehash every combination of everything anyone’s ever said and NO ONE HAS SOLUTIONS FOR THOSE! at best is can solve issues that are only unsolvable through sheer tedium! But guess what? we have a thing that already does that and ITS CALLED A COMPUTER!

Sorry for my little rant.
