Should I be upset?
Me: “Please plan something for our 1 year engagement anniversary. Just a nice date. That’s all I want.”
Him: “Ramen?” (The place across the street)
😤😤😤 REALLY?!
I’ve been home 7 months with our baby. I’m tired. I carry so much mental load. All I wanted was ONE evening where I didn’t have to be in charge of the plan. And I get NOODLES?!
I don’t care if we bring the baby! I WANT to bring the baby! Just put some actual thought into it! 😤😂 I swear if that’s his final answer I might actually scream…
And before you go oh it’s the money it’s not…

Sometimes they need it spelled out.
“Hey babe, an example of a nice date looks like this” (name some places you’ve been or would like to go, or other nice dates you’ve had)
“Meanwhile, an example of something that is NOT what I’d consider to be a nice date include…” (be sure to mention ramen and anything else that you don’t think constitutes a nice date.)
Don’t be afraid to tell him that you need him to shoulder more of the mental load. You have done more than your share, (especially by patiently explaining what a “nice date” should look like/sound like/feel like.) Sometimes it’s hard when an SO has no clue what you’re talking about when you say “mental load” which is telling in and of itself.
I hope he gets it together and you enjoy a nice date for your first anniversary!
