5P game for complete newbies using as pictured - what’s my best option?
I’ve got a V2 starter, a Rebel Alliance starter, a Galactic Empire starter, the Battle of Yavin, a Death Star mat (90x90), a starfield mat (90x90) and three Death Star Turrets (one pictured).
I’ve played V1, none of us have ever played v2 or v2.5 so I need a teaching game and then perhaps a thematic mission using the components I have collected previously but not played.
Any cool suggestions as how to set this up best for five players? Everyone is an adult (in fact an old fart!) but all non board game types so I don’t want loads of complexity really.
Cheers in advance for any ideas!

Look into the Aces high format! Everyone gets one ship and you fight it out, great drinks and dice game

100% the best suggestion. Give everyone a 50 point ship (2.0 Legacy rules). You should probably put some before game effort into building them with upgrades so they are all equal.
Then everyone smashes into each other on the same mat. If someone blows up, they respawn and go again. Definitely the best way to introduce a bunch of old mates to the joy of dogfighting.

Was about to give the same suggestion! Make sure everyone is close in points, but you can play a free for all where everyone pilots one ship. Scoring the last hit on a ship earns you a victory point, and the player who was shot down gets to respawn and keep playing. It’s a great time for everyone around.

If everyone is new, you should start with a round of one ship per person with as few upgrades as possible so that everyone can learn the basics. Naked x-wing, y-wing with a turret, a-wing with missiles, etc. Everyone picks whatever ship looks coolest and just try not to crash into each other

You sit out, coach two simultaneous 1v1 games with 1, maybe 2 ships each with a single upgrade or no upgrade per ship.
Let your friends learn the game first.
Then, once everyone feels like they have it under their belt, do a 1-ship-per-player 5-player free for all for fun.

Considering whats available I would suggest to fly the scenario change engagement (scoring for ships next to the center objective) and 6 obstacles (asteroids, gas clouds, debris).
Use the fixed configurations from the squadron boxes.
Team imperial: Player 1 (most experienced)
- Darth Vader in TIE advanced
Player 2
- Iden Versio in TIE Fighter
- TIE Fighter Academy Pilot
Team Rebels Player 1 (more experienced) Luke Skywalker in X-Wing 1x Jake Farell in A-Wing
Player 2 (least experienced) Dutch Vander in Y-Wing 1x X-Wing Blue Escort + Proton Torpedo
The 5th player could either support the Empire with Tomax Bran in the TIE Bomber or the Rebellion with Arvyl in the A-Wing.

Had further thoughts on this with a bit of internet inspiration and people’s comments on here so thanks if you replied.
5 players using a 90x90 Death Star mat with 3x turbo laser turrets.
Round 1-3
1p X Wing (Luke Skywalker)
2p X Wing (Jek Porkins)
3p Y Wing (Dutch Vander)
4p & 5p take turns using the Imperial turbo laser turrets
The Y Wing player positioned to make a trench run at the exhaust port.
The X Wings to cut across their axis and draw their fire attacking the turbo laser turrets.
After 3 rounds the Rebel players notice the guns have stopped and are warned to check their sensors for enemy fighters heading their way.
4p 2 x Tie Fighter (Night Beast and Valen Rudor) - respawned if destroyed.
5p 1 x Tie Advanced (Darth Vader)
Rounds 4-8 are the trench run - if the Y Wing is destroyed then any surviving X Wing can start their run.
If the Death Star exhaust port suffers a critical or two hits in one attack then it starts the chain reaction that will destroy the battle station.
If the Imperials can hold off the Rebels to the end of Round 8 then the Death Star is able to successfully destroy the Rebel base on Yavin.
Hope this sounds feasible!
Might do Aces High initially then launch into the Attack on the Death Star scenario so everyone gets used to the ships and everything they have to do on their turn

2 X-Wings.
2 A-Wings.
1 Y-Wing.
Ooor
1 TIE Advance.
3 TIE Fighters.
1 TIE Bomber.
Oh 5 players. I read it as 5 piece.
HMMM...
2 pieces per person
Either 2 teams.
2 X-Wings. 1p as Rebel.
2 A-Wings. 1p as Rebel.
You could mix these to 1 X and 1 A each but they fly differently, so if new, stay same.
And then Imp options.
2 TIE Fighters x2p.
1 Advanced and 1 Bomber 1p.
Or
1 TIE Fighter and 1 Bomber 1p as Imp.
And 1 Advanced and 1 Fighter 1p as Imp.
2 x TIE Fighters 1p as Imp.
Depends on if you want to kiip it simple again or spread the flifht variances out.
Finally, you could sneak in a third column 1 TIE Fighter and 1 Y-Wing as scum. But then it would feel quite uneven.
The Imperial vs Rebel would probably feel better.

Probably wouldn't get hung up on actual rules/list building.
Just do a 2vs3 each person has a couple of ships.
Semi follow the scenario and just have fun with it.
Have neverending tie fighters. They come back from a certain board edge
