Firstly, I know there's been a lot of negativity for the remaster in the last couple weeks, but I think it's important for us to talk about this. The game was fine before, but it isn't anymore.
I've encountered quite a few minor gameplay bugs (bisected enemies just standing there as if nothing happened is a favorite of mine), but those are mostly just funny. What's really bothering me is the visuals when ray tracing is disabled.
It feels like the lighting was entirely remade to accommodate RT, but they forgot to actually test what it'd look like without RT. This has caused some shadows and interiors to look way too dark. Then there are the random patches of nearly pitch black shadows appearing where there shouldn't be shadows at all, and interior shadows "leaking" to the outside of their buildings.
Toussaint looks way too saturated, too. It's always been more colorful than the other areas of the game by design, true, but that's not what's going on here. The colorful regions there used to look stunning and like something out of a painting. Now, not so much. Anyone can just go there and disable RT to see what I'm talking about. Use photo mode to get a view from above Bouclair, and the issue becomes even more apparent.
As I said, all of this seems to be fixed by enabling RT. The problem with that is that not everyone (the majority of players, I'm willing to bet) has a GPU capable of handling RT without taking an absurd hit to performance — I have an RX 7600 and can run the game on a mix of high/ultra+ settings (FSR set to Native AA) at ~75-80fps, but the moment I turn RT on, even with all of its optional settings disabled, my FPS drops by more than half.
