Is it ok to call 000 for a mental health emergency in Perth?

Hi Reddit,

Just wondering if it's ok to call 000 for a mental health emergency?

I understand these services are for legitimate medical emergencies and I don't want to waste anyone's time.

I did trying calling Lifeline and MHERL. Lifeline wasn't particularly helpful and MHERL told me to simply book an appointment with my GP when I explained I had a plan, means and intent.

EDIT: Thank you all for your responses. Unfortunately, I couldn't bring myself to call 000. I was just very thrown by what the lady from MHERL said and I still feel worried about calling someone. I'm somewhat ok at the moment, but I will probably call 000 when I feel this way again.

I don’t trust the proposed uni merger (UWA, Curtin & Murdoch)

What am I missing? Who stands to benefit, and what’s really driving this? Drop your intel, theories, conspiracies, etc.

I’ve been brainstorming and haven’t got much, but one possibility is they want to sell land for housing. Another is whether it’s part of a conspiracy with federal Labor to reduce foreign student numbers and thereby try to get back some anti immigration votes from PHON. My theories aren’t strong, so what are yours?

Made a free tool to check what a FIFO/mining job ad actually requires before you pay for tickets

A lot of people trying to get into FIFO from Perth end up paying for tickets and courses "just in case", without knowing if the job they're applying for actually needs them.

I built a free tool for this. You paste in a FIFO or mining job ad and a few details about your experience and tickets, and it breaks down:

- what the ad lists as essential vs. only desirable

- your biggest gap for that specific job

- which tickets the ad actually asks for, and which ones it doesn't mention

- things to check, like point of hire and travel

- a few questions worth asking the recruiter

It's free, no sign-up and no email, and it doesn't save what you paste. If you don't have an ad handy, there's a sample you can try.

https://fifiocheck.vercel.app

It's early and I'd really like feedback from people actually applying. Did the result make sense for your job? Anything it got wrong or missed?

It doesn't replace asking the employer. It's just meant to help you decide what to check before you spend money.

Highschool GATE program experience

Hi everyone! 😊

I’d love to hear about your experiences, or your child’s experiences, with GATE programs at schools in Western Australia, other than Perth Modern School.

Did you find the program enjoyable, challenging and beneficial for learning, or was it stressful and overwhelming? What was the learning environment like, and do you feel the program was a positive experience overall?

I’d really appreciate hearing both the positive and negative experiences, as I’m trying to get a better understanding of what these programs are like in practice.

Thanks so much in advance for sharing! 😊

Hello - is anyone flying from Perth to DXB within the next few days?

I need a huge favor. My passport brought over as I'm currently stuck here without it.

Yes, I have done everything in my power to sort it. After talking with NZ / AU embassy + border control, this is my only option.

Thank you
