MOD POST Rule change announcement

As of now, AI art is no longer allowed on this sub, marked or otherwise.

We have seen the complaints and what AI art is doing to the community, and after some deliberation, we have decided to walk back our previous decision to allow AI art as long as it is marked. AI art will now be removed whenever it is caught.

Thank you for understanding, and sorry for taking this long to enact this change.

discussion New rules and updates

Hi, I know I don’t make myself seen very often, but this sub has grown way bigger than I ever thought it would, and I think it’s time to tighten up this ship. First, I will be implementing two new rules:

1 - AI art must be marked as such.

2 - disputes of plagiarism should be brought to the attention of moderators.

I will be adding a new flair for AI art to allow the indication. While I do not agree with AI art, I know this platform is for both budding artists and budding writers, and sometimes AI art can help those get the ball rolling. But I do believe in openness with audiences. People have the right to know if AI art is being used.

As for the second addition, I have seen a lot of disputes going on in the comments of posts about plagiarism. While a moderator may not be the end-all and be-all say in if plagiarism is taking place, I think it would be better to have these disputes behind closed doors where the rest of the community does not have to see in case it gets ugly.

With all that being said, I have basically been moderating the sub by myself since I made it, and it has officially grown beyond my hands off approach. I will now be looking for new moderators to step in and help handle the subreddit. If you have read this far and are interested, please reach out. I will be looking to add three new moderators to start, and will add more if needed.

Thank you all for making this subreddit what it is today, and I hope this will help it grow even farther.

Art 🎨 Some of my favourite panels I have done

Honestly I loved doing these panels. I try to reserve this level of detail for the scenes that matter, but whenever I get a chance to draw detailed trees or lots of flowey hair it puts me right into my element

Here's the opening to Chapter 7 of my Cyberpunk Webcomic. I am still very happy with how it turned out. The work for this webcomic has been really rewarding. I hope y'all enjoy it as well and if you can I would definitely appreciate some feedback!

Question Is it worth trying to become an Original?

Is it worth thinking about trying to get my canvas work turned to an original? Or is it incredibly difficult, and even harder without connections? I'm not even so sure how the transition from canvas to original works, like is there someone at Webtoon just searching across canvas looking for a good story, or is it simply numbers?

Discussion I miss when animation and comics felt handmade. Who’s keeping that magic alive?

I was raised on analogue and tactile media. I still love vinyl records, cassette tapes, physical books, and despise kindle. I miss when movies were shot on film, and when animation was hand drawn with pencil and ink. I don't know if I'm crazy, but I struggle so hard to connect with digital work...

Please hear me when I say I get it, and I appreciate what digital has allowed so many artists to achieve, myself included. I'm not poo-pooing it. It has value.

But as we start to lose physical media, transition to an economy where we own less and less, everything is a subscription or a lease, and AI is flooding our eyeballs with ghastly abominations, I feel like something very important is being lost, and it feels worth fighting for. To me, it's existential.

So - with that said...can we start a discussion about our favorite tactile animation, manga and webcomics? Not just looking at the past, but specifically looking at modern artists today who are reviving the feeling? Even if they are using digital tools, but still pursuing that organic, vintage look and feel?

A few recent examples I love are Goodbye, Lara, Go for It, Nakamura-kun!!, Look Back, Cocoon, and The Girl from the Other Side. All very different, but there's something about the texture, imperfect linework, and organic quality that I find so much more compelling. I'd love to discover more artists working in this direction, especially independent manga and Webtoon creators! Which are your favorites?

Thank you in advance for sharing your picks!

-❤️L

It's currently at 166 and I'm so excited!! It feels kinda crazy that people are actually reading it. 😵‍💫 I'm so happy. I use to always make stuff, but never post it cause I didn't think people would be interested so this is really cool!

Big thanks to everyone in this subreddit. I lurk here a lot and it's super awesome getting to see everyone's work. I feel like any time I feel art/writers block I can come here and get inspired by everyone haha. ^^

I’m thinking of publishing this comic to Webtoon once I’m done with it, do you guys think I should publish it as is? Or would it be worth it to reformat it in the scrolling layout.

Question How Do I Advertise My Work Without Feeling Annoying??

Seriously, every time I post about my comic I want to hide myself in a pit! What’s your advice and where and how do you make your work known without feeling awful about it afterwards? Or will that feeling always linger? I honestly have no idea and am trying a bit of everything for now, but so far posting on Reddit has shown most success. Instagram is NOT reliable when it comes to advertising your work that you post outside that app. Just had a post go very very viral and literally got no new readers (guess because it was more of a meme post, but still, it had to do with the comic characters). But how do you do it? And what strategy worked for your comic? And how can I not feel annoying?? Or is that part of the job now?…

I've always been interested in unique forms of story telling. And I knew my friend Drea was working on something new - so seeing her amazing art telling a story in this vertical format is so freaking awesome. (makes me feel like I'm unrolling a scroll).

Check it out if you love comics, unique storytelling, beautiful art, and project influenced by the amazing and classic Phantom of the Opera.
