I've had many cards in the past with various benefits. Each of the good ones had a yearly cost and decent benefits. Currently I carry the Amex Reserve Aeroplan card. The Costco MC with cash back. A BMO MC with cash back. And the WS Visa.
As far as overall value the WS card is the winner for me.
BMO - $100/year. The BMO card is annoying. I have to now apply cash to precious purchases to redeem. I hate it and barely use it anymore. It will be cancelled soon.
Amex - $700 per year staring next year. The Amex Reserve is great for earning Aeroplan points and has nice perks like a free checked bag, louge accessz zone 2 boarding, and stays reward points that can help you achieve star Alliance status. However it's very expensive and if you don't travel all that much the perks aren't all that useful. $700 goes a long way to making an airport experience better if you only fly a few times a year. I will probably cancel this card when my current year is up in February. The shitty part is this card has a companion pass you can get that you earn once a year but only after you pay the fee. The pass itself is of moderate value imo though.
CIBC Costco MC - No fee. Cash back is good but you only get it once a year and you have to go to Costco to redeem. The process is easy but why do I have to physically go get the money and why just once a year? I'll keep this one as Costco only accepts MC and it's free but it only gets used at Costco.
WS VISA Infinite - no charge - the benefits for this card such as insurance and the like is very similar to my Amex. The cash back is very similar to my Costco MC expect you can get it when you want with no physical store visit. It has become my favourite card and unless something big happens that won't change.
Anyway not a huge detailed analysis but just the general observations of someone who charges about $30-40K per month on my various cards due to work stuff.
Edit - Fixed WS MC to WS VISA...oops
