40k News Warhammer Atlanta Open
I saw the Atlanta Open is happening in late November. I’m relatively new to WH40K and live in the area. I’m curious, are non-competitors allowed to go? Are there vendors there? Do you have a chance to chat to players also? I’d love to go check it out, burly some paints or a box or 2, and chat to some fellow faction players! I wanna play a tourney one day, just not there yet.
P.S. if there’s a T’au Empire player planning on going and does some coaching on the side, I’m very interested!
Thanks!

There's very little point in going if you aren't participating in one of the events, whether that's the GT or the narrative event or a painting class. The only things you can buy at a GW event are the same GW products you can buy from the store at any time and people are going to be too busy with their games to chat. These events are run with very tight time slots where players have to be 100% focused on getting their game finished, and most of the time tables are tightly packed with little room for spectators even if you don't do anything to interact with the players.

You CAN go, just don't want you to be disappointed. I have seen people slowly walk from table to table during games and just watch and maybe make a few comments on models and so forth, but most likely not going to get much else out of it. I wouldn't pay for coaching at this phase or anything like that, I would just join a Tau discord first and start meeting people there. I also live in the Atlanta area and can send you some invites to discord groups here.

I’m in some discord groups, I just learn a lot better in hands on, but I’m interested in which groups you’re in or recommend!

There is Giga-bytes Cafe, Level Up Games, Peach State Games, and the SUPER. COOL. DUDES. discord which all can provide you both people to chat tactics with and for pickup games.

There are not any vendors besides GW, but spectators are welcome to attend, and there are many events for non-players (painting classes etc). If you want to watch an actual game, GW has a stream table at the event and the stream is broadcast inside the venue (at least it was in Dallas). If you prefer to watch a game actually at the table just make sure that you have explicit permission from both players, do not interfere, and do not slow pace of play with questions or distractions.
