Sol Katmandu Park & Resort with a young child â what I wish I had known before booking
We stayed at Sol Katmandu Park & Resort in Magaluf in September 2026 with our young child.
Iâm posting this because before booking I saw the hotel heavily presented as a family resort, and I think there are a few things parents should know before deciding.
The biggest issue for us was the location and night-time noise.
The hotel itself did try to help after we complained and moved us to another room, where the noise was somewhat lower. But the real problem is the surrounding area.
There are many bars, nightlife venues and adult-oriented clubs nearby, and we repeatedly heard intoxicated people shouting in the streets until around 5â6 AM.
Of course, the hotel cannot control public streets, but this is something I personally would have wanted to know before booking a family holiday with a small child.
Another issue was cleanliness.
In our second room there were visible signs of mould on the silicone in the shower. The bed linen had been washed but still had visible stains, and the extra mattress intended for our child was visibly dirty.
We also found the hotel generally more worn and less thoroughly cleaned than we expected from a 4-star property.
Another thing that surprised us was how many paid arcade machines there are throughout the hotel.
They are very visible, with flashing lights, sounds and bright colours, and almost every machine requires additional payment.
As a parent, I sometimes felt like we were constantly walking through an amusement arcade. One or two machines would not bother me, but there were enough of them that our child was constantly being attracted to another one.
The food itself was average.
Breakfast became repetitive after only a few days, there was limited variety in fruit and vegetables, drinks were mainly from dispensers, and normal dining drinks were generally served in plastic cups.
The coffee was also below what I would expect from a 4-star hotel.
We also had issues with hotel rules not being enforced consistently.
Smoking happened in areas where it was prohibited, and children were using laser pointers despite them being explicitly banned. In our experience, staff often reacted only after someone complained.
The Katmandu Park concept itself is good, and I completely understand why many children love it.
But for us there was a big difference between the image of a 4-star family resort and the actual experience.
If we had known beforehand about:
- the intense nightlife nearby,
- noise until early morning,
- the cleanliness issues,
- the large number of paid arcade machines,
- and the overall atmosphere,
we would not have chosen this hotel for a family holiday with a young child.
This is not meant as a âhate postâ about the hotel. The staff did try to help with the room change.
Iâm posting it because I would have appreciated reading this perspective before booking.
Happy to answer questions from anyone considering the hotel.
