Course Questions How cooked am I? EACC STUDENT

So let me talk about my situation as of current. I have 8 classes and 2 semesters left (not counting summer) for finishing up my major. I'm currently talking ECON 136B, 137A, and 100B which is really taxing already. I honestly really do not want to do summer as I will have to waste more time here and also spend more money on rent. If you were in my shoes would you take WINTER (Econ Elec, Acct Elect, 140A, and 136C) and in the SPRING (Acct Elec, 134A, 118, and 101). I am honestly not sure if it's doable and I've already accepted that my GPA is going to go way down. Please let me know what you would do in my shoes.

Course Questions What to do if I missed a discovery seminar meeting?

This quarter I have been going to INT 86GG- Identity & Art, and the first two times I was reasonably able to locate the course between the two rooms we met in. However, I came a few minutes early to the third meeting and both doors for the rooms we previously met in were locked. I did not have any contact with anyone else in the seminar and did not know how to contact the professor hosting the seminar, so I had no idea where else to look. There was also another student in the seminar who could not find where we were meeting either. I got marked absent for this meeting as a result, and now I'm concerned about not passing a seminar in my first quarter because this happened. Also, when I check GOLD the room for the seminar is listed as "TBA," so I could not simply check that to find the room. I was wondering if anyone had similar experiences with discovery seminars, or might even be in this seminar who would know where I was supposed to go this week.

IV/Goleta/SB Whole bunch of people running on the bike lane?!?

I deadass was biking home and suddenly everyone and their grandmother decided that it was a good idea to go running on the bike lane. I even saw a mom pushing a stroller and her like 5 year old kid right next to her that I almost ran over because I had another group of runner in front of her. If you are going on a run, USE THE DAMN SIDEWALK ITS WHAT IT'S MADE FOR. I'm so sick of runners man

Academic Life Math and AI discussion

I know some math fields are currently reeling with Anthropic’s new drop of math proofs. I am curious, does anyone know if the math department is hosting any sort of town hall or discussion with the student, as to what it currently happening, or what the prospects are? I’d like to be more informed.

Social Life Snow club staff +all cal

Hi I’m a student looking to be apart of some social clubs. I was invited to be on staff for snow club but I’m not really sure if I want to do it… don’t get me wrong everyone seems so nice but they definitely go really hard. Does anyone have any insight on being in staff? Also is the all cal worth it?

General Question Missed TAG deadline

I honestly have no clue how I missed the deadline I genuinely just thought that it was much later than it was. I’m looking to transfer in from SBCC for Econ. I have a 3.44 and try to do as much as I can on the UCSB campus, I also ended up being staff on a new club at the school last year. I just want to know how low my chances are of making it in.

Discussion where on campus to cut my own hair?

I live in the dorms that have communal style bathrooms, and I'm pretty sure my RA won't care because I already dyed my own hair in those bathrooms, but I'm most worried about the clean up process since I have thick hair, and I also don't want to risk getting in trouble because even if my RA is chill dying my hair isn't necessarily allowed? Help.

IV/Goleta/SB STUDENT-WRITTEN MUSICAL THIS WEEKEND!!!!

Post image
30 Upvotes

Oh my gods! Here’s A Story You’ve Heard about the worst woman to walk on this earth… Epics, glory, legends fail to tell her tale, but come with us on an Adventure and hear her story.

Shrunken Heads Production Company, with support from the UC Santa Barbara Department of Music, presents A Legacy of Stone, an original student-written musical by Cameron Hastings, the Music Director of Shrunken Heads. This production is Shrunken Heads’ first Fall Intensive, and includes a live UCSB student orchestra, enchanting performance & dance, and an Ancient Greece-themed Gala at the UCSB Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall.

A Legacy of Stone tells the story of Medusa, a legend of Greek mythology, in her humble beginnings as a priestess of Athena. She finds herself falling in love with Vasilias, a man who keeps his cards close to his chest, against Athena’s counsel. A centuries-long feud re-ignites, and Medusa is challenged with balancing devotion, autonomy, and perseverance, which begs the question: can you discover power through pain and loss?

PERFORMANCE DATE, TIME, and LOCATION
● October 16th, 7:00 pm (Ancient Greece-Themed Gala immediately following show)
● October 17th, 7:00 pm
● October 18th, 2:00 pm

Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall

Academic Life Drop (w/o a W) deadline coming soon

A week from this Wed, in fact.

If you get beat up by your upcoming chem, bio, or math midterm and want a mulligan, hit that drop button by next Wed, 10/21 and you'll be in business.

That said, this ain't like drop deadlines in the past. You used to be able to drop below 12 units after the financial aid census w/o any impact to your aid. That is no longer true. Now, you'll get this message in your GOLD before you finalize your DROP:

You will definitely want to talk to a financial aid counselor to discuss all your options and thoroughly understand the implications. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE 11TH HOUR to discover the impacts.

These are always difficult conversations, I get it. A great many frosh and new transfer students get the worst grades of their academic career this time of year, and it almost always leaves 'em shook.

But as I've told hundreds of students in the past: bad news won't get better with age--no matter how much we may wish it so. The time to problem-solve starts now.

Social Life Looking for study, yap buddy low key

Anyone else feel like college social life revolves around partying and drinking? 😭 I’m more of a low-key person who’d rather watch a movie, yap about random stuff, or study together. I’m premed and considering Applied Math, so finding a study buddy would be cool too. Just looking for people with a similar vibe lol.
