Discussion Tabletop Roleplay is great for practicing your voice, but I looked everywhere and couldn't find a trans TTRPG community. Sooo I made one to see if maybe it's a niche desperately waiting to be filled like transvoices was all those years ago. Say hello to r/TransTTRPG

Discussion Now more than ever, remember they can never take away your voice.

They can't stop your vocal transition. They can't stop you from learning and practicing. They can't stop you from speaking up. Be loud. Be brave. I will keep fighting all my life, and so should you.

This affects the world, regardless of borders. There will be an election in Canada soon, and it's looking grim on our side as well. I'll be volunteering in an election for the first time, and I've gotten other people on board to join me. And I'll be protesting. And I'll be loud on social media.

Make your voices heard. Express yourself, not just your anger but your pain and your fear. Make them understand the consequences of their actions. I don't believe they all wanted this. Most of them just... didn't care or know enough to realize how much hurt their selfish vote would bring. Tell them. Make them know.

They can never take away your voice.

Discussion What should I do with the resources I've posted?

Hey there everyone, your friendly (and tired) neighborhood voice coach Chloe here with a general question for the community.

Some of you have seen me posting my videos here a few times every week for the last few months, to varying levels of help that it has provided to some people. It's been an honor to post them and I've been glad to share them, and for a bit I was hopeful that I was making a difference for some people that needed it.

Recently, my account got flagged as spam and was limited. In short, all of the content that I had posted here is now invisible.

I wanted to see if it would be helpful for me to either put them back up here, link to other socials that I post this content to, or just not bother and just respond to people in text-format like I used to do years ago.

What do you find folks over here think that I should do? What would be most helpful to you all? If none of the options listed above are useful, or you think that this space is better off without me, I'm also welcome to hearing those suggestions as well. I guess at the end of the day I find myself at a bit of a crossroads and want to hear from people here what would be most helpful.

Regardless of the outcome, I'm rooting for you all. I've been glad to be a part of the community here for the last four or so years, and would be glad to keep helping people out wherever it is warranted. Thank you for your time :)

I've seen a lot of discourse and even some arguments lately about who sounds fem and who doesn't. Women come in all shapes and sizes and have voices that range across an entire spectrum.

Quit being so hard on yourself and have fun with the journey!

Question how to make speech patterns more masculine?

My voice has dropped and now i think my only problem is my speech patterns. since i still sound like a girl just with a deep voice

i know speaking monotone is more masculine but what are other masculine speech patterns besides that?

Criticism Wanted What does my voice read as? I feel like I may be settling in way too low and/or breathy, but I feel like it sounds more natural. I used to be way too high and artificial sounding, so I’m not sure if I overcorrected.

I just can’t maintain placement ig. I hate my stupid fucking body

I have a condition that causes me to vomit in the morning. Frequently. There was a period of a little longer than a year where it was every day.

I think this has caused scarring to my vocal cords/throat. I sound so fucking awful

I used to be such an amazing tenor and now I can barely get out my baritone range so I have no hopes of ever singing in a fem voice which I’m already struggling to come to terms with.

How can I ever be truly me if I can’t even talk in a voice that isn’t masculine, let alone sing in one.

The best I can manage is wannabe Siri, monotone robotic breathy forced sounding bullshit

Question My pitch keeps slowly dropping as I talk

So I’ve been working with a vocal coach for a few months now and according to her, I have a pretty passable fem voice now. However, when we do extended conversation or I practice on my own for a while, I find that my average pitch slowly starts creeping back down to my baseline masc range and ruins the fem voice.

It’s too slow of a change to notice in the moment, and I’m not really sure why it happens. I don’t really have much strain or anything at the higher pitches, at least not any more than normal. My vocal coach says it’ll just fix itself with more practice but I’m worried it’ll never get better. I have no clue how to fix it or practice not doing it - you can’t fix something if you can’t even notice you’re doing it.

I’ve been researching surgeries to permanently raise pitch but the risks and recovery are super scary so I’d love to not have to do something that drastic.

It’s like this, Internal part of the voice. Something that binds the overarching words together? Almost like the backdrop of what i’m saying.

Any help would be huge :( really frustrated. Worried i’ll need surgery.

Question Hard palate tension when practicing vocal weight

Hello,

i have been trying to practice control over my vocal weight and i've been liking my progress, but i've started noticing that there is this strange tension building in my hard palate, like it just feels tense, not painful or anything and nothing past it (not soft palate nor anywhere near my voice box/throat) and i'm just not sure what might be the issue, i saw it could be related to either jaw or tongue tension, so i've tried to stretch my tongue and relax my jaw and i'm fairly certain i am not slipping into falsetto either..

My reference point for weight has been the 'cooing at a baby' method from Trans Voice Lesson Youtube, and from there i glide towards softer whisper and towards louder buzzy voice.. i do think i have a conscious control over my soft palate, or something in that area and even when i try to focus on relaxing anything near where the tension is.. it doesn't completely help.

Did anyone encounter this or has any advice?

Thank you.

Discussion I feel like I'm going to be practicing my voice every day for the rest of my life.

I kind of just accepted it. I am mtf and have trained my voice to be passing. A big goal of my transition was to get a female voice which I have mostly achieved. Of course it isn't perfect. My voice is a very important goal of my transition, as my voice dropping was one of the worst experiences of my life in regards to my dysphoria.

I am mostly happy with my voice right now. I have a lower pitched female voice. I have really improved on my vocal weight and I am straining less.

But I have become hyper aware of instances when my resonance drops back down and my weight becomes too heavy when I am out in public. When I wake up and practice, I often hear gaps in my resonance that I have to fix. I have been practicing every day for a year now. Because my voice is something that I use every single day, I don't feel confident when I don't have a practice session in.

Really sucks that one pubertal change sentenced me to a lifetime of playing vocal cleanup. In february I am having a consultation for a glottoplasty which I am still on the fence about because I have made huge improvements to my voice over the course of a year. Glottoplasties also dont address resonance. It would be nice to make vocal training at least a little easier. But I also like singing. sooo

Maybe one day I'll be able to use my voice without practicing. But I have too much trauma roped into what I used to sound like and want to stay as far away from that as possible.

I am a little sick right now but other than that, this is what my voice normally sounds like. I sound very feminine and get misgendered even when I visually pass. What should I work on?

Criticism Wanted 35 Days Post-VFS — Looking for Feedback

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello! I’m 35 days post-op from a modified Wendler glottoplasty, and I’m looking feedback on how I sound! My pitch has increased a lot, though I’m not able to gauge how well my voice passes. I trained for about a year prior to surgery but my voice was pretty buzzy and I wasn’t able to get to a place where I could sustain my pitch above about 160hz without losing volume and range. I tend to have flatter intonation when reading than talking as a heads up :).

Ok so my voice gets really grainy after I stop sounding fem, and whenever I do sound fem am always stuck in the andro ranges. I have tried forcing it into the high fem range but it always sounds choppy and weird.

(Ignore the start I was just trying to tune the recording app)
