miscellaneous The extremely small print loophole.

SpongeBob SquarePants-Pickles:If a customer is unsatisfied with their order (such as claiming a Krabby Patty is missing its pickles), they are entitled to a $2.00 full refund. Bubble Bass uses this guarantee by falsely claiming SpongeBob forgot the pickles on his complex order.

The Middle-Heck on a Hard Body:Sue Heck enters an endurance contest at Ehlert Motors where contestants must keep their hand on a car to win it, only to learn after winning that the prize was actually a trip to Disney World.

The Middle one is funny when you realize it's an ABC show and a lot of ABC shows had the characters go to Disney World for some reason.

I think Disney owns ABC

They do. Which is clever or lazy for them to advertise their theme parks in shows millions of people watched. Roseanne did it and Modern Family did it.

They did it with Full House! Which really deep with their crossover. While the girls are in Disney, they see an Aladdin show, and DJ thought she saw Steve in the Aladdin show, portraying Aladdin - Steve was also Aladdin's Voice Actor.

Modern Family actually filmed on-site in Disneyland

Family Matters too.

And Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

They do. Eisner started mandating ABC shows have Disney World episodes after he bought the network to cross promote the parks.

lol the whole show was them barely getting by and being close to poverty….but out of the blue they win a trip to Disney 😂

There’s also the family from Malcolm In The Middle who despite their income issues with 5 kids are able to go a vacation every year.

Ok, but their vacations aren't like other TV Family vacations. They went to a waterpark - where Lois had to lecture the boys that they aren't wealthy, and don't get to just take vacations easily. If they ruin a vacation, it's a big loss.

see it here.

I love how Lois climbed all the way back up the waterslide due to her sheer rage.

Yeah and it was the same with Roseanne. A family having trouble making ends meet but they spend the husband's last check from his job on a trip to Disney World.

I was informed of this by commentators of the upcoming Abbot Elementary Disney World episode.

Good ol'brand synergy.

In the second example, the victim should be able to sue them legally; they were engaging in deceptive advertising by putting the specifications in such small print that they are illegible, while the other part, "WIN A NEW CAR," is in large print. I'm not American, but at least in my country, legal action could be taken against them.

I’m surprised she didn’t just burn the place down.

Why go to jail when you can get money?

The most legendary instance was in The Fairly OddParents—specifically the episode "Wish Fixers"—where HP makes Timmy sign a contract containing clauses within clauses, to the point where a super-microscope is needed to see them!

Wasn’t this the episode where Timmy straight up wished for a lawyer to help him out?

60

u/AdWestern1561 13h ago

Nope. That episode was from the Norm the Genie episode, voiced by Norm MacDonald himself.

No, that was with norm. Where Timmy made norm give him the best lawyer to avoid norm twisting his wish

To out-scum a genie, yes

3

u/Loose_Ad_3964 13h ago

I believe that was with Norm the genie but that same lawyer might have popped up again

If Shrek Forever After counts when using the exit clause. Donkey told Shrek he has to fold the contract like an origami to find the secret fine print when it used to be saying Rumpelstiltskin's name, but everyone already knows him.

Ferengi Rule of Acquisition #8 - Small Print Leads to Huge Risk.

Captain Freeman does this to Grand Nagas Rom in the Lower Decks episode "Parth Ferengi's Heart Place" by agreeing to all of the crazy demands Admiral Vassery were made to add so that Ferenginar can join the Federation AND a hefty latinum bonus upon getting a planet to join the Federation with them. Freeman tells him and his wife Leeta should read the fine print, revealing that the planet they need to recruit is Qo'nos, the Klingon Homeworld, a planet that would never join the Federation willingly.

For context, its the equivalent of the Soviet Union offering to give Latvia dozens of mega perks for joining as long as they could convince a single city to join the Soviet Union.

With the small print that that city has to be Washington DC.

I'm probably (definitely) dating myself here, but does anyone else remember 8-Bit Theater? And Thief's super ultra fine print? Oh, by the way you owe him a quarter just for reading it.

On The Venture Brothers, The Monarch runs into this working with another villain, Monstroso. He's a very litigious villain, and the deal he wrote up for the Monarch arching Dr Venture would result in him talking everything they both own.

I wanna see this meet realistic outcomes and have someone plainly state that print so small it is illegible without special tools has no legal binding as the contractual partners could not be expected to read and thus understand it.

You can tell that’s an early episode of SpongeBob, because Mr. Krabs would NEVER. Heck, by the movie he was literally rigging prices so King Neptune would have to pay more.

I mean tbf, these days, any Disneyland trip is about as expensive as a new car (outside of Tokyo Disneyland for some reason)
