Culture & Society Why would anyone choose a religion as scary as Christianity (and other Abrahamic ones)?

• Upvotes

Apocalypse, hell, sin, many tales of God's wrath in the Bible. Countless rules. Confessionaries to relieve you of the guilt (after some punishment.) I'd rather a religion that doesn't make me anxious all the time, really.

Culture & Society Is America really as racist to Indians as social media is making it seem?

• Upvotes

Maybe it’s just what’s being pushed to me on my feed, but it seems like the Indias in America hate is getting worse and worse. I was born here and my husband is white, so I am probably not as discriminated against. Is those fresh off the boat with that said, I definitely look Indian and so do our children.
Is the hate as bad as the media is making it seem?

Politics What's the point of being racist in a 99% white country?

• Upvotes

Namely half of the EU countries. I get that racism exists everywhere, but seeing people in overwhelmingly white countries obsess over race, immigrants and racial purity is kinda wild. Who exactly are you competing with? Are you really that bothered by the tiny minority of non-white people living there?

Without fail, they literally all ask. It’s actually annoying like what difference does it make 🙄

Edit: this is for hooking up only. Not for dating or anything outside of the bedroom lol

Sex Attraction to... holes?! NSFW

I (20 cis F) have noticed that as soon as i hit puberty i was the total opposite of all my freinds.

It started with me noticing that I like mine subbmissive but also just as masculine/smart/athletic/brave as me. I also began catching crushes on the same gender. But then it quickly escalated to being completely turned off by male physiques/faces and even the d.

I have noticed however that there seems to be this mental glitch where i am attracted to ehm ...uhm h*les and being in them (sexually and conscensually ofc). I however, unlike all the woman iv met, have zero interest in ever putting anything up my own. But always very interested in things being the other way around.

To make this all weirder 😭 (im really sorry). It seems like a mental fixation where i have not a single drop of interest in any man not even socially nor platonically...unless i want to be in them (they probably resemble my type in women some way).

(I also only became attracted to V last year and my brain has not stopped flashing me with imagery ever since )

I get wet dreams often and they all revolve around well...u guessed it-

Im aware that this is called being a stone dom top in the lgtbq community. Im just looking to see if anyone here has had a similar thing going on. Do most men get this too? If ur a woman or a man how did this manifest growing up regardless of ur sexuality/religion/upbringing?

Health/Medical Why does my toe begin to twitch when I wiggle it?

So, sometimes when I wiggle my toe, it just goes crazy and starts twitching, I don't know why, it just kinda freaks me out and makes me a tad worried. Is it just my muscle? Or is it something more serious?

Love & Dating Is it over if you’re still a virgin at 26?

To cut to the chase, I lived in a violent home environment growing up. It made me only focus on school as a means to escape my family life in poverty. I was super shy and isolated from others my age. That and I was just never really taught by my parents on how to talk to girls. My parents overall just weren’t the best role models in multiple ways. I came close to relationships several times around age 16-17, but things always fell apart due to my social awkwardness.

Fast forward to today, and finally I have my own place and job, but I’m currently living in the Midwest (Iowa) where the dating pool is pretty much nonexistent. For my type that is. I work in a predominantly male field (engineering), and don’t have any social network from high school or college. I had to balance work and school for years. All I have now really are coworkers, and most of those relationships are pretty superficial.

My plans short term are to try and move somewhere better with better weather and more to do. I could try dating apps, but I’m simply not attractive enough to find any real success with those. Thus, my only option is in person gatherings. But I need a change of scenery first, which is what I’m shooting for rn.

Still, it’s really tough being single at 26 these days. Pretty much everyone my age is already experienced. Whenever the topic of sex comes around I always feel alienated. I have several friends who seem to look down on me for still being single.

Just wanting to hear from other late bloomers out there who may have also not had the chance to experience “young love” in their teens and early 20s. Thank you.

Mental Health Do you ever get the feeling that you can’t access your thoughts and they are separated from your body?

I’ve noticed in the past years of my life that my brain fog has gotten worse and my thoughts are harder to track or manage. I used to have an “internal voice” that would kind of voice over my thoughts but I don’t get that anymore, I just know what I’m thinking about. I used to have thoughts constantly but now most of the time it feels like my mind is blank. It feels like my body is disconnected from my thoughts and I’m always thinking about something but can’t lay a finger on what it is. When I’m doing something like cleaning my mind is also blank. When I’m walking in the streets I’m zoned out and deep in though but I DONT KNOW WHAT IM THINKING ABOUT 🆘. People notice that I zone out sometimes and when I realise that I am I don’t understand why. I’m struggling with mental health slightly and I’m trying to understand my thoughts to explain them to my therapist but once again I DONT
KNOW WHAT I’M THINKING ABOUT. It’s like I’m thinking about nothing and everything at the same time and my thoughts decided to separate from the rest of me. They are living their own life. Is this normal, am I just overthinking this?

Media Why do online indie communities attract so many neurodivergent people?

I do know in general the internet has a higher percentage of ND's since I think they're more likely to spend more screentime than usual?

I specifically notice this with the rise of indie shows on YouTube. Why is this the case?

Sex Anyone ever fantasized about hooking up with an older coworker? NSFW

I'm in my early 30s and there's this petite Asian coworker about 5–7 years older who's super quiet and reserved. Idk why, but the thought of bringing out her wild side is such a turn on lol. My fantasy is her being so into me that she's sneaking off during lunch to give me head and can't get enough of it.

Habits & Lifestyle Why do really fat people not park in spots further away from other cars?

This sounds bad, I know. But at the end of the day, I’ve physically watched someone who is fat and struggling to get into their car (already squeezing themselves in as it is between cars), hit my car door getting into their car. And to people who aren’t fat and hit peoples doors - be more mindful when you’re opening your door!!! I now park very far away from everyone after seeing this, but it’s really annoying!!

Other Are male only gyms a good idea or bad idea?

There is a perceived double standard regarding gender-segregated fitness centers. While women-only gyms are widely accepted as necessary safe spaces, male-only gyms are often criticized as exclusionary or sexist. This raises the question: why is the male desire for a dedicated environment—free from potential social friction or accusations—not afforded the same legitimacy?

Culture & Society In the US, why do blue collar people seem so angry and mean all of the time?

I know it's a stereotype, but my friends and I were talking about how often we've encountered it from mechanics, electricians, construction workers, etc. I mean no offense but genuinely am curious.

Interpersonal How do you interpret my coworker‘s question about my fiancé and me ?

About seven months ago, I (30f) ran into a colleague in the canteen whom I hadn’t seen for six months. She asked me how I was doing and how things were going in the city where I live with my fiancé (34m). I said that everything was fine. Then she asked, “Are you still together?”

I was really surprised and reacted by saying, “Yeah? Why?” She then explained that it wasn’t as if she had heard anything, but that sometimes things change.

I spent a long time wondering why she would ask me that, but I couldn’t come up with any explanation.

Yesterday, seven months later, she asked me about our wedding plans, what I was going to wear, whether I was excited, and so on. Then she said that some couples don’t make it to the wedding because they break up beforehand but she‘s happy if people make it.

Now I find myself constantly thinking about it again, wondering what she meant and whether she was trying to hint at something.

I tend to overthink and overanalyse things, so I’d be interested to hear how you would interpret these two conversations. Would it be strange if I used yesterday’s conversation as an opportunity to ask her what she meant when she asked me that question? I’d have to message her on Teams, as I probably won’t see her in person for a while.

Education & School If you're an academic/researcher, how do you feel about people not in academia reaching out with questions about your field of study?

Not sure if this belongs here or if this would be better suited to a sub on manners/propriety.

I have a lot of questions about various things that I would love to ask people who are knowledgeable about [insert topics] and dig into their metaphorical libraries and bibliographies just because I am curious about things. However, I am also someone who is terrified at accidentally committing a social faux pas or breaking--often undeclared--social rules.

Is it okay/socially acceptable to just like call or email researchers or academics with questions about things that they are studying or researching?

Or rather more specifically, if you are an academic or research student how would you personally feel or think of people just reaching out to you to ask you about things in your field? Annoyed? Amused? Excited? Something else?
