Rant Getting shifts covered
is it a bad thing to get shifts covered? i’ve been working at tjmaxx for a few months now and ive had to get a couple shifts covered, ive never called out, and i only get someone to cover it when its an emergency. i constantly see the same few people in our group chat asking for people to cover their shifts, especially last minute.
i called and told them someone would be covering my shift on sunday. this would be the third or fourth time i’ve had someone cover for me, other than that i am working almost 20 hours a week.
the manager took forever to acknowledge me on the phone because she was laughing and joking with another employee and when i tell her that i’m getting my shifts covered she goes “okay that’s fine, also i noticed you’re getting shifts covered a lot, do you still want to work here?” the way she said it wasn’t in a way of concern it definitely felt like if i needed a shift covered again that i would be fired despite older employees calling out of an eight hour shift almost always in the gc.
it really rubbed me the wrong way and i’m not sure how to feel. they should know i want to work there as i’ve been very vocal about loving it and ive called managers when i got those shifts covered and let them know it was because i was having an emergency. one time i was stuck in a different state due to car troubles and got my shift covered and i said that in the group chat which three of the managers are in!!! but they still questioned my reasoning for getting that shift covered.
it kind of sucks because ive loved tjmaxx so far and ive covered peoples shifts quite often but when i dont work they treat me weirdly.
another thing that rubbed me the wrong was was when i was working in my department w another employee and she tells me “hey word of advice be careful of everyone here and watch what you say because even though you don’t think it, someone else is always listening” and hearing that literally sent a shiver down my spine.
