Rant Getting shifts covered
is it a bad thing to get shifts covered? iāve been working at tjmaxx for a few months now and ive had to get a couple shifts covered, ive never called out, and i only get someone to cover it when its an emergency. i constantly see the same few people in our group chat asking for people to cover their shifts, especially last minute.
i called and told them someone would be covering my shift on sunday. this would be the third or fourth time iāve had someone cover for me, other than that i am working almost 20 hours a week.
the manager took forever to acknowledge me on the phone because she was laughing and joking with another employee and when i tell her that iām getting my shifts covered she goes āokay thatās fine, also i noticed youāre getting shifts covered a lot, do you still want to work here?ā the way she said it wasnāt in a way of concern it definitely felt like if i needed a shift covered again that i would be fired despite older employees calling out of an eight hour shift almost always in the gc.
it really rubbed me the wrong way and iām not sure how to feel. they should know i want to work there as iāve been very vocal about loving it and ive called managers when i got those shifts covered and let them know it was because i was having an emergency. one time i was stuck in a different state due to car troubles and got my shift covered and i said that in the group chat which three of the managers are in!!! but they still questioned my reasoning for getting that shift covered.
it kind of sucks because ive loved tjmaxx so far and ive covered peoples shifts quite often but when i dont work they treat me weirdly.
another thing that rubbed me the wrong was was when i was working in my department w another employee and she tells me āhey word of advice be careful of everyone here and watch what you say because even though you donāt think it, someone else is always listeningā and hearing that literally sent a shiver down my spine.

Question Thinking about moving....
I'm a coordinator in California and the dress code is exceptionally lax. Currently rocking 5 facial piercings (both nostrils, septum, snakebites). Thinking about moving back home to North Carolina to be closer to family or with a friend in Georgia and wanted to see if that would be a potential problem regarding a transfer.

Customer lost it over a recalled (ugly) sweater
Lady comes up with a sweater. We scan it. Computer says to pull it off the floor because of a product safety recall. Okay, cool, so we let the customer know we can't sell it.
This lady lost her marbles.
"I shop at Marshalls all the time this has never happened to me it was on the floor why didn't you just take it off that's lazy this doesn't make any sense is there anyone else I can speak to let me take a picture of the sweater hand it to me I'm not gonna steal it!"
Ma'am, you're going apeshit trying to buy a recalled item. You've already demonstrated that you're not right in the head, so no, there's absolutely no way in letting you hold the sweater to take a picture when you can do that perfectly fine over the counter.
Acting like a damn child over an ugly, ugly sweater. Stick a fork in me because I am so fucking done.

Question What are the general guidelines for employees dressing up for Halloween?
Typically I don't dress up for Halloween, but I figured this year I'll have some fun with it.
I'm at a HomeGoods...if that makes any difference.
Do we need to wear the aprons? I feel like it may clash with my "costume"

Any tips for going into stores and handing in your resume?
Iām planning on going to a bunch of locations I applied to and submitting my resume, any tips, good times to go, what to ask? Anything will help!!!
Is there even any point in going or will my resume be thrown out?
Should I call beforehand?

How do I get full time?
Iāve been working part time for about two months and recently a manager told me about a full time position that just opened up. I thought I had to apply to it but I couldnāt find it on the app so I brought it up a few days later and apparently Iām already on the schedule to be interviewed. the problem is Iām terrible at interviews and they told me theyād just pull me aside one day so I wonāt know in advance.
one Of my managers told me they would ask simple questions like why do you want the job, what are your plans for the future, and what zone do you like working in.
i really just want the job because I need full time work and I canāt find anywhere else. I like all my co workers and I like reorganizing things on the shelfās, itās like a puzzle to me. For the future one I plan on going to school next year in a different city. Iām worried they wonāt want to hire me if I tell them I plan on leaving though..and the zone, I donāt really care.
if Iām not able to get full time Iāll have to leave as soon as I can find another job, I donāt want to deal with two part time jobs. And I donāt want to leave. Iād like to actually stay and build something of myself, get better at things and such.
I hope this reads okay, Iām anxious and scatterbrained at the moment. I know a lot of us come here to complain about the job, but the only real thing I have an issue with is the lack of consistent hours.
at least one of my coworkers said management seems to lack me because they keep calling me in or asking me to stay late. thatās a good sign I guess.
edit: I got pulled in to do the interview today And I think it went pretty bad. They didnāt ask me any of the questions they said they wouldāgranted it was a different manager doing the interview. It was a lot of the broad questions that I can never think of answers for. I didnāt really get to talk about anything. so that sucks.
thank you all for the advice though!

Inventory between US and Canada
Hey all! I live in Toronto, Canada where we have HomeSense stores instead of HomeGoods. From what I understand, they are both TJ Maxx companies? Does anyone know if the inventory is shared? Will Canadian stores get similar shipments? Or are they different suppliers/buyers, etc for the Canadian market? Thanks!

Need some advice
Im a cashier and submitted a schedule request in early October to take about a week off in December so I could care for a family member, but my request was denied. Is there anyway I can talk to the store manager into letting my time get approved or should I just accept my fate?

Question Transfer from Marshalls to Tj Maxx
I'm transferring from Marshalls to Tj Maxx, both cashier positions. Are there any big differences that I need to know about or is it pretty similar?

Question Question about termination.
Title. I was just terminated from TJMaxx for associate theft. Stupid mistake and I have to pay restitution (no law enforcement involved, they said nothing leaves the room).
I am now more concerned about my ability to apply to jobs/colleges. Can I list TJ on my resume as past experiences (obviously not as a reference just a small point?), similarly can I list it as an extracurricular when applying to colleges?
Will TJ provide details about me being fired/tell them I was fired, or just confirm the dates of employment and position.

Rant something sorta odd happened when I called homegoods for a follow up on my job application
Yeah, so I put in an application for HomeGoods 12 days ago, and I didnāt get any response back, so I decided to call today at 10 am to speak to the hiring manager. So, when I called a girl answered, and I asked to speak to the store hiring manager. They said sure and put me on hold until some guy answered. I asked for a follow-up on my job application and they just asked me if I had open availability. I said yes, and they also asked if I had retail experience. I said no, and then he just asked for my name and told me to call back at 3 pm today.
So, time skip to 3 pm I call HomeGoods again and they tell me that the hiring manager isnāt here today. I was confused because I thought I spoke to them earlier today and I said, āWell, this morning, some guy picked up my call that was on hold for the hiring manager.ā
To be honest, I made a mistake by not asking the person I was talking to this morning for their name. I was just so nervous to call for a follow up and I wasnāt really thinking. But anyways, we were both confused trying to figure out who the hell I was talking to because they said the hiring managers are all women, and they usually donāt have applicants call back because the hiring process is online. So, they found that odd.
Then, they asked for my name and just said thereās no guarantee Iām gonna get called back because they just pick people with open availability and the most retail experience.
Now, Iām just feeling sorta weird and confused about this whole situation and feeling regretful for not asking that guyās name. š

Credit Cards Sadly Entertaining
Iāve just started working at TJ Maxx. This is not my first retail job. Iāve worked at Burlington and JCPenney previously. Iāve picked up this job as a side gig on the weekends, with a full time job M-F.
Itās been entertaining to observe and over hear other associates selling the cards like their life depends on it (hopefully) knowing theyāll get nothing in return for it. I do the bare minimum and ask at the beginning of the transaction, but donāt bother pushing because the pay is not worth it and Iām not getting anything in return for it.
This is just my fun little twist into surviving being up front cashiering.

Question Question about online orders?
Okay, I know this is a long shot but I placed an order online and it supposedly never shipped. Iāve gone back and forth with FedEx and customer support. CS is saying they shipped almost 2 weeks ago but FedEx is saying they never received a package. Is there any hope that Iāll get this thing? There were a few items in there that I was really looking forward to that are no longer available so I canāt repurchase ā¹ļø
Has this happened to anyone else and if so, did you ever get your lost package? Many thanks in advance!

Is it normal to sign up for the credit card and the 10% off coupon doesn't work?
Signed up for this card specifically to get 10% off online. They sent me an email with a code, but it says it's invalid when I enter it.
Reached out to TJmaxx, they told me they don't have anything to do with it, call the cc company.
Call them, they tell me they have nothing to do with the coupon codes, and I have to call Tjmaxx. I'm like, you can't just issue me a new one? Nope. You have to call Tjmaxx. I said, this makes no sense.. I signed up for this just for the code. Why can't you send me a new one? She hung up on me.
Call Tjmaxx again, and they tell me I can only use it in store. It's not valid online. I said.. then why does it say in the email I can use it online and it has a code? She hung up on me.
Call the credit card a second time and they tell me they can only snail mail me a new one in 10 days.
So I tried to confirm I could use the new code online, and she got very upset with me and was like, NO! I can only send you one in the mail that will arrive in 7-10 days. I'm like.. I understand.. but can I use the code online?
30.49% interest on this card is absolute insanity when they treat you like garbage when you sign up for it.

Question About Compatible Earpiece
Is there anyone in this group who can give me any suggestions? So Iām 38. I was diagnosed with bilateral hearing loss and itās du to nonstop tinnitus in both of my ears. So back in February after I had another hearing test my ENT suggested I get hearing aids. I was wondering if thereās any kind of earpiece f the walkies that our store uses that is compatible with the type of hearing aids that I wear. And if there is one how do I go about getting one? Do I talk to a manager? Do I talk to the district manager or HR?

Dreading the Holidays
Our backroom is packed with processed clothes ready for the floor. Unfortunately there is no room to put anything. We are dealing with menās clothing but itās everything, womenās, active, kids, juniors
Weāre to the point where we have no racks to hang in the backroom. Theyāre filled with processed clothes. Weāve used up every rounder and H-rack we have. Weāre getting broken hangers back from the floor because everything is packed so tight.
Itās not even the holidays yet!!! Anyone else dealing with this??
