Discussion Anyone else starting to really dislike Lucy? Spoiler

Been rewatching The Rookie and I think I’ve finally had to put Lucy in the worst character category.
The first few seasons I actually didn’t mind her, but from around S5 onwards I’ve found her character increasingly annoying. By S7, I’m honestly struggling to enjoy any of her storylines.

And the whole Seth situation? I put a lot of that on Lucy and Wade. Giving someone with no TO training a brand-new rookie was asking for trouble. I don’t really understand how that decision was supposed to work out well for anyone.

At this point, I’d genuinely rather watch Doug or Smitty. They’re arguably more interesting characters to me, and at least their scenes can be entertaining or interesting without constantly irritating me 😂

I know I’m definitely not the only one who feels this way either. I’ve seen quite a few people say the same thing, so I’m curious what everyone else thinks.

Discussion The Argentina Stuff Spoiler

The writing on this show isn't top class and I like this show as casual viewing rather than a top TV show. However....

The writing for the Argentina stuff in Season 6 is SO BAD it feels like a parody of The Rookie even though it isn't.

Discussion Chenford Spoiler

Hi guys,
So I was rewatching The Rookie recently and I have a different feeling about the Chenford breakup in s6. Like when I first watched when it came out I was super bummed. I had been watching since s2 so the whole slow burn had got to me and I was legit so happy when they finally got together in s5. But on rewatch the breakup just felt like a half baked plot. So hear me out, after Tim and Lucy get together in s5 we see them all in love and happy together. Granted there were some issues regarding Lucy going undercover but they got through them and were actually going strong. Then they introduce the whole Ray Watkins storyline out of the blue and now Tim is so agonised that he breaks up with the woman he loves so much over something that happened years ago. It just didn’t sit right with me. Isn’t Tim the protector(even his mom says so) so why would he intentionally hurt Lucy who is innocent in all this? If they really like really wanted to breakup the couple I believe Lucy should have broken up with Tim. She could have said that he is emotionally guarded and doesnt communicate with her and what not. Then it would have made sense for Tim to work on himself in therapy and then them getting back together. I feel like the writers just wanted to keep the fandom anticipating like a will they won’t they situation. The fans were happy that their favourite couple finally got together so the writers broke them up so the fans were still waiting for them to get back together.
Anyways that’s my rambling about the whole Chenford breakup. Let me know if this makes sense or any other opinions you might have.

Discussion Need more Nyla Spoiler

I absolutely adore the Nyla/Lopez duo, however I would love to get more solos Nyla. As a viewer, I feel short of any tangible development of Nyla beyond her relationship issues with James. He is not a favorite of mine but I think it’s very disappointing that her character arcs have been so sidelined in recent seasons.

(If you don’t have the ability to think critically pls do not comment 😭)

Discussion Am I the only one who likes the true crime episodes? Spoiler

They aren't exactly my favorites, but I enjoy watching them—I certainly don't hate them like so many others do. I also don't get why they're so hated, EXCEPT for the undercover storyline with Lucy and Harper. Otherwise, they're actually pretty cool.

Discussion My unpopular opinions Spoiler

James isn’t a bad character, or even flawed, in my opinion. In fact, I think he’s a great character in terms of what he brings. I understand that hearing a character constantly complain can be a bit annoying, but that’s why I feel his dynamic with Nyla isn’t bad: it allows his frustrations about cops to be mixed in with his feelings for someone he loves.

Wesley and Lopez are probably the best on-screen couple. I understand they aren’t the most popular, but their naturalness and authenticity make them the best couple in the show for me.

For me, Aaron was better than anyone else in the rookie role. I think the whole idea of him being very wealthy and having been through the prison system helped him understand things much more quickly and better than the other rookies in the show.

Discussion Unpopular Opinion: Smitty caused serious issues Spoiler

During the wildfire episode, Seth was overwhelmed with the number of calls. Smitty was tasked with color coding the map. He put it out in black and white. When Seth asked him to redo it, he just asks Seth whether he's still a rookie and walks away. People were literally burning to death but Smitty's dedication to not doing his job was more important.

In that episode where Grey gets attacked because he was a witness. If Smitty had done his job properly and started attending people at the front desk, Nolan would have had enough time to reach that guy who was murdered. He died because Smitty didn't do his job!!!

Season 2 Smitty

S2 Ep3…. He’s supposed to be comic relief but there a moments you see him display keen insight and genuinely care. Something tells me he was a helluva cop before burning out. I would like to have seen who he was early in his career and what triggered the change.

Discussion I feel like if I had been cast in this show I would have slowly lost the fact I was acting and would just make random arrests? Spoiler

Like do you think the cast ever feels like that like they forget they're actors and just go knock on doors and saying they're lapd?

OTHER My Hot takes-excited for s9 Spoiler

The first season of the rookie isn't bad it's just not as good as the later seasons.

like compared to the other ones (minus 6), it's lacking, but the season on it's own, is not bad.

I like Talia. Is she the best character ever? No, but she's not that bad.Same with Rachel.

(I'm gonna get flamed) Chenford is a good couple, not a great one.

Out of all the partners Lucy's had, tim is def the best one, but their only together cause the ship was popular... and I can tell.

I like them, but it was just... I no longer like my current partner(which I'll blame the writing for that). I just wish there was more of a buildup.

Also, people overlooked season 1 tim cause of chenford. I know he had a lot going on, but still, it's a reason, not an excuse.

Is bailey there too much? yes, does she pmo sometimes? Yes, I don't hate her, tho cause at least she can admit she was wrong(nowhere near my fav, tho)

I don't mind rodge and Dash, but they are not needed. I kinda like rodge. Don't care for Dash.

Season 4 s4 ep 22 Spoiler

this was by far the most ridiculous season finale so far in the show. the chenford lookalike storyline was so stupid (although appreciated them finally kissing) and nolan and his ‘magically phenomenal at everything except painting’ gf single-handedly taking down 20 guys with machine guns…. oh ok fully believable
