Edge has announced 2027 will be his final year as a Professional Wrestler and looks to claim the AEW World Title before all is said and done!
Do you guys want Edge to have a retirement tour similar to Cena? One more World title run? Since he never lost the belt in 2011 when he had to retire the first time? 👀

It's crazy I'm on my mid 30s now and there's still dudes from my childhood knocking around wrestling. It's super cool but will be sad when that last domino falls. Seems to happen almost every year now

u/BobSacamano_1 7h ago
I’m 49 and feel the same. I feel like Rey, Jericho, Edge, and Christian may be the final 3.

u/DrTeufelskerl 7h ago
How Rey's knees/hips aren't jello ill never know. I turned 40 this year, cant imagine how much pain these guys go through.

If you feel like crap at 40 you aren't taking care of yourself.
5
u/Nathaniel56_ 5h ago
Yep. I was feeling awful at 24 from a physical labor job I was doing but I started eating and sleeping better along with working out everyday, I feel great now. Note to fellow young people, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELVES IN YOUR 20’S!!

Fuckkk.. Orton as well. My childhood is dying.

u/purplesocks- 6h ago
genuinely makes me want to cry. i’m just glad they’ve been going for as long as they have.
1
u/Nathaniel56_ 5h ago
I know man. Felt like one minute I was 6 coming home from school and going straight to my tv to watch Smackdown, raw, or tna and the next minute I turned 25.
2
u/BrokeRda 3h ago
Are those three all on aew? I think ima start watching it because I’m in my mid 30s too nd don’t want to later wish I had watched these guys while I still could. I haven’t watched wrestling in many years

I've got a poster from WWE magazine that has a locker room shot of all the major stars on the roster at the time. (2008). All but Edge have retired, some like Umaga have passed. Time flies way too quick

u/fadingstar52 6h ago
At 31 seeing John cena retire hit me like damn that’s really my whole childhood as a wrestling fan.

I just thought to myself, "But wait no...I'm not done being sick of you, yet..." and I meant that and a sincere way. Like no, I'm not done bitching about you yet, dude....It's been 30ish years.

u/Full-Plankton-1750 7h ago
If your a fan of edge enjoy it every moment cause we losing our legend to time it waits on no man
7
u/TheBlackMafiaKing 7h ago
Another one bites the dust.
Sad to see Edge go, but I'm happy he got his 2nd run and he gets to go out on his own terms this time.
23
u/HerissonG 7h ago
Edge chasing the AEW championship and ultimately failing would make a great story. Even him winning could work but I'd prefer to see him come up short.

u/mindtoxicity27 7h ago
Given how few people he has put over… it’s unlikely he will not get it.
2
u/AssassinateOP 4h ago
ironically would work into him losing finally, hes beaten so many ppl, he thought he was on top of the world...except at the end he couldn't pull it off where it matters, unfortunately i also think he won't take that ending and will force a championship reign in
-2
u/TheBuffalo1979 7h ago
That’s weird
20
u/HerissonG 7h ago
Why?
Seeing the aging legend turn back the clock but ultimately falling short is high drama! He’s retiring because his time is up, winning the championship isn’t what a person who’s retiring does. Putting over the champion is what a pro wrestling company books.
3
u/hYBRYDcOBRA 7h ago
Because underdog stories are great. Ever seen the Rocky movies?
4
u/HerissonG 6h ago
I’ve seen them all, 4 and 5 in the theatre. Look if they booked Edge to win there’s a way to do it and have it work but even if it does seeing the aging legend take the champion to the limit but ultimately succumbing to Father Time is better.

u/ericks932 6h ago
Depends on the what and why if he wins. What would it mean to him? And why? simple. Seeing him come up short just reconfirms for everyone he should retire. which works as closure for some or a stir in others... "What would edge do on his final run?" "Why didn't they give him the belt?" questions like that. The issue with the recent retirement stories are they were usually null or invalid. Usually because of a shocking return or a "One last match" arc. I mean a person can come from retirement but who knows with this one.

u/B1TCA5H 4h ago
If this man wants to win a world title before hanging up his boots? Fine by me. If he wants to go out putting over a younger talent? That's also fine by me as well.
I'd say, let the man decide. He's already had to cut his career short, but now, he can pretty much go out on his own terms, and not many people are fortunate enough to have that opportunity.
5
u/Chrisg_322 6h ago
I respect how honest he is, because the first thing I noticed was how badly his face aged lol
13
u/scroogechamp 6h ago
This implies Edge looks inside teenage boys rooms to make sure there arent any posters of him hanging up.
9
u/arcamenoch 6h ago
Edge, seeing an Attitude Era poster of himself in a sleeping teenager's room: "You think you know me?"
8
5
u/Professional-Kale432 6h ago
Hahahahaha. This made me chuckle so hard!
3
u/scroogechamp 6h ago
I just imagine him checking, finger tips on the windowsill. Sees no poster of him and just goes "ohh..." and sadly climbs back down.

u/Rogpog777 6h ago
Thank you Cope. Thank you Edge. You got yours back and you’re leaving on your own two feet with a beautiful life ahead.
3
u/Centerman2000 Too old to care, too young to retire 5h ago
Nothing makes you feel your age quite like watching a legend who is younger than you announce his retirement. I know pro wrestling miles are way different than regular miles and he’s more than earned the rest after wrecking his body for us for so many years.

u/cylestyle 5h ago
I was a little disappointed when he returned to WWE and never won the Championship that he never lost, its crazy that he came back for several years when I thought he never would
5
u/Ok_Chemical_7623 4h ago
Ive been the biggest Edgehead since I can remember this absolutely breaks my heart. But I understand why he's doing it. I feel like he's pretty much accomplished everything he wanted, dude was never supposed to wrestle again. Came back had a great run in WWE and then went into AEW to have a new page to write for his experiences. He's enjoying every minute of this, he can actually go out on his own terms this time around.

I always thought that after his last match in WWE against Sheamus would be his retirement match, and he would spend time with his family at that point. I understand why he went to AEW for fresh competition and being with his long time friend. 2027 I do hope he captures one more championship in his memoir 👌

I was glad when Adam (Edge) came back in the Royal Rumble in 2020, but at the same time, you never wanna extend your welcome past the expiration date. Both Adam and Christian have given that squared circle everything they could give it and then a lot extra. I think it's time to let those boys go off into that Canadian Sunset.👏🏿👍🏿

Poor edge looking out into the crowd. Hoping for anyone to pop or care.

After the backlash of cena losing his final match I can see edge winning it.

I was absolutely pumped about his return to WWE. Only watched a match or two of his in AEW. Hated the name Cope. Hopefully he stays healthy in ‘27 and goes out on his terms.

Bout time he goes for the belt. Anybody who say people don't want the belt in any promotional isn't serious.
1
u/bethepositivity 1h ago
I mean it's amazing he even got the last 6 years. I'm happy for him. It's best to end your career on your own terms

Good on him. Injuries happen more frequently at this age, he's not as quick in ring as he was, and if he wants to have a somewhat normal life after pro wrestling this is an obvious move.

Orton and Jericho are the last 2 after he goes. Wonder who goes first out of those two.
7
u/TBar1212 7h ago
You still have Rey Mysterio

u/cygamessucks 7h ago
I like Rey but hes nowhere near the level of legend the other two are. Hes been a part timer since 2010

u/phantomnodanny 6h ago
rey is the bigger household name, also more internationally recognized. nice try on the rage bait tho.

u/Historical_Case_7269 6h ago
Part-timer since 2010? Did you miss his entire 2011 WWE title run, his Lucha Underground stint, and his full-time return to WWE for the last six years?
1
u/mexican_ninja19 6h ago
The guy is a casual clearly, in the last 6 years Roman who is 10 years younger than Rey has had about 50ish matches meanwhile Rey has had 230+ matches in that same time span
1
u/MrAdministration 3h ago
And also “legend” is relative. Ask any Mexican wrestler around the world about Rey Mysterio and that guy is the fucking GOAT to them.
1
u/mexican_ninja19 3h ago
Doesn’t even have to be Mexican, 90% of any wrestler in general will say Rey Mysterio is the greatest luchadore of all time
1
u/thomaslilfan 1h ago
Asian guy right here, I remember when Japan was advertising a smoothie shake somewhere back from 2010 to 2012 sponsored by WWE, these are the four most known WWE superstars on the ad pic, it was John Cena Rey Mysterio Randy orton and the undertaker. Edge Jericho was nowhere near Rey’s popularity worldwide.
1

u/Nathaniel56_ 7h ago
Definitely Orton, Jericho wants one last wwe run. I can see Orton just hanging it up next year
1
u/CrashDaddy2006 6h ago
Retirement tour like Cena? Bruh. That was the most stupid shit WWE could have pulled.
AEW knows how to send someone out proper. Look at what was done with Sting.
AEW will handle this infinitely better than WWE could ever hope to.
2
u/Puzzled_Talk8399 5h ago
Is Bryan D officially done too? He hinted he would come back. Know he did a few face cameos.
1
u/Glass_Champion 54m ago
I think he would hop in a ring in a heartbeat but his injuries caught up to him to the point he's facing not just pain but potentially worse
1
u/Glass_Champion 50m ago
I was thinking the same. Instinct is they pin the title on him and have a farewell tour type thing. Doesn't feel special.
I guess the subvert expectations move would be to try, try and try and come up short before not getting it at all.
Those are two extremes so I can see it being something in the middle and some great "finish the story" type heroics

I haven’t watched current wrestling in a very long time, mostly i watch my old tapes from the 80’s - 90’s and the dvds so it shocks me when i see someone like Edge looking like a grayed old man.
1
u/BarTraditional9164 6h ago
I like AEW, but why are the fans so somber here? Lol like dude is old. It’s not that much left to do here. He had a new lease on life for some years now and got to do a lot more than ever expected. What else??

Super happy he was able to return and end his career on his terms. Absolute Canadian legend!! 🇨🇦

u/No_Elevator_735 6h ago
Entitled audience members chanting "no" at a wrestler retiring at well after a reasonable age. Is seeing more Edge matches until the end of time more important than his health and family?
3
u/BD_McNasty 5h ago
Im fairly sure its more of a respect thing like nooo we dont wanna see you go. Im sure it makes him feel damn good seeing everyone be "upset" at him hanging it up. Any true fans understand that hes done more than enough and this is the right decision.
