News A free press is not a favor from those in power. It is a check on them, and the courts just reminded the White House of that.

A federal judge has blocked the White House from enforcing President Donald Trump's ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico while their lawsuit over the ban moves forward.

Judge Timothy Kelly, who was appointed by Trump himself, extended his earlier order late Tuesday night with a preliminary injunction. The three news organizations keep their access while the case is pending, unless an appeals court lifts the order. Trump has vowed to appeal.

The dispute began on Sept. 18, when Trump announced he was barring the outlets over the way they cover him. The next day, reporters who tried to enter the security checkpoint found their hard passes, the credentials that allow entry, had been deactivated. The outlets sued, and the judge first issued a temporary restraining order that forced the White House to restore passes for dozens of reporters and other staff.

In the new ruling, Kelly found the outlets are likely to succeed on a due process claim and on two separate First Amendment claims. He also pointed to the president's own public remarks, writing: "President Trump's own comments suggest that he intended the revocation of Plaintiffs' hard passes to alter their reporting on him."

The judge said the decision should not be read to mean Trump's concerns about accuracy and fairness in news coverage are baseless, or that the government has no power to act when its real goal is protecting national security from unlawful leaks of classified information.

Theodore Boutrous, the attorney for all three outlets, said: "The harm this ban did to our clients, the First Amendment, and the public as a whole is profound."

News Man Gets Divorced, Loses His Job, Then Wins $273 Million After Nearly Losing His Lottery Tickets

Post image

Talk about timing. Back in 2019, New Jersey man Mike Weirsky found himself unemployed and freshly divorced after 15 years of marriage. For years, his wife had been the breadwinner while he stayed at home, and the couple finalized their split in the fall of 2018. Just five months later, everything changed.

Mike bought a handful of Mega Millions tickets at a local convenience store, then walked out and left them sitting on the counter. Luckily, an honest stranger spotted the tickets and handed them to the clerk. Mike came back the next day, picked them up, and later checked the numbers at home. He had matched every single one, winning a staggering $273 million jackpot.

At his press conference, Mike joked that he could hardly believe he’d finally won more than a couple of dollars after years of playing. His first plans were refreshingly down to earth: a new pickup truck for himself, a new car for his mom, and a remodel of her home. He also said he wanted to quietly thank the good Samaritan who returned his tickets.

His ex-wife said she wasn’t interested in getting back together, but she hoped he’d do the right thing considering how long she supported him.

News Four Republicans joined three Democrats to object. Should more lawmakers speak up when the law is at stake?

Seven senators from both parties agree on one thing: President Donald Trump's Russian diesel deal has to go.

On Sunday, the bipartisan group demanded that the administration "immediately reverse course" on a plan to buy diesel from Russia, a step offered as a way to ease high fuel prices.

The deal caught lawmakers off guard. On Friday, Trump announced on social media that a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin had produced an agreement. He said Russia would quickly supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel, then 500,000 tons in November, then 1 million tons soon after, and another 3 million tons after that.

The Republicans who signed the statement are Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Thom Tillis of North Carolina and John Curtis of Utah. The Democrats are Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Ron Wyden of Oregon. They say the administration failed to consult Congress or provide the explanation the law requires.

Their statement said the move to allow Russian diesel imports "runs directly counter to" the 2022 ban Congress passed on Russian energy imports. It added: "The United States should not provide Putin with a financial lifeline while Russia continues to kil! Ukrainian civilians."

Congress passed that ban so American money would not pay for the war in Ukraine. Only weeks ago, Congress also directed Trump to impose heavy tariffs on the top buyers of Russian oil or natural gas. Tillis said there is a legitimate case that the president is not following the law if the plan goes forward.

Senator John Barrasso, a Wyoming Republican, defended the president, saying Trump is focused on lowering energy costs. He also urged Trump to enforce the sanctions law Congress passed last month.
