Transport/Itineraries 12 day trip itinerary question

My (now) wife and I booked a trip to Thailand for our honeymoon at the end of December and are looking to relax on the beach, try local foods, see some sights, and squeeze in some culture.

We are currently flying into Phuket and out of Koh Samuii. Our original itinerary has us doing 3 nights in Phuket, 4 in Koh Lanta, and 5 in Koh Samuii. We've heard some things that maybe Koh Lanta is too quiet and we should skip it, or that Koh Samuii is too far and a weather risk at that time of year. Any more experienced opinions to settle our minds one way or another?

Why did you bracket ( now ) for wife? Are you planning on replacing her at some time in the future?

No plans to replace her! Having a wife is new to me, I'm still working out the kinks apparently

You are going to get very diverse responses on these 3 locations as people tend to either like or dislike them. Koh Lanta is certainly quieter than Phuket - but it’s got plenty to like about it. It’s not the place for nightlife and shopping- but that’s considered a plus by many people who like it. It’s definitely a good option for relaxing on the beach. Phuket is much busier, has a traffic problem and is very built up. End of December in Koh Samui should be fine weather wise. Or at least minimal rain. I’ve been there for Xmas and we had perfect weather every day. But that’s not an absolute guarantee obviously.

Check ferry and flight connections before dropping Koh Lanta, and keep a weather-flexible day on Samui.

Id keep Lanta, trim Phuket to two nights. Samui can be wet then but seldom all week. The cancellation cutoff I give to dEssence, something I've been building, so I know before free changes end.
