šŸ  Landlord Issue Is my landlord entitled to know where I move even after giving them a PO box address?

Im in the process of buying a house and will be giving my landlord 30 day notice. I was asked multiple times to let her know my new address when i move so she can send me anything I left behind.

I packed up everything, not a single thing left behind and had to get a PO box due to her opening and reading my mail in the past.

I told her, she can send it to my PO box. She said, the post office is too far(7min drive) and they dont accept certain items. Again, I told her i would have everything squared away. She is pushing on the subject. But im standing firm, I want my damn peace and quiet!

Iv lived with non-stop ceiling stomping for 5+yrs...

Update: for people asking about the deposit. I got it back today(cash) after my landlord took pictures and looked through the apartment. She was impressed with the cleanliness and my handiwork(patched prior moving in wall holes, replaced 33 ceiling tiles, regrounted bathroom and kitchen floors, carpet cleaned, and repainted) I was able to let my LL know that i am NOT required to give her my new address if I've paid the last of my rent and received my deposit. She googled her LL rights in front of me and saw that I was correct. I informed her that the area we live in does not give her the right to my updated personal information and that she is more than welcome to find the information online.

This all started after I she opened and read my mail 5 months ago and saw that I was started receiving SSI back pay. I informed her that i became disabled prior to receiving anything, but she took that as "i can now see what she makes monthy, so im going to raise the rent." She said she would raise the rent $600.00 when she renews my lease in 3/2027(yearly renewal). I told her that she could not go based off of my SSI backpay.

The apartment is not worth the amount she is asking and would need to be gutted due to mold exposure, and cat ammonia smell (LL fosters cats(20+) and cleans litter boxes 1x a week). I had to cut off internal A/C for 3yrs and use 2 air purifiers to maintain smell. I run 2 dehumidifiers daily for 15hrs to control high humidity. I have asked her for help regarding these issues for 4yrs now and she has told me to literally deal with it or would give me a bucket of "MOLD KILLING PAINT PRIMER" to repaint the walls if I started to see discoloration.... im beyond done with this bs.

šŸ  Landlord Issue Landlord claiming I’m violating CCR

I’m not sure if anyone remembers but now9 months into my 12mo lease my landlords suddenly decided that they don’t like that my work provides me with transportation. I am a salesman for a dealership and I drive new/fixed inventory to ensure it’s driving as it should or inventory cars that need miles put on them for various reasons. I drive on a dealer plate at all times and there is only ever 1 vehicle on the property at any given time. My landlords initially said to no inventory vehicles
On the property and that the tenant vehicles need to be registered with them. They also initally mentioned that they didn’t like the ā€œassortment.ā€ So I guess the fact that I drive a new car Almaty every day. Anyways, I emailed them every single make and model of the dealerships inventory, along with my plate number and said I would like to register all these vehicles with them. It seemed to be resolved. Now she comes to the front door with a paper, a ā€œlease violationā€ and it says ā€œā€¦.. we had a discussion in which I notified you that we have CCR's for this development which states that no business or business activities are allowed.ā€ I am not preforming any business activities. I am not selling or working on cars. I am simply drive the car my job tells me to drive. Furthermore, I contacted the city hall and they said my address is not under any CCR/HOA. I have a few more months here and need to manage until then. Buying a personal car simply because of my landlord is not in my budget right now. What do I do?

šŸ  Landlord Issue Need New Flooring in Middle of Lease (Indiana)

Indiana, USAI have lived in my apartment 4 years almost. Shortly after I moved in, the flooring started peeling up in 3 different places. These spots are a trip hazard.

After my last annual inspection, LL decides I need new flooring. Ok. I get a 24 hour notice that "most things" should be removed from my dining room, hallway, and closets. I leave work early to move everything to my living room, and hire a housesitter to be there while I am at work, but they never came to fo the floors. I called the flooring company, they said to call the landlord, the landlord says they will reschedule and call.

TWO MONTHS goes by, all my things are still cluttering up my living room, when I get another 24 hour notice that the flooring company is coming. In the last 2 months I have acquired a dining room table and a large hutch. 1) I have no where in the apartment to move them, and 2) I am disabled and cannot move them and 3) the notice said "most things should be removed"

I figure the flooring company will have to lay part of the floor, move the furniture, then lay the other part of the floor. They are a flooring company, they have to have situations like this sometimes. They show up and flat out refuse to deal with any furniture and leave.

My LL says I need to find someone to move/take the furniture somewhere else if I cant move it or have no room for it in the dining room or kitchen. They say it is my responsibility. For reference, thus is a large complex, they have at least 4 able-bodied men working maintenance full time, and I see no reason why they couldnt move the furniture. Also, the apartment across from me is empty and they could put the table and hutch in there, but there simply is no room in my apartment for them, even for "just an afternoon."

Ive considered emailing their corporate owners, but I dont want them to think Im throwing them under the bus and give them a reason to not want to renew my lease.

In the meantime, Im living in a cluttered nightmare which is seriously affecting my mental health.

What do I do?

šŸ  Landlord Issue Anyone know what to do in this situation? Landlord ignoring maintenance requests and messages.

This is in U.S, UTAH.:)

When we moved in during August, the AC wasn’t working, and the house would reach 80–85°F. I contacted our landlord, who initially said he had fired his maintenance worker and couldn’t do anything. After that, he stopped responding to messages from me and another roommate. I also submitted maintenance requests through the app, but they were denied twice.

Around the same time, I noticed what appeared to be mold spreading across the ceiling of a bathroom due to a roof leak. I contacted the landlord and submitted a maintenance request, but it was denied, and my messages were ignored. About a week later, I submitted another request, which was also denied.

We later had a friend who is a firefighter stay in that room, and he expressed concern that the growth could be black mold. We submitted another request emphasizing this concern, but it was denied as well.

I’ve tried repeatedly to address these issues, but our landlord has been unresponsive and has denied every request.Ā What steps can I take to get these issues addressed, and what are my rights as a tenant in Utah?

šŸ  Landlord Issue Mouse problem

US-NJ

I saw a single mouse in my studio apartment, messaged my property manager and caught it. When I put out traps I put out three around my apartment. I have since caught 4 mice (I got 2 in one trap) I have messaged my property manager twice in the last 3 days since I saw the first one, and he finally just responded to me that he is out of the country and is returning tomorrow and will handle it then.

This is unreasonable right?!? It not my problem that he’s out of the country I texted the number I'm supposed to contact for maintenance needs and have been left waiting 4-5 days to get him to send someone out to take care of this??

šŸ”§ Repairs / Maintenance My door was left unlocked

US MO - My apartment management did pest control today.

They gave the required 24 hour notice. I locked my cats up in the bathroom to make sure they wouldn't get out. It's October and one of my cats is black. I'm extra diligent this time of year.

They were at my apartment at 11am. I know this because I had to run home to grab a textbook I'd forgotten and they were inside. I got home around 4pm. My door was unlocked.

I'm not very happy about it. Cursory inspection, nothing was missing. And if anything was going to be stolen, it would be the PS5 and 55" TV in the living room. It's still unacceptable.

How should I address this? I don't want to go in too hot and combative, but I want to make it clear that this can't keep happening. The last time they did pest control, my door was left unlocked as well. And my freezer was hanging wide open. Why would they even need to touch my freezer for pest control? I didn't say anything that time because I was completely swamped with life and just didn't make it in. Phone messages and emails are never returned. I'm busy af now, too, but considering this is the 2nd time in a row, I need to say something.

šŸ  Landlord Issue Landlord wakes up to everything…am I the issue?

So I wanted to move city’s and my cousin was renting out rooms in his home! I was like great! Rent was cheap and he’s super nice! Only issue is…noise…I’m looking for work atm in this new city so I have a LOT of free time and I’m a big gamer. First day I get there he asks for noise to calm down at 10pm so he can sleep for work (he works from home btw) I was like yeah makes sense! Next day around 2pm i decide to jump on a game with my friend, my landlord after an hour asks me ā€œhey I can hear you through the floors do you mind waiting to call after I get off workā€ I was a bit surprised as I wasn’t yelling or anything but it’s his house so I say yeah! So I can only call my mates from 5pm-10pm annoying but fine! Idm playing games by myself or texting them as we play!

A few days later he asked me to put headphones on when doing stuff on my computer as it’s loud and he can hear it, again I was a bit like eh…but it’s fine I can wear my headset.

Today is the big one, I’m watching a show and playing a game and yeah it’s late like 2am but I’m not saying anything and I have my headphones in, I get a message saying ā€œ10pm-8am is quiet time and my chair is creaking and it is waking him upā€ā€¦my chair is creaking under my weight…and is waking him up…I’m not doing anything crazy on my chair I’m just leaning foward sometimes and because of the headphones I can’t hear my chair making noise, it’s got to a point where I’m scared to even go to the toilet past 10pm incase I wake him up as it’s his house and he’s been so kind to me and I really try to be the best I can be like cleaning up after myself after cooking making sure the bathroom is clean, it’s just after 10pm I can’t do…anything…am I being unreasonable for being a bit upset about this?

ā“ Advice Needed Landlord changed my address (twice?), will this affect my ability to vote?

This is in Nebraska

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but for years my address was 123 West 1st Street #2.

A couple of months ago their handyman scraped the #2 off of my mailbox, saying apparently 123 #1 was actually 321 West A Street, so I was just 123 West 1st without the apartment number.

Then they sold the property to another landlord a month ago. I verified my address when he made me switch payment apps and it was showing up as 321 West A #2 and said he said the app just wouldn't allow multiple addresses per property.

Today I got a voter report card mailed to me, in the box that says 123 West 1st with the 321 #2 address on it. What the heck is going on?

ā“ Advice Needed Water Utility Submetering

Our (NJ) landlord is in the process of sub metering the water utility to assign it to each individual unit. The project is not complete yet, and the sub meters are not active, but the landlord is having all new leases and lease renewals agree to taking responsibility for the water in advance because they anticipate the sub meters kicking in in about 6 months. Tenants are hesitant to take responsibility of a utility we have no cost history for, so the landlord gave us a vague estimate of $20.

Does anyone have any advice on things to ask the landlord or city for to prove this? I’m seeing things about written requirements for a documented initial meter reading, local compliance and calibration. To be honest I don’t understand most of it and just trying to understand my rights.

āš–ļø Legal / Eviction Unfair Towing

Hi! I live at a larger apartment complex in an okay area of Philly. Parking has always been an issue with people parking wherever they want / illegally or not moving for months and months on end. There are tow signs posted around the lot that say those parked illegally will be towed and subject to fine.

One morning I saw that my car was located 30 minutes away (per my airtag) and looked out the window to see they were repainting the lines in the parking lot. I went down to the parking lot, and the building manager was actually standing right where my car had been. I asked him if it would've been towed if it was right there, and he told me no. This led me to believe it was stolen before eventually calling the towing company to check if they had it, which they did.

I had received no notice in my email of the striping project. My roommate did receive the email (which was sent at 630pm friday and the project started monday, which is arguably not far enough in advance anyway imo) but the email stated that cars in the areas of work needed to be moved or they would be towed. I did not receive this email, and my roommate didn't see it til later. Say me and my roommate don't speak at all, how would I have known it was happening?

After asking for compensation for the tow fees that totaled up to $250, management told me that because I was technically parked illegally, the tow was justified. My car was parked in a row of other cars, but on the end where there are no longer spaces.

My issue is that they did not notify me of the situation and give me a chance to move my car. My other issue is that no one is ever towed from the lot for parking illegally. Cars sit illegally for days on end sometimes. I was also in that spot because cars get broken into all the time, and I refuse to park somewhere in the dark around the building.

Yes, I understand that I was parked illegally by definition, but the fact that they never tow and only did so once they needed to, and the fact that I was not notified me is extremely frustrating to me.

Building management is not very understanding of my point and hasn't even made any offer or even the slightest bit of compensation like free parking for a month. They fail to respond to emails and when they do it's short and written super poorly. I can't seem to talk to corporate as they said they would talk to my building management who would then talk to me.

Its frustrating me because technically I was in the wrong, but if the building actually towed cars off the log regularly and notified me of the striping project, I would have moved.

Please let me know what you think or what you would do. I want my money back because I'm a fresh college grad and $250 is a lot at this point in my life, but I know that that may not be possible.

This partially isn't even about the money to me at this point, it's that they can get away with managing the building poorly and wronging tenants without facing any consequences.

TLDR
- car towed from apartment bc they were repainting lines
- building manager told me no cars were towed from that spot when i went down to see what was going on
- i was never notified of this happening so had not chance to move my car
- i was technically parked illegally, but they have never towed the cars that park illegally daily or sit on the lot untouched for months taking up valuable spaces
- building management has no sympathy for the situation and does not acknowledge their wrongdoings
- i believe i deserve some sort of compensation but because i think im the only one legally wrong here

Aside from the compensation aspect, there are many many issues with this building and management. If anyone has any advice for actually getting change to happen (more security to prevent car theft, better building upkeep, etc) how can I make that happen? Lots of people have issues with the complex and management, I'm definitely not the only one.

šŸ  Landlord Issue [CA] - My atrocious landlord asked that I throw garbage out at 11pm. I’m thinking I’ll just move back in with my dysfunctional parents and am officially giving it back to her.

• Upvotes

Laughable (not really, irritating actually): so, I got home about 10 minutes ago. Landlord brought me in and suggested she turned the shower on 2-3 times today and it’s running for more than 2 minutes/working and not doing what I saw it doing. She turns it on. She also takes me in to show me that my food bag apparently actually can’t go in the laundry room garbage (I didn’t know that/wouldn’t have known this.) She took me in there and yet again blamed me for the shower not working. She immediately said I don’t know what you did, but you can’t pull or touch the showerhead. The shower actually started doing the same thing again while she was in the middle of complaining, which I pointed out to her. She then pulled the same string she tried to claim I touched and it started running normally. She interestingly still doesn’t acknowledge that she was wrong about the tub diverter, and seems to still think I somehow broke that too even though assuming I ā€œbrokeā€ both makes little sense. She asked me to go throw out the food bag from earlier at what is almost 11pm at night even though she’s complained in the past about me coming home late. I actually did give the attitude back to her this time. I didn’t yell but pointed out it was too late for me to throw it out. She actually did seem to realize this mid sentence after I acknowledged it and said I shouldn’t go out because I could get attacked. I was irritated so I said I’d go anyway, and I did. She said it was so rude, I directly said that accusing me of breaking the shower is similarly rude. She slammed the door. When I came back the lights were off and she had started getting ready for bed herself. She already threatened an illegal eviction like 2 weeks ago, might as well give it back to her. Trying to figure my next living situation out.

She’s stupid so she doesn’t acknowledge that she was wrong about the tub diverter having been the cause of the shower issue. I actually sent this:

ā€œHi,
I do not think it is sensible on my end to trust the opinion of a plumber who initially left with the money they were given without having fully fixed the shower, and had to come back later on. If the string behind the shower was the issue instead of the tub diverter and lower shower valve that were replaced, it sounds as though he misdiagnosed the cause initially. I additionally have no reason to move the showerhead or touch the string behind the shower. I have been accused of breaking both the tub diverter and the string behind the showerhead by pulling each too hard, which doesn’t make sense.ā€

And ā€œIf there is an issue that needs discussing in person, I am requesting moving forward that it be mentioned before 9pm. Thank you.ā€

šŸ  Landlord Issue Eviction notice

I have been renting at my apartment for 5 or 6 years. The first 4 or 5 years, I have always been on time with my rent. Last year I fell on hard times, and became late with my payments. I became three months in debt because I didn't have a job. However, my landlord and I came to an agreement and I was able to pay off the majority of my rent because I got a new job. It wasn't until two months ago when I started paying my rent on time again fully because I had to take out so many loans to pay my car repairs. I was doing a lot of door dashing while trying to find a job. However last month I decided to quit my job, but I had a new job lined up, I was just waiting to get hired and then paid. I was late with this month's rent, but instead of my landlord allowing me to pay late, I was sent an eviction notice. I emailed them stating that I was leaving and gave them 30 days notice last month because I'm getting paid less for this new job. Granted I didn't say I was going to be late as I was waiting on my new job status. Is this weird that I'm getting an eviction notice or common? I guess I'm in the wrong but is it weird that my landlord didn't reach out to me personally to ask about payment? Just gave me a notice of rent due then eviction. I don't fully know my rights as I live in Florida, but I feel like I'm now screwed and the landlord is being fishy.
