Linguistics/History On the meaning of the word 'manananggal'

Literally, the word means '(a) remover', referring to its ability to split in half. However, historically, does the word actually refer to itself? Or is due to its behaviour as a monster–one that removes organs?

If you were to translate the word to English, would it make more sense to call it 'disemboweler' or even 'eviscerator'?

Is there a difference between the formalities, or do they both ask the same question in any context?
