Discussion Yeah... I'm thankful I bought a Deck before the price hike 💀
The Steam Machine's price is up and if it was okay, I would have bought one.
But this is not okay lol

The other day I flew home from a week-long vacation. On the way there, I used my Steam Deck OLED to play several games, including God of War, and everything worked great. Loved it. This is why I bought a Deck, right?
I also brought my dock, and I played various games with my kids at night before going to bed.
Finally, I got on my flight back, which ended up having no working Wi-Fi (thanks, Southwest). It shouldn't be a problem, that's why I have all these games filling up my storage, right?
Apparently, WRONG.
Out of 10+ games that I tried launching, only 1 worked. The majority of the others got stuck at "downloading content" which makes no sense. Not only do they have no updates available, I'm fully offline with the Wi-Fi disabled. And it doesn't time out either, just keeps spinning there forever. Why not just wait to download whatever this "content" next time I have Internet?
Other games failed in other ways. I've attached photos of some of the ones I tried before I ran out of patience and just shut the thing off.
And I thought the constant rebuilding shaders issue was bad. This was much worse, it actually locked me out of the Deck.
Valve, please fix this. We need to be able to play the games we have offline. Everything else that can be done later or in the background should not be a constant nuisance.
Sorry for the vent, but I needed to get this off my chest.
Update: As I mentioned, I was playing various games all week, and there were no downloads pending for any of them. The only game that started was Scourgebringer, whereas the rest, even games I played recently, refused and got stuck indefinitely with "downloading content". I have flown many times before but never had this issue. It feels like a new bug.

Played all the games from my last post.
Still waiting on deeper discount to pick up Expedition 33, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Elden Ring and Baldur’s Gate 3.
Anyone have favorites from this year’s summer haul?

I'm a gamer mom who spilt her lukewarm coffee all over the top of my deck this morning 🫣 literally just fumbled the mug perfectly onto the deck. Lesson learnt, don't leave deck on the kitchen table. Hoping the rice will absorb the moisture...
Update: found the right screw bit to open it, disconnected battery. Now have it open with fan blowing on it. Husband can take over later when he's home from work. I have to go get work done now that sitter is here, but will update later with good news hopefully.
Update 2: IT WORKS! It seems that I have fool's luck, my deck powered on and is working thus far! Husband took further apart and cleaned a little with iso alcohol. No visible rice dust or moisture. I guess I got it all out when I shook it out after the spill + with the fan on it all day. Hopefully it continues to work.
Two lessons: keep deck out of kitchen and don't use rice on electronics, lol. Your comments were helpful and hilarious. Thank you for the assistance and laughs.

Have had my beloved Steamdeck for three years (well, I had one for two years which was RMA'd, lost in post and new replacement sent, so in fact, my second SD)
Anyway, it was bought as an emulation powerhouse and I certainly achieved that via Emulation Station and the standalone apps. Back then (three years ago) I knew I could hook up to TV but never investigated further as I was sure it would look awful. Haven't played much retro emulation recently as I was playing more and more PC content.
Anyway, I spotted in my YT feed that people were using discarded office PCs for emulation and hooking up to their TVs for a near console experience. Intrigued, I delved deeper and found that I would be looking at around £200 for that. Bummer. Then, I noticed (prob due to YT algorithm) people hooking their decks up to TV and decided to delve further. Could this be the answer? Well, of course, just give it a try. I already had the Jsaux dock from my time transferring roms etc etc when setting up my emulation.
Well, wow, nothing could prepare me for the glory I would behold. The deck looks stunning on my 65" 4k telly! Pics are from several titles via my Switch emulators (yuzu & ryujinx) but also the PC titles (GTA IV, ETS2 and Wreckfest) and also Emulation Station. The images are as good as XBox 360 I would say and the frame rates are really decent too. In display settings I set it as 3840x2160 then just played the games. No further settings required. Paired up my PS5 controller via Bluetooth and laid back couch gaming heaven is reached. Oh, and latency? Didn't notice any in the games I played 😊
Fkin love this handheld glorybox!
TL;DR: So, if, like me, you didn't think the Steamdeck would look good on your 4k 65" TV, think again!

Don't give in to them! can you imagine the profit they're earning from this with all the units they've bought in this image alone?

I currently have more than 700 games in my library and just love to have an opportunity to play any of them anytime, without waiting for the download to finish. Takes around 7 TB to download them all. Still have some spare space for future releases.

For me, it’s Pillars of Eternity.
Since it has zero native controller support, the initial experience was... rough, to say the least. However, I spent a significant amount of time tinkering with the Steam Input layers, setting up radial menus for spells, and fine-tuning the trackpads for mouse emulation.
Once the layout finally clicked, it became surprisingly comfortable. Now, I’m adventuring through Eora from my couch, and it feels great despite the lack of official support.
What’s your "unplayable" game that you spent hours configuring until it became perfect?

Sent my Steam Deck to RMA as the R1 button broke. I guess I will never see it again...

Lots of comments on my mini post yesterday. Some of you wanted even smaller. Some wanted bigger. Some wanted a slider. Some wanted a flipper. Many wanted bigger trackpads. Well…
Mini V3: bigger trackpads
Flip: 6” clamshell with full size trackpads
Slide: 5” Xperia Play style slider - no sticks just trackpads
“Maxi” (by request): ARE MY TRACK PADS STILL TOO SMALL? 15ish inch screen, regular size buttons.
Yes this is getting silly. What’s your pick?

I've seen a lot of discussions on the Steam Machine. To me it seems everyone is missing the point that the steam machine will inevitably lead to other companies getting interested in investing in this form factor. Mini PC/console hybrids are not a prominent force in pre built sphere. They are super niche projects for enthusiasts in the tech field.
This is comparable to the Steam Deck in that the handheld PC market was quite small before the introduction of the deck. It was again a niche enthusiast market. Now Valve has real competition in the ASUS Ally, LENOVO legion, and MSI claw.
I believe the SM will be just as influential in form factor PC market.

Will post an update at our next steam summer sale.

It also came with a Steamdeck, which was cool so I didn’t feel ripped off. I still use the Steamdeck every once in a while but the GOATed charger is used every single day.

I have no idea if this is a weird thing to do but I recently got into a habit of playing at night for a couple hours until I’m knocked out and find myself in the morning cuddling my steam deck.
Am I the only one who does this?

Kids wanted to play at the park (they’re not little, they don’t need constant supervision anymore) so I brought my steam deck. I got some snickers and whispers of “dude brought his switch to the park” from teens who might not have known what it was. Anyone else have good or bad reactions to playing their steam deck in public? I kind of bought it for this so idk how I feel about getting laughed at.

Hey everyone!
I put together 25 Steam Summer Sale deals that all run really well on the Steam Deck. Tested on OLED and LCD with real performance notes, FPS targets and battery life included. I have also made a video with Steam Deck gameplay for all these games!
I couldn't include all the good deals, so if you found some great games at great prices, please share them below!

Hi everyone, as per title: considering the RAM and storage prices, I suggest everybody here to stop using Nvidia services. They are one of the culprits of this AI craze and they are one of the companies that benefit the most from it. GeForce Now is one of the “you will own nothing” services that, in my humble opinion, must be boycotted. While many services aim for the same concept of computers as a service (see google drive) the AI hype is directly killing the gaming market by pre-ordering RAM for pre-ordered GPUs, leaving no hope for a sane market for us customers.

Here's the final version of my Steam Controller 2 concept. I took creative freedom and decided not to base it on the leak; this is basically a screenless Steam Deck with a few tweaks. It's larger and more detailed than all previous iterations, plus four back buttons - that's all you'll get.
Hopefully we'll hear something about the release of the Steam Console and Steam Controller 2 soon, I genuinely think it's a great idea.
