Is anyone actually not switching because of the load times?

I thought it was because they have fever games to offer
and no workshop
and no proper friendlist + chat + voice
and no community tabs to share text, pictures and videos
and no community forum inside the launcher
and no way to personalize a profile
and no community driven groups
and no streaming
and no recording-tool

ok, i'll stop already...

7 years btw since Epic Store launched its launcher, it still lacks basic stuff.

I think it took 3 years to get a “cart” feature. I think the one that kills it for me is i love early access and play a ton of them, but on epic no patch notes, often cant even tell if a games updated or been updated

And it pained them so much to add a cart they are snarking about it today.

They really do want to replace steam without doing any of the effort of being better than steam.

Everyone jokes that valve does nothing and wins, so epic thinks that's how to win, so they just do nothing and wonder why it's not working lol

Valve doesn't do nothing, they just make slow incremental steps frequently based on feedback from the community. Actually listening to your customers and improving your products consistently is what drives loyalty. Those out of touch business ghouls don't understand something you can't quantify on a spreadsheet.

Exactly. "Do nothing" is a meme because there aren't a bunch of flashy STEAM 2.0 WE CHANGED EVERYTHING type of stuff. They actually are consistently doing a lot of stuff, behind the scenes stuff, smaller changes at a time (focused on improving the experience for their customers), and other stuff like new product development, proton, etc, and they put a lot of thought and care into everything, and they do it all very very well.

Epic is too blind to see this and just thinks they can do nothing and somehow become bigger than steam. It's laughable that it's somehow gotten even worse. This whole announcement just reads like an April Fools post or a parody account, in so many ways.

At least there's 6000 entertaining comments/responses on the twitter post lol

Patch notes are really hard to manage. You need... a block of text and... I guess a title and date. It's hard to fit all of that into a performant application these days.

No thats true and if it doesnt load in from my system tray in under .38 seconds im out for good so luckly they have that

When an Epic Store is not so epic after all

"Epic" can have multiple meanings. They're epically bad for how much money has been thrown at the store, so there is that.

u/Darthaerith 8h ago

Its Epic. As in an Epic Fail.

I can still hear the EPIC FAIL voiceover from Attack of the Show on G4

And their ceo cries on twitter all day and thinks steam has an unfair monopoly

That plus AI psychosis rants.

I struggled so much with their UI choices, you'd search for a game in your library, but accidentally I searched in the store, and it had no button to install it, because I was in the store page instead of the page of the library.

Steam is click and install from the store page if you already own it.

Maybe Epic has fixed that since, but can't be bother to try.

Does it even have a cart yet? You used to have to check out one game at a time.

tbf ive gotten so many free games from them... even played like 3 of them! 🤯

They'd rather try and play gotcha than actually invest in the infrastructure to make a better product than steam. Everything they do is a grift.

They’re too busy making real tech with Unreal Engine.

How i see it is,

Epic is a software dev company that also makes and sells some games.

Steam is a store that makes a game like once a decade.

Both companies have put out a similar amount of games in the last decade. Valve also now has multiple hardware projects and just like Epic they also develop and regularly update their own engine, it just isn't publicly available in its current state.

Listen I'm willing to accept the poor quality control as a necessary evil. Like it or not anyone is allowed to upload games to Steam for better or worse. Sure there's alot of shovelware garbage and AI microtransaction shit. But it just isn't practical for them to vet every single game that gets uploaded it takes way too much time.
