Just wrapped up my first watching of Atlantis and I just wanted to say that I absolutely loved the little details that show off the multinational nature of the Atlantis expedition, beyond the flag patches. As a Canadian, I instantly recognized the blue of our $5 bill, which had me DeCaprio pointing at the screen.

Took me probably the first season and a half to realize that McKay says Zed P M while everyone else says Zee P M, though in real life I haven't heard anyone say it "Zed" since high school.

Of course my very favourite was Carter commenting on the way McKay and his sister simultaneously said "Sorry". Not as subtle of a detail though, but one I found quite hilarious.

Did anyone else have any moments like that?

Anyways, that is all. On to SGU (though from what I have heard it's not as good as SG-1 or Atlantis.)

I think he could have been cool to reintroduce to the galaxy and do more than just dope around on Earth.

Ask r/Stargate Why does an off-world gate have Earth's point of origin symbol?

Post image
597 Upvotes

I've seen this happen in several episodes (s1-s3).

I'm willing to concede to it being a production mistake, however in some episodes it seems deliberate, like "New Ground", where the episode literally starts in a close up of Earth's point of origin symbol in a Stargate in another planet.

Hard to argue for production error there.

Sci-Fi Philosophy 1969?

So I was just watching the ep of Stargate SG1 on Pluto TV (free to watch BTW if you want!)

SPOILER ALERT>>>>>>>

So they go back to the year 1969 and get caught by the military in Cheyenne Mountain. To not pollute the timeline when O’Neill (2 ā€œlā€s) says his name is ā€œJames T. Kirkā€

Ok, so being a big SG fan but an even bigger Trek fan, Star Trek came on the air in 1966, and Star Trek exists as a TV show in the Stargate universe. So umm, I guess that guard was not watching one of the only 3 networks that was airing shows in prime time in 1966 - 1969 and didn’t know William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy were household names?

Just saying LOL.

Discussion Season 1 Episode 7 - The Nox (Discussion)

Wondering what the opinions are about this episode?

I like The Nox, they are awesome, though really dislike the way they were introduced.

Specifically SG-1 "dying" in the most stupid unbelievable way just to show off one of their powers. Yes, I know, lots of "stupid unbelievable" stuff happens in Stargate but most of that still kinda works lol.

Stealth just apparently goes out the window... Jack needs to tranqualize Apophis yet he walks into the open, which should actually work but for some miraculous reason Apophis somehow has a one-time-only sixth sense someone is behind him... There's no way you could say he heard a twig snap with the noise of all the gunfire and staff blasting.

Anyway, Carter then decides, you know what guys, this is an excellent time to just expose myself from cover because my commanding officer was shot and she's supposed to be the brains of the operation lol.

Anyway, it's just a rant, better out than in, just curious to see if I'm alone here or if anyone agrees or can soothe my suspension of disbelief...

Any new Stargate has to address SGU

In season 2 left some developing plots i.e the Lucian Alliance attack on earth and the SGC attempt to dial Destiny as to create a supply line. The question is will the new show address these if the intend to keep things canon

Rant I rewatched Watergate (the Russian episode) last night. I feel like parts of that episode Would be incredible confusing to casual viewers who don't just instantly remember who Maybourne is right away.

Also even if you do remember who he is the context where he's appearing in Watergate is so weird and out left field you still might not recognize him. Like he's a in a Russian uniform, in a freezer in a Russian base. It makes no sense for him to be there and Jack doesn't say his name until a few scenes later, so its easy to just not clock its him.

Ask r/Stargate Is the stargate 94 movie a good jumping on point?

So my parents have always been pretty into sci-fi and due to that It meant I absorbed star trek & doctor who and stuff like Eurika, The librarians, Buffy, Hell pretty much anything that used to air on the "SYFY" TV channel in the late 2000s & early-mid 2010s via osmosis but one show they always avoided was stargate, It'd always come on after star trek or Eurika but they'd always change the channel the channel claiming it was just bad if I asked why or their opinion on it and as a kid I just took their word on it, my only real exposure to the franchise up to that point had been through roblox of all things and as you can imagine the fan games weren't very developed beyond the use of the portals.

That being said I recently gave the Stargate movie a shot since it was staring me at the face on Amazon Prime 24/7 and while I thought the movie was pretty solid and liked a lot of it's ideas like how it used ancient aliens and forerunner (for lack of a better term) theory for the humans on that alien world and their strange but familiar culture I wanted to know what fans of stargate thought of it or if it's even a good jumping on point because I don't really know the series orders or how it was received by the fandom.
For all I know this movie is either dearly beloved or a betrayal of everything that came before, I know with star trek and it's many generations of movies & series for example there's often heinous debate and fandom scorn over specific series and movies, deep space nine & enterprise being not well liked for example and the JJ Abrams movies being seen as a copy paste of older films.

In anycase I'd like to know the fandom's opinion on it and where I should go from here as I am interested in branching out to the shows

Fan-Made Will it work that way? Dialing sequence and travelling

Video showing the Gate's dialing sequence and the travel through the gate

Short clip from a free 3D browser game I have been making. Obviously it is supposed to be a fan-made game, not trying to hurt any rights, trademarks etc.

What do you think of the dialing sequence and the travel - obviously different and not so polished, but will it work for now?

Background: I have been working on a 3D browser game engine for some time, and recently I re-purposed it for a new fan project. It will be a single player game with optional co-op mode.

Let me know if you think I can keep this animation!

Conspiracy The probability that one of the Ancients is named Anoia is non-zero. If so, she gets these tiny influxes of faith power every time a spatula gets stuck in a kitchen drawer.

I just needed to get this out of my head, I see a lovely overlap in how faith based power works in both of these universes (that is Discworld and Stargate universes).

Discussion S2: Why does no one else try Sokar's particle accelerator before nor again?

In S2 Sokar uses a particle accelerator to attack the Iris and force Sgc to hand over Apophis.

How come no goauld lords nor other enemies tries this before nor after? It seemed rather effective?

I still can't figure out how the Wraith defeated the Ancients

They must of had some crazy numbers of ships to throw at the Ancients.

Considering the Daedelus was pretty effective on its own against hive ships, you'd think Ancient warships with more firepower and far greater numbers would be able handle the Wraith without too much problem.

Of course for plot point purposes they were defeated. But in all practicality from what we know, they shouldn't have. Their technological advantage should have made them near invincible, especially with ZPMs powering their ships, weapons, and defenses.

Or somehow the Wraith were able to scale to a level where they outnumbered them 1000 to 1 or something.

Jenny Stiven (Via Dial the Gate) confirms #SaveStargate influenced Amazons decision about the upcoming new Stargate series to stay in-canon.

Thumbnail youtube.com
597 Upvotes

Hi all,

Just watched last nights State of the Gate with David, Darren and Jenny Stiven, who works in the industry, and she shared some encouraging information about the campaign's impact.

She stated:

"I know that our campaign had an impact. I know that the campaign guided certain decisions, post-cancellation."

When asked directly whether #SaveStargate contributed to Amazon's mandate that the new Stargate series, now in the hands of Jac Schaeffer, remain in canon with the original TV shows, her answer was simply:

"Yes."

That's pretty significant. It suggests months of campaigning and showing our support for what came before genuinely made a difference. Amazon noticed and has given the hard-line mandate that whatever is to come and whatever Jac chooses to pitch is to be within the TV-universe! Job well done to all! This fanbase is awesome! ā¤ļø

It's something worth remembering going forward. Of course, it's disappointing to say the least that Brad, Joe & Martin aren't involved... But that doesn't mean we should against the new series before we've even seen it, or before anything's green-lit.

We've spent these months, years fighting to bring Stargate back.

Now that there's movement, let's keep that enthusiasm and support alive, give the new team a fair chance, and hopefully, with this news, welcome a new chapter of the universe we all love, and maybe...just maybe.. some of the characters we all love. ā¤ļø

Ill link the video here aswell so you can watch. Around the 42min mark in the video she talks about the campaigns impact, and what I just wrote.
