Discussion Mining in Starfield
Soooo, for context I'm studying mining engineering, and starting my first playthrough of Starfield I just noticed the roadheader used to open the cave entrance and couldn't stop myself from checking if the machine is actually correctly used, so, welcome to my TED talk:
First of all we can see the machine being used is a roadheader with radial or cut picks, which as seen in the last image are used in medium to soft rocks.
I would say that it makes no sense to have the machine alone because that "tail" behind the machine is used to transport the materials that the ramp and big screws in the front grab from the front section, but since it's not extracting any material and just opening a path I can see they just leaving the ruble there for the time being.
So, now we look at the terrain itself and we can see two important things, we are extracting beryllium, a really hard material that shows up in a lot of different rocks, mostly volcanic, but also on this kind of cave, which is made out of limestone, we know that because of the obvious stalactites we see in the cave.
Can our roadheader advance through limestone with those pikes? Short answer: yes, could they cut through the Beryllium? Absolutely not, it would destroy the pikes in no time, but that's approached by making the Beryllium extraction with laser cutters and not the machine itself.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk, I don't really think Bethesda had all this in mind when designing that five minutes section but it just scratched an itch for me, have a great day random internet person.

Discussion Finished my first Starfield Playthrough + some thoughts and screenshots
I am really glad that i played this game, at first i was really skeptical because of all the things i heard online, but since i like Bethesda game and got it for cheap i decided to give it a try and i had a really great time, there was a point in the early game that i struggle to continue and was thinking that maybe the things that was said for this game were correct but after some time i got addicted.
The gunplay the weapon and armor crafting i begun to go to random points of interest in random planets to just enjoy the combat and loot stuff to upgrade my gear,i was scanning planets and moons just because i found it so therapeutic and peaceful.
I didn't bother with outpost building at first but i gave it a shot and it's just click for me, i no longer made a outpost for the sake of harvesting but i made rooms and collected random junk items to put on my outpost to make them more alive. speaking for junk items i had spent a lot of hours collecting rare items or even any items to put on my house making it my own.
Shipbuilding at the beginning seemed so convoluted and frustrating but after making some failed attempts i finally manage to get it, still not really good at it but the problems i had with it were gone.
The character creator was really good, it was a upgrade to other Bethesda games, not only visually but also mechanically with the introduction of background and traits.
I also heard that the quest were really bland and boring but i thought they were really memorable and enjoyable especially the crimson fleet/sysdef, Uc Vanguard, Ryujin, Operation Starseed, Lost and Found and i even liked the main quest a lot personally.
I also really loved to just explore planets and just watch the view and take screenshots, messing with the camera mode and the sliders i ended up taking 272 screenshots, the ones above are some of my favorites.
Overall i ended up loving the game of course there are flaws but i ended up not letting them from stopping me from enjoying the positives, it may sound cheesy but i ended up making experiences that no other game will ever replicate, for example in the end of my playthrough before entering the unity i was looking my outpost to find anything to put on my quantum entanglement as i was searching for loot and gear i stumbled upon the music box from the quest "lost and found" and made a sad and melancholic tune as i was leaving behind my hours worth of outposts and homes.
I ended up as a fan and i can't wait to see the new DLC that they said would make.

Question [FIX] Erick von Price won't leave my ship
I ran into this old bug that gets Erick von Price stuck on home ship after you rescue him. There are lots of similar history posts, but I couldn't find a specific fix so I figured it out myself.
I tried everything and turns out the game still had him registered as a passenger.
Here's the console commands:
SetConsoleScopeQuest 002A567D
EmptyRefAlias Passengers
ShowQuestAliases 002A567D
Check that it now says REF COLL 'Passengers' -> NONE.
That's it. This clears the entire passenger list, not just Erick, so make sure you don't have any active passenger transport missions before doing this.

Discussion Just started playing
So I’ve just started playing starfield because I got it when it was on sale (playing on a PlayStation) and I’m wondering if there’s any tips of what to do and what not to do, also is there an easier way to get into the menus for the weapons and other stuff (like a shortcut), also how on earth am I supposed to get to the alliance HQ if I haven’t ventured out that far (who’s the best to join and who’s the best person to romance as well)?

Question Creations causing Starfield to crash?
I've been having an issue loading Crations to check for any updates. Loading creations crashes Starfield. Is anyone else having this problem or has anyone figured out how to keep it from crashing?

Screenshot Business is Booming.
My Neon Street Rat turned Pirate turned Aurora chemist has a lab on board that I’ve shared before, but I didn’t get a chance to show the vault! I clipped a Lambent window into one of Owltech’s Galbank Vaults. Lighting is not great but my next build will fix that.
Basically my character has given up the violent pirate life (something, let’s not forget, he was basically coerced into by Sysdef) and moved into a much more lucrative life of organized narcotics trafficking, extortion, racketeering, and yes, escorting the constellation nerds safely from one alien-infested planet to another. We’re not going straight. After all - street rat’s gonna street rat. But my Aurora farms are making so much dough that we don’t need to hijack poor innocent transports anymore. My character arc is getting influenced by hanging out with Barrett and Andreja - and a few other crew members. The pirates on the key are such pricks by comparison.
If only I could keep Mickey out of the supply…..maybe my next ship shouldn’t have a nightclub on it.

Speculation Identity of the nameless Starborn Spoiler
We fight a lot of Starborn, particularly in the late game, who don't have unique titles like the Hunter or Emissary. Considering it's demonstrated that our character surviving is such an outlier that neither of them have ever seen us survive(at least until we get to the universe full of our duplicates), I think it's also reasonable to assume it’s incredibly rare for anyone else to put together the artifacts. Are all these other nameless Starborn other Constellation members from other timelines, versions of the Hunter and Emissary who haven't yet adopted their identities?

Discussion Hunter and Enmissary battle
Tried to do Revelations several times. Haven't invested in my shipbuilding skill since that isn't my playstyle. Of course I keep getting shot down. It's frustrating as hell and I can't seem to make it past the space battle at the beginning. Any suggestions?

Discussion More-Sliders v2: Community question, what is currently lacking in the CC for you?
Working on More-Sliders v2
I usually only make Male PCs so I feel the current MS mod does not fully cover what people want for Female PCs
I want to hear what the community feels is lacking in the character creation menu. Let me know what you feel is missing.

Question How does environmental protection work?
Hi, please help me understand how environmental (Thermal, Airborne, Corrosive and Radiation) protection works. As far as I can tell, the more extreme the condition on a planet is, the higher stats I need or the shorter I can stay. The environment will eventually "eat into" my protection and I need to go back inside to regenerate it. Otherwise I take damage and get debuffs. What I don't understand is:
- How much protection do I need? How do I know what number is required for a planet? Obviously I need more thermal protection on Venus than on Mars, but how much more? How do I even know my suit is adequate?
- How do I know how much I have left? I get that the warning sound gets faster as I run out but is there a more precise (ideally visual) indicator like my O2 meter?
- Likewise, how do I know when it's fully recharged after going inside?
- Do my gear's protection stats just add up? Does it matter if one of my gear has low or zero protection? Can I for example go to a high radiation planet and rely only on my suit if my helmet has zero radiation protection?
- Do stats matter for my crew? Or can I just give them whatever gear I think looks good to wear?

Question Admiral Balewa’s Transcripts
Has anyone located all of these slates? Are they in specific locations or random incursion spawns?
I have a #8 so I assume there are at least that many.

Look in Captain Breckenridge's office at the portraits of the past Captains. The first one is Mark Hamil.
Not Hamilton. grrr!
