Legends Comics Just finished these two. Spoiler

And I LOVED them.

I managed to get the first book for 35ish on an auction, wasn't so lucky with the second. That one I paid ~100 for, but it was all well worth it.

I originally wasn't a big fan of the Dark Empire trilogy, but I also wasn't much into Star Wars as much at the time (the wounds of the sequel trilogy have finally healed for me), but I later tried the audio dramas and LOVED the first, and enjoyed the other two, Dark Empire II moreso after reading Tales of the Jedi, now that I see the lore and backstory that was followed up in it.

What I feel like Tom Veitch did best was bringing a more fantasy and mythological feel to Star Wars, and Kevin J. Anderson was a great fit to play in the setting he started. Another thing that didn't sit right with me the first time around with Dark Empire was the art, not because of Cam Kennedy's work (he did Rogue Trooper for 2000AD, I know his pencil work is good), but the coloring just didn't work out for me. The coloring here is more normal, so it was way easier for me to see what was going on.

The story of Tales of the Jedi is just so good start to finish, I felt so bad for how Ulic Qel-Droma and Nomi Sunrider both had such tragic lives and ends, and how the Dark Side ruined what could have been a great future for them. Really adds to Luke overcoming the Dark Side and Palpatine in Dark Empire, showing how powerful he and Leia are.

I plan to play Knights of the Old Republic soon, got the OG Xbox version and gonna play it on my One; I read that it was influenced by these stories and references them. What should I watch out for to find them, and what else do you recommend I read first, besides the KOTOR comics themselves?

General Discussion Luke’s Jedi Order being so different from the old one was mostly due to tricky real world circumstances, right? Spoiler

Those early stories of Luke training new Jedi were written long before the prequels ever came out. Like the Dark Apprentice trilogy. Meaning that the meta reason for why Luke knew so little about the Jedi Order on the whole and needed to start from scratch was because the writers themselves needed to start from scratch since Lucas hadn’t divulged everything yet on how certain things work. Lucas himself hadn’t seemed to work it all out yet either until he started work on TPM. Is that about right?

Legends Comics In the classic Marvel comics set right after ESB, Luke still has his lightsaber. He uses it in multiple issues. The comic refuses to elaborate further. 😎

The Dark Side Elite, also known as the Dark Side Warriors and unofficially as the Emperor's Dark Jedi, was a cadre of seven Dark Jedi established by Emperor Palpatine during his resurrection in several clone bodies. The elite group was hand selected by Palpatine to lead Operation Shadow Hand in the Dark Empire's quest to retake the galaxy. It was led by Sedriss QL composed of initial members Vill Goir, Krdys Mordi, Kvag Gthull, Baddon Fass, Zasm Katth, and Kam Solusar. Palpatine made sure that the group always contained seven warriors, and if one of their number was lost, he made sure to immediately appoint replacements. When a Dark Side Adept was selected into the brotherhood, they went through an initiation of sorts in which the adept was empowered with the dark side of the Force and imbued with the will of the Emperor by Palpatine himself. As the war accelerated, the Dark Side Elite began to take a more personal role in the war and were tasked with hunting down Luke Skywalker to prevent his interference in the Emperor's plans.

Legends Novels I AM CONSIDERING ORDERING A CUSTOM BINDING. HELP PLEASE!

For the record. Im looking for ordering / chapter placement critiques. And or if I forgot anything valuable chronologically. - and if I got the cloak of deception around plagueis successfully

Obviously as you know this would be a one and done thing - and I wouldn't have the opportunity to pay another $600 to commission this custom binding again. Before I do this. I need to enlist help from the community to determine if this is the optimal story set. I left out maul lockdown and shadow hunter due to their overall narrative unimportance (they are side stories)- but am not against including select chapters of them - or cutting chapters from cloak of deception. I am on the fence about including restraint since it doesn't add the Maul as a character other then smoothing the mother talzin stuff (but since I am building a book only way to consume Star Wars - I won't wind up interacting with the animated show and therefore dont need it.

What I really need help with is chapter precision with overlapping stories.

Rogue Squadron (1998) — Coronet City during the Galactic Civil War, as depicted in the mission “Defection at Corellia.”
The Essential Atlas (2009) — Conceptual illustration of Coronet City's skyline and waterfront.
Star Wars: The Old Republic (2011) — Coronet City during the Old Republic era.
Star Wars: X-Wing: Rogue Leader #1 (2005) — Coronet City shortly after the Battle of Endor.

Legends Novels I've read Death Troopers by Joe Schreiber Spoiler

I’ll admit I had my doubts about this novel at first. I’m not exactly the biggest fan of the zombie genre, so I went in expecting nothing more than your classic reanimated corpses and that was it. What a macabre surprise I was in for by the time I finished it.

The author did an incredible job with this one; the narrative moves at a brisk pace, describing the siege unleashed by a mysterious virus aboard a prison barge. The horror escalates slowly, eventually spiraling into a bloody odyssey of corpses and formless monstrosities, something that left me both fascinated and grinning from ear to ear. Perhaps it’s because the franchise is so often pigeonholed these days as "for kids", but I was genuinely struck by how visceral and creative the author could be (my favorite scene involves a mountain made of various severed limbs). He truly maximized the potential of the Star Wars universe to craft terrifying and conceptually inventive zombies. (I’ll definitely be checking out the prequel, Red Harvest, at some point.) On that same note, I have to praise the decision to set a big part of the story aboard a Star Destroyer. Its colossal scale creates a perfect, labyrinthine environment, where the constant feeling of being watched becomes almost oppressive. As a fan of ships, I loved every second spent exploring its corridors.

Of course, the story also relies heavily on its characters. Dr. Zahara Cody was an engaging lead, delightfully sharp, with a pragmatic streak that held up well amidst the surrounding chaos (I’d love to see more stories featuring doctors as protagonists). Jareth Sartoris was a fantastic antagonist for the most part, utterly despicable and a total jerk; I found myself wanting to see him fall just as much as I wanted to keep following his journey. My only gripe with him is his ending, which feels a bit out of character. The Longo brothers work well, too; I don´t find them particularly remarkable, but it´s nice to have the perspective of prisoners who are easy to empathize with, culminating in some truly emotional moments.

As for Han and Chewie... their presence didn't bother me much. I’d be lying if I said they didn't diffuse the tension in certain moments, but at the same time, I can't but fall over by the charisma they bring to every scene and interaction with the protagonists; Han, in particular, has a unique "horror hero" vibe that reminded me of Ash Williams. In that regard, I also have to give credit to Sean Kenin, the audiobook narrator; it is thanks to him that those sections feel natural within the rest of the story, not to mention the distinct voice he gives each character.

My only reservation is that the beginning is a bit slow. I liked some moments, but as I said, I wasn't really interested in following the brothers story. Oh, and I certainly don't see much reason for this to take place a year before Ep IV. I feel like Han would be the first to brag about this...

In conclusion, it is a grotesquely beautiful and enjoyable horror novel. Please, disney, let the authors get this creative in more horror stories!

Artwork Map of the Western Reaches

Post image

The photo is not the best, my apologies, took me three tries to eventually even get that. Also posted on my alt accidentally just now, apologies if you saw that 😭

This is the map of the Western Reaches that I drew for my Star Wars fanfictiom story. It's a copy of Modi's map in the Essential Guide to Warfare, depicting the advances of the New Republic between 4-6ABY. I soloed in on the Western Reaches and the advances of First Fleet, under Admirals Firmus Nantz.

The red depicts advances in 4ABY, yellow is 5ABY and the blue is 6ABY.

I went through every map I could and added as many planets as possible, trying to leave out as many as possible. Kaliska and Validusia were estimated locations, and Tamen is the only planet of my own making. Handwriting isn't neat but would you believe me if I told you this was an improvement on how it usually is

Any opinions, advice or questions are welcomed!!
