Promotion - Business/Service/Offer An Update on the Stamford Event Calendar

TLDR: ffctevents.us has traffic, it's still and will always be free, and if you want to suggest any features let me know.

Hello People.

Just want to give a small update to https://ffctevents.us/ - The site I created 2 months back to display events in the the Fairfield County (mostly for Stamford).

Early this week I got a notification that the site had reached 10k views, and to be honest I didn't expect people to use it (as I mostly created it for myself). However, since a lot of you are using/have used the website, I want to say thank you by spending a bit more time refining the site so that it's easier to use.

I'd still like to keep this site ad free and free to use, so I won't spent crazy hours making it the next Facebook (I'm not smart enough to do so either). It's always just a small personal project, but as an engineer I also like feedbacks from users if the project's actually being used. Especially if you are a Stamford resident, if you see anything useful that can be added in the site please let me know.

Here's an image of what I received early this week:

Politics Simmons kids no longer in SPS

Post image
25 Upvotes

I recently learned that the rumors of last spring were true. Mayor Caroline Simmons pulled her kids out of Stamford Public Schools and enrolled them in Greenwich Country Day, a school that costs over $50k a year.

What does this say when our own Mayor pulls her kids out of our public schools? They were in a magnet school (Rogers) that pulled partially from Shippan, one of Stamford’s wealthiest neighborhoods. Was the problem that poor kids also attended?

The last several Mayors had their kids in Stamford Public Schools, and not just for a short stint either. David Martin, Mike Pavia, and Dan Malloy all had their kids in SPS for years. I can’t help but think that having her one son at SPS for K & 1 was nothing more than a political move to guarantee her re-election in 2025. It also doesn’t send the best message to parents wondering whether they should put their kids in SPS or not.

What do you think?

White dude haircut

I have very straight and fine hair, mostly get haircuts with scissor work. Due to my white dude hair, any mistake shows tenfold. Best barber or salon in Stamford to go to?

Does anyone know good teachers that are reasonably priced in the Stamford area? Acoustic guitar-looking for myself, not a child if that makes any difference. Thanks

Girls-Only Game Night Club?

Hey everyone!

I'm 25F and I've been wanting to meet more women in Stamford, so I thought it would be fun to start a weekly girls-only game night!

The idea is to get a group of women together for different kinds of games so that we can build bonds in a fun way.

I'd like to provide an opportunity to have fun, meet new people, and hopefully make some genuine friendships along the way.

I know making friends as an adult can feel awkward, so I figured games would be a great way to break the ice without the pressure of it all.

You don't have to be super outgoing or know anyone beforehand. This is perfect if you're coming solo cuz same sis lol.

I know there are tons of game night groups in Stamford. But I think it's possible to have the same idea but with your own twist. So this is my way of doing so.

I'm thinking that we get this started right away so that nothing fizzles out. Maybe next Tuesday or Thursday at Hop & Vine around 6:30? We can just play a couple rounds of Uno to get settled and then progress every week from there with new games.

Would anyone be down? 💕

Art Galleries for Local / Aspiring Artists?

Hey all

My fiancee is an aspiring artist and would love to have her art displayed publically in some way. Are there any galleries in Stamford or the surrounding area that let local up-and-comers display their art?

Question/Recommendations Stamford Noise Ordinances??

Genuine question: what time do quiet hours begin in Stamford? For weeks now, loud construction vehicles have rumbled around a private parking lot next door between the hours of 8p-10p. As an already sleep deprived toddler parent, I need to know if this is legal? And if not, who do I contact?

Woodworking Classes at Studio Andreas

Just looking for feedback, especially if you went with the intention of working on a specific project. I am aiming to sign up at the end of the month... Were the instructors helpful? Were you allowed to access the studio outside of class times? Did you feel you were adequately and safely trained in using the tools? TYIA!

Train station Traffic Light

Was it only me, or did the traffic light signal at Dock St and Station Pl remain red all last weekend? I had to turn right onto Atlantic Ave and then complete a U-turn. Has anyone else noticed this?

Anyone know what’s going on?

We were picking up food from KFC and cop cars like crazy drive by (like 7 cars), then line the road. I think they are using their drone, too. More kept coming at we left.
