But I'll admit the NG+ run of SM2 I did it after being already burned out. Swinging around blindly looking for spider-drones really took the wind from under my webwings. Let alone the fact that SM2 had A LOT of bugs, mostly graphical, while the first two games were way better optimized, and I can only recall one spawn bug on SM1 and two visual glitched on SMMM. Meanwhile every other cutscene had a bug, a loading error or a visual glitch.
That's most of the negatives out of the way first.
Overal the whole series gets an 8.5/10. Fantastic games, and if it wasn't for the technical issues, the last one would be the best, but it was way too distracting.
Gameplaywise each improved on the last one, making SM1 the "worst" by default.
In the realm of collectibles and completion SM2 is the worst and that's not even close due to 2 key elements: Objectives that don't show in the map (like the spider-bots), having to physically uncover the map by swining across it and needing to unlock fast travel. ESPECIALY the last thing. I'd have been ok if that was in the first game since it was just manhattan, let alone the fact that swinging was much more fun when it was new and innovative, plus the activities were plenty, but adding Astoria and other areas across the many bridges of Manhattan made the map a bit too big; an issue that would have been massively mitigated by making fast travel unlocked by default, or by story progression like the first two games.
The hardest thing I've done in these games however, was completing SM1 in the highest difficulty, it was a level of challenge I welcomed and enjoyed, but I'll admit I wouldn't have tapped into it without an achievement telling me to do so... that's why I didn't do it for the other two games.
Also, two last things against SM2: Symbiote enemies. My god those things were TOO TANKY! And unlike any other enemy in the game, you can't jump-yank-punch-yank-punch with stacked up damage bonuses for being airborn, because they pull themselves back down, and Is wear half the time they don't get stuck to walls when you web them. And secondly, why change the gadget system? The gadget selection wheel was perfectly fine, but in this game you had to press a different key to access them with 1-4, a system that works if you do it for one thing (Special attacks) but not for two since the input was completley diferent. Space, F, Click and Mouse Wheel vs 1 2 3 4. Often I found myself wanting to do the sound granade and accidentally do Special+3 which meant I wasted the symbiote surge or venom explosion. Either make one modifier with 8 inputs, or 2 modifiers with the same 4 inputs.... or better yet, 1 modifier with 4 inputs and a gadget wheel.
Anyways, enough rambling, awesome games, wonderful experience, now to wait for the fourth game.
