Movies BND: Questions about Peter's situation Spoiler

  1. How does Peter afford rent, utilities, and his computer systems?

At the end of No Way Home (NWH), everyone in the MCU forgot Peter Parker’s identity. This also seems to have affected his Stark-made Spider-Man suit, particularly its biometric security, forcing Peter to abandon it and create a new suit, complete with new web-shooters and an AI assistant.

But this raises a practical question: How does Peter make money to support himself?

He still needs to pay rent, electricity, water, internet bills, and the costs of maintaining his computer systems and Spider-Man equipment. However, if his identity was completely erased, wouldn't that also mean losing access to official records and identification documents, such as his birth certificate and government-issued IDs?

Without those documents, how would Peter legally obtain employment? Does he somehow earn money under the table through the underground economy? And if that's the case, is his landlord also renting out the attic to him off the books?

  1. Does Peter even need to wear a mask anymore?

Since Peter's identity was erased from everyone's memories, he is essentially a stranger to the world. Even if someone were to unmask him, they wouldn't recognize him as Peter Parker.

For example, at the end of BND, doctors had to cut open his suit to operate on him. They saw his face, they saw nothing more than an unidentified blond man.

So, what purpose does maintaining a secret identity serve if nobody remembers who Peter Parker is in the first place?

How I would include Karen in Vision Quest

When I heard that this new Marvel series would include the Marvel AIs, I was hoping to see Karen since she was honestly fun in Homecoming, and since Jarvis was back, I figured that another destroyed Ai could easily do so too.

Alas, she didn’t appear while EDITH did. And I guess that makes sense since Karen was built and manipulated entirely for and by Peter respectively while EDITH did make a big scene publicly thanks to Mysterio, but I’d still like to see her.

So, personally? I’d put her like a last stage Alzheimer’s patient in the background, maybe not even recognized by the other characters. Left quiet, unmoving on a wheelchair while watching a small spider on a corner made for or by herself somehow.

And (spoilers for Ep 2): I guess her appearance there might not make sense or it could even defeat the purpose of JARVIS sacrificing himself, but I still think it’d be pretty cool to see her like that.

Like how Junior from The Sopranos was left at the end of the series.

Plus, her VA is Vision’s actor’s wife irl, so that’d be cool too to see them both get their human avatars in Marvel.

Meta Eltingville Club Parody of If This Be My Destiny

My latest fandom, Eltingville Club a creator owned comic book series of a club of “friends” who are toxic fans of pop culture. Best place to check it out is the dubs form The One Nerd on YouTube (plus you can also find on YouTube the not picked up adult swim pilot) or the collection digitally on Amazon but all of the comics are in the Nerds Inferno Trade.

The pen-ultimate story has Bill The leader and worse of the group being knocked underneath some shelves, he then musters up the strength to get out of it by channeling the hate he feels for his “friends” in a clear parody of the classic scene from If This Be My Destiny.

Discussion Can, could or should Norman Osborn exist in the MCU?

Thumbnail

This has a question lingering in my mind since NWH and FNSM came out and I feel like pitching the idea of if he is MCU material. Now in NWH, the Raimi Osborn establishes that he doesn't exist in this world nor does his company. But what if MCU Norman wasn't a major public figure like Tony Stark or Justin Hammer? What if Norman was working under someone else, a smart man who believes that he should be the one in charge? You could make it that he was working for Damage Control and seeing what happened to them, he steps up to the plate.

Soon he begins to find ways to take over to be the one in charge and in his ego he rebrands Damage Control into Oscorp Industries. Then when Peter returns to earth after the upcoming Avengers films, he discovers Oscorp and investigates this version of Norman. Finding him completely different from the one he met and fought. However this Norman never becomes The Goblin but instead he has The Hobgoblin as a personal assassin to take out any competition as well as to manufacture public attacks that damages the city so that Oscorp can step in to fix things, building public trust for his company. This could create a similar dynamic from Superman's fight against Lex Luthor. A "I know what you're doing" kind of scenario where Norman denies any accusations.

But that's just me, what do you all think?

Movies Spider-Man films still criminally underuse women from his mythology.

Post image
377 Upvotes

When I say this, I don't mean that they failed their love interests. I mean that the Spider-Man mythology has a lot of women and for one reason or another they just don't have the chance to be shown. There's no real role for women in Spider-Man films other than the guardian, which is just Aunt May, or the love interest.

It took until Into the Spider-Verse to have a Spider-Woman in Gwen Stacy and a female villain in Olivia Octavius taking the stage, and it took Brand New Day to finally incorporate Jean DeWolff who has a different role from the usual suspects. Hell even the Venom movies finally did something meaningful with Mrs. Chen being a human ally to Venom, but she's an OC created for those movies.

My burning take here is that Sony have failed a lot of them even worse than Disney and Fox failing their Marvel heroine, villainess and supporting characters by just not giving them chances and when they do they end up with some of the most bizarre creative choices like the entirety of Madame Web, or trying to rewrite Silk to pander to male TV viewers before ultimately canning the series.

I can see them be friends, while as heroes, a lot of quips, teamwork, and epic fights with the antagonists, but as friendship, I think it work out really well and very cute as well.

Comics This issue was actually really good

People should stop complaining if they haven't read the issue. I love seeing Peter snap at people like the old days and him actually getting angry. I love seeing Mary Jane come by just to hug Peter to see if he is alright. I did not however like seeing Norman Osborn but I loved seeing a sort of conflict of morals with him and Peter. I am excited to see Peter beat the shit out of Cormac.

I hate Ric tho he's annoying as hell

Discussion The problem with Modern Spider-Man isn't that it is the worst thing in the world. But they aren't enjoyable. They don't lead anywhere. And overhall, they never have actually good for the character ideas or concepts.

Post image
134 Upvotes

So there has been controversy about the most recent run (Shocking I know), and while I can agree that the story isn't bad by itself... man its shit to read.

I will be blunt and honest here, modern Spider-Man isn't the worst thing in the world. There are good stories or moments there. But the problem is... its pointless. Because no matter if its shit or good, it will go nowhere, nothing will happen. And IF it happens, its just for the worse for Peter.

Besides, I'l be honest here, modern story lines are just terrible concepts. Concepts that you would think were forgoten back in 80s. But no, Spidey is having stories that are straight out of an parody.

And on top of that, Peter isn't having an over spaning arc, hell he never gets any Arcs or development. The stories will pretend he has... only for the next one to throw it out the window or the Arc when you look deeper really doesn't changing shit in Peter.

But above all, know why reading modern Spider-Man is such misery? Because its a torture p@rn. Yeah, straight up. This stories aren't made for people to develop, they are made to give him the most possible pain and miserythe book can have just for in the end for Peter to escape it.

Then it repeats, it repeats, it repeats, without Peter showing any actual evolution, to the point no sane person would find this possible.

Peter will have lucky or happy moments here and there, but they feel like breathing points in his ever shit life of torture. They don't feel like victories or earned stops, they are the writers giving those minor moments so they can say "See? Peter doesn't only suffer", its manipulation from the writers so you don't realise how realisticaly Peter is fucked.

Because from Superior to now, it has been less than 2 YEARS. Yeah, the comics time passing is so shit that from Superior to now it has been less than 2 fucking Years. Somehow.

So not only does Peter's life revolve only around suffering and pain, it also is one where he has had no time to breath in between story lines. Where he goes from one suffering to the next without any light of rest.

And above all... Peter is a terrible protagonist nowadays. Because he is just stringed and pulled along for whatever bullshit the plot brings. The reason they took Peter's backbone or mean side isn't because it wouldn't work nowadays, is so they can drag him around while he smiles during the pain so we think he is realisticaly fine.

Peter in the old days had moments the story dragged him to the plot. But a lot of times, he was proactive. Many times, the plot slowed or fastened acording to what HE did or wanted, so it many times felt like an fight between the story and Peter to see who had control of it.

And another thing that is crucial for us to understand, is that an bad premise can be well done. A lot of stories nowadays are just from bad to meh ideas that are done terribly or well done. Seriously, lets be honest here, what modern story of Spider-Man that has had an cool or creative idea, not execution but the IDEA, an idea that you would wanna see from the description alone be it well done or not?

So what we have are stories that are the most generic and 101 hero story ideas or absolutely terrible ideas that are well executed. But here is the thing, an shit idea well executed can be good here and there... but modern Spider-Man is full of them.

And above all, the single rule for any Peter Parker story line: Suffer. All his stories are about his suffering, his pain, not him as a character. Sure, you can say they explore Peter as a character, but they always do the same shit and achieve the same conclusions.

They don't enchance the character. They never give us an struggle that realistically would work with the character.

And I won't say old Spider-Man was perfect, it wasn't. There were a lot of shit stories or pointless ones too. But in the overhall, those stories could be forgoten or where just an minority. Nowadays? There are so many that you can't forget them, you are forced to remember them even when you don't want to.

So while I won't blame anyone for licking modern stories, I will always say that they aren't good for the character. They are fast food, sure is appetising for the moment but it will leave you wanting an actually good meal.

So go ahead, enjoy it. But don't let it be enough for you, ask for better stories, actualy good ideas that can be done great and are fun. Ideas that won't cause an war every time an issue comes out. And if you want better stories, don't be afraid to read older stuff, see why so many fans hate the state of the modern Spider-Man

So, what do you think? And please, lets not insult anyone that enjoys or doesn't enjoy this stories. We can hate on the stories, but never take that on real people, its not worth it and its just an shit move. Everyone is aloud to enjoy what they want, so don't go attacking anyone please.

Question Can someone explain why the hell Peter still keeps being Spider-Man a secret from Aunt May?

Seriously, can someone in this subreddit help me out here? Why in the hell does Peter still refuse to tell May he’s Spider-Man?
If the excuse is to keep her safe, that makes absolutely no fucking sense. She’s still Peter Parker’s aunt regardless of whether she knows his secret. If someone figures out he’s Spider-Man and decides to target his family, her being completely in the dark isn’t going to protect her. If anything, it just leaves her completely unprepared.
And that’s not even getting into how much damage the secrecy does to their relationship. May has no idea why Peter constantly disappears, flakes out, or lets her down. So when people like this Ric guy (seriously, when the fuck did he come into the picture?) start trying to turn May against Peter, she doesn’t even have the context to understand his behavior, much less defend him.
And that’s before we even get into all this Cormac shit.
The most frustrating part is that May already knew Peter was Spider-Man once upon a time, and their relationship was arguably better for it.
So what exactly is the justification for keeping her in the dark again? Because at this point, it seems like the secrecy is doing more harm than good.

Between getting up after multiple hard, several story falls or crashing through or against anything around him while fighting Doc Ock, I remember being blown away as an 11 year old with how fast Spider-Man could bounce back.

Then I gradually learned about some of the stuff he overcame in the comics and I realized this was only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Spider-Man's durability.

How MCU Spider-Man could do repeat villains.

Now while I personally believe that every spider-man should have their own version of Gobin goblin (I don’t care that he fought Tobey’s) I do agree about other repeat villains, but how about this.

Use repeat villains as montages/opening scenes.

Basically the movie would start off(not necessarily at the very start but you get it) with Tom fighting a dude with lightning powers(electro) while dodging thunder bolts in slow motion, or it starts with him in a sewer fighting a giant lizard while on the phone or something maybe he even calls him “Connor” implying they’ve met/fought before.

My main reason for this is simply because I’m a bit “action hungry” and I like watching spider-man fight his villains(if it’s a cool fight) and this could be a way of seeing MCU versions of past villains without taking away opportunities for ones we haven’t seen yet.

Obviously we still have to see how things play out in Beyond, but I love that Miles clearly has enough self respect that he's not just going to welcome her back into his circle so easily. I'm excited to see how they tackle that as we wrap up the trilogy.
