Long-Form Content I got my first comment!

Post image
76 Upvotes

I know, I know, it's nothing in the grand scheme and it isn't some, "The algo miraculously discovered me and now I have a video with 50k views!"

But I'm 16 videos deep and truly it means everything to me and that single comment fully refilled my tank for it all. Not that I was running on fumes or anything I know I've barely scratched the surface of what's required out here in these trenches.

For my channel I only started it as a means of telling stories I already found super interesting but didn't find well served so it wasn't messing with me too much to have low viewership and what not, thankfully.

That said, I've been trying to create a lot of content and really grinding it trying to slowly work on my setup and the technical stuff and that's definitely been a bit draining (especially editing, god I hate editing) but this has refreshed me for sure

Glad that first comment wasn't some shitty troll comment hahaha. A little kindness definitely goes a longgggg way.

I feel like early on thus far I started out assuming I'm not crazy, I love these stories, others have to feel the same in this huge world of YouTube viewers but it starts making you wonder if you're an idiot after a bit with no comments at all or engagement LOL

Anyways, I lurk through you guys' posts all the time and I'm just psyched to be a part of it all

Keep your chin up y'all

Long-Form Content Week 4 Update - The Numbers Are In! Might be my last post here :-(

Post image
529 Upvotes

Hey guys! Right the numbers are in and this week blew last week’s away thanks largely to the video I posted about yesterday! So that’s £16,376 ($21,568) in 28 days!

You can see revenue was fairly stable from May to August up until the change in process! I’ve already beaten Septembers revenue total for the whole month, a day or so off the October mid-point!

3.1M views and a round 250,000 watch hours is the cherry on the cake for week 4!

I’ve had a few people again say that I should not really be posting this here so it may very well be my last post! Again, I’m posting these updates as motivation that it CAN happen! But if it’s upsetting people, might be time to move on! As always, any questions about my process or if there are analytics you’d like to see, just drop a replay!

Long-Form Content I rethought my approach to gaming content and started over. Early results: 3 new videos beat 13 old ones combined.

• Upvotes

So I've tried youtube several times throughout the years, always ended up giving up for one reason or another. About a year ago I tried again with a gaming channel, it wasn't working but instead of giving up this time, i took a step back and rethought out my entire approach. I knew i wanted to do variety gaming still, but I also knew i had to change up the whole package. I stepped back, took time to practice some editing and work with photoshop like programs to get better at making thumbnails which was a real weak point previously.

Once I felt like I had a plan, I private all my old videos and started fresh. The channel is still small, only 43 subs at the moment, but I've posted 3 long form videos and I'm seeing the difference the new approach has made.

Numbers so far:

-Old channel: 13 videos, 635 views total. Lifetime. My best one ever got 176.

-New: 3 videos, 1,172 views. 555, 334, and 283 (that one’s only a day old).

-Every new video has beaten my old best.

-First one is 30 min long and people are watching about 45% of it on average.

(including analytics screenshot for the first video since people always ask for some)

Currently sitting at 100 hours watch time and 5 subs gained since the reboot, there's still things I can do better for sure, CTR is still weaker than i'd like it sitting at about a 2% CTR so there is still room for improvement there. But overall I think stepping back and actually rethinking my approach is going to make for a healthier channel long term than what i was doing before which is just throwing stuff at the wall and hoping something sticks.

Has anyone else done a full reset on a channel? Granted mine wasn't "established" yet, but still. Did you private all your old vids or leave them up? Curious if anyone regretted doing it?

Long-Form Content Guys. I think my 7th long form video might be the one!

It's absolutely going wild right now! Approximately 95 views an hour?

For context: first image is my list of long form videos, arranged by newest to oldest.

Notice that the second latest video has 2.4k views. But that happened after a month and a week.

The new video I uploaded almost 2 days ago is now sitting at 900 views IN JUST THE SPAN OF 44 HOURS!

I know it's too early to celebrate, but damn this is all blowing my mind right now!

Long-Form Content Transitioning from short to long form content

I need help transitioning my channel from shorts to long form videos. Long term i aspire to do long form videos since I talk a lot and want to express my opinions about stuff I’m passionate about but I’m struggling to transition.

My channel thrives off shorts content and all of my top videos are shorts. Currently I have a spiderman short that’s on 600k+ views and my other best performing shorts are viral football meme clips that I made or FC/FIFA shorts.

One of my recent videos about fifa 17 being 10 years old has 11 views and 78 impressions. Half of my views is myself watching it on other platforms like laptop, TV and phone to test the audio. I think that’s great considering my average videos do 0-3 views and barely any impressions.

Any tips?

Long-Form Content Looking For Thumbnail Feedback

Post image
• Upvotes

Hey guys, this is the first time I made a long form video, but I feel like I'm doing something wrong with the thumbnail. I just started the channel, posted around 10 shorts and wanted to try out long form. The channel is about gaming (Clash Royale) and the video is about surviving midladder with low-level cards

Should I change the elements, the angle, the background, or the text?

Any feedback is welcome. Thanks in advance!

Long-Form Content Audience Retention

Post image
• Upvotes

Three episodes into a long form series recreating famous tracks in my studio.

I’m trying to bump the retention higher than just my teaser of the finish product at the start.

I’ve started implementing clone shots - next episode I plan to make a clone act like a green screen with me narrating over myself.

How do these stats look?

Long-Form Content Paranoid about the watch hour requirements doubling in February

• Upvotes

I’ve been doing YouTube since I was 13 but it was mostly just me messing around. I’ve been taking it seriously since last year and I’m at 2,300 watch hours for the year. I recently found out that YouTube is doubling the watch hour requirements to get monetized. I get that I should be doing YouTube for fun but I can’t help but feel paranoid that I’ll never reach the requirements. 8k seems impossible

Hey everyone, I first posted on here almost 3 months ago about me starting my channel, and it’s good to see That I now have 81 subscribers and have almost 90k viewers across all content (livestreams, shorts and longform videos) I make Skyrim content and my videos are definitely improving in quality, and my thumbnails which I make using Microsoft PowerPoint, screenshotting and photo editing with ingame footage and post recording shots!

I also make my own music for my videos as I’m also a musician!

If you’re into Skyrim content check out my channel TheGamingGuitarist99 and all other socials, there are links on my Reddit bio! 😊🎮

Mixed Content Algorithm Analysis

Hello everyone!

I'm a small creator, and like all small creators, I've found it difficult to grow on various social media! In fact, since I study computer programming, I'm working on a project!

An application that I will launch only if the community is really interested in using it!

The application will have the objective of simplifying as much as possible the growth on social networks like YouTube, by analyzing the algorithm and thus advising the user on all the moves to be made to achieve high retention with an 80% probability and therefore grow more easily by increasing click-through and display rates.

The app is designed for all social networks that use their algorithm, the app will have intelligent tools available that will also physically control the video, thus giving you recommendations based on how your video is edited and giving you the ability to edit the video differently directly in the app!

He will literally be a digital manager who will do everything possible to grow your channel!

I'll soon be creating a website with all the details where you can click a button to increase the number of people waiting. That's the only way I'll know if the app is really interesting or not!

We are talking about a service that is difficult to obtain, and that this application can perform autonomously, helping you to increase the chances that a single video or a single photo reaches more people.

I hope you like the idea!

You will have the link to the site in the comments as soon as it is available!

Thank you for reading the message.

Idk if I am being dramatic but I got 100 views on my very first video on YouTube as a new channel and only 2 likes with 2 hours of watch time in total (vid is 19mins long). Is this normal? Am I overreacting?

Long-Form Content Struggling to get 4k watch hours - Any Advice?

Thumbnail

We run a comedy podcast on YouTube, and we’ve met the subscriber requirement for monetization but are still short on the 4,000 public watch hours. We’re currently at about 208 hours over the past 12 months, so we know the gap, but we’re not sure what’s the best lever to pull.

For podcast-style channels, did long-form or Shorts get you to 4,000 hours faster?
What worked for getting watch time from non-subscribers, like search, suggested videos, or playlists?

Long-Form Content Dad/Overworked

Hey all!
I’m not exactly sure where this needs to go, so Im going to drop it here and see where it takes me.
I am a graphic designer by trade and have worked creatively for 20+ years. After a health crisis and some change of heart I decided to go into a Project Management role at which I am successful and enjoy since it’s still managing creative projects.
I’ve had a YouTube channel since forever (2007 if I remember correctly). I have roughly 30 videos. Over the years I have pushed and got a few moving but the problem I am having is time. I have a wife 3 kids and when it comes to making time for things it’s either sacrifice sleep (which I already do not get enough of) or time with family ( i.w. Friday nights and weekends).
I’m genuinely curious about those who are in similar situations on how they make time to craft, record, edit and post regular content. I think about batching, but even with that I fall behind because I do everything myself. I don’t use AI for anything. I’m not trying to make things hard for myself but the only real time I have to even think clearly is my 1 hr commute to and from work.
Any thoughts about how I could carve enough time out to make the content i want?
BTW I also cover graphic design and project management in my videos as well, so it’s not about having enough content, it’s just getting that dedicated time to make it happen.
TIA!
