Shit, when I (brit) worked in a Canadian jeans shop and and older American gentleman came in and loudly asked if we sold suspenders i was a little taken aback. I asked if they were for his wife and he looked very offended and said, "No for me of course".

I needed to go for a sit down after that. That's when I learnt he meant braces.

Yes but not all brits are cockneys. So when you said “Brits, don’t get me started….” it only applies to cockneys, not Brits. Prob more than just cockneys tbf but that area largely.
