Depends on where in the US you are. It's a big place. Some say trash some garbage. Some say soda and some say pop. There's quite a few of these funny little things that for some reason became more popular depending on region.
I’ve lived in multiple parts of the US, served in the Marines with people from every part of the country, and never in my life heard anyone call it a “waste paper basket”.
Now that I think about it, I say Trash for the "waste paper basket" but here we have to make everything harder so we have another "bin" outside for waste management to collect this I refer to as the "garbage"
So I would say "be right back gonna take the trash out to the garbage can"
there is no "you guys". we have several different regions, each with their own dialect and sub-dialects. in upstate ny, it's soda. in NYC and places in the midwest it's pop. sometimes it's a shopping cart, sometimes it's a buggy, sometimes it's a wagon. it's a big fucking country, bud.
it's absolutely true. you do understand the size of the country right?? you think a jersey, oklahoma, and california accents and dialects are all the same?? 🤦🏻♂️

I don't think I've ever heard someone say waste paper basket. It's just the garbage.
