These posts all have the same issue, they completely don't understand how people lived. They see tv and the brady bunch all flying to hawaii and think everyone did that. I'm 51 and in my childhood eating out was rare, nobody flew anywhere on vacation and people drive the same cars for so long it's how you knew who was coming down the road. The only people I knew who "lived like rock stars" were single males who had no kids and had the boss job at the factory.

I remember my dad in the 1980s, working as a police officer, with my mom working as basically a secretary, barely making ends meet with three kids. I still remember when my dad said that he had to buy used tires for his car because he couldn't afford new ones. It's both funny and embarassing for the posters of such nonsense to actually believe what they are spouting.

That same salary today would be renting and would certainly not support 3 kids. They had it better by a country mile, if they opened a saving account they would “only” get about 7 percent interest. If I open one now I get .3 percent. Used tires? That’s so tragic.

I certainly would if the family wasn’t buying iPhones for everyone and tv subscriptions.

Such a ridiculous argument. My phone is 10 years old iPhone 11 Pro Max. I work in a scientific field and make a reasonable amount of money.

Lol because you have an old iPhone, phones for five people, computers, PlayStations and TV subscriptions aren’t expensive. Great argument 😂

Fuck Boomers. You were born into the single greatest period of prosperity of any generation of any country in the history of the world and spent your entire adult lives pulling up the ladder on everyone who came after you. This revisionist “we are frugal” fantasy is laughable. Your prosperity came from offshoring the great job you enjoyed, killing the great pension you enjoyed and padding your stock portfolio with all the profits you gained from selling out future generations. All while putting the costs of living beyond your means on the national debt that, surprise, you knew you wouldn’t be around to have to pay off.
